Discussed in greater detail in my video today.
We have been robbed.
This generation (Z), and the last one, (Y) and probably before that too.
Think about how weak we are compared to our grandfather's or great-grandfather's generation.
Those men back then literally stormed the beaches of Normandy against automatic machine gun fire. Some of those guys weren't even 18 yet and lied to the government to be able to have the privilege to serve and be torn to bits.
What has happened to men?
Simply put, we no longer have 'male initiation' aka 'rite of passages' anymore. Sure the Jewish faith has a Bar Mitzvah but its not really a rite of passage, just more a glorified birthday party that the parents use to accumulate wealth from other people and give to their man-let. Believe me, I've been to enough of them to know this.
Look at what other cultures did and some still do:
- Vanuatu Land Divers who literally craft towers of weak sticks and bungee jump off of them
- The Hamar who jump over cows
- The ancient Spartans and the "agoge"
- The Amazonian Satere-Mawe tribe with their "fire-ant" glove of torture
- The once proud Boy-Scouts.
I finished that last paragraph with the Boy Scouts for a reason. We actually did have a good Rite of Passage that boys could sign up for. It used to be even more glorious because they had patriotic values and even taught marksmanship. In fact both boys and girls used to learn how to fire a rifle rifles in the US up until the 1960's or so if I recall.
Now guns are "bad". Masculine values at all are "bad". We "have" to let girls into the boy scouts.
Elliot Hulse is spot on when he says most men today are still "living in the world of the mother". There is no denying it and how can we blame them. They were never given a proper ceremony or training on how to leave that world and come to the "world of the Father".
We were robbed. We need our Rite of Passages back.
In this video I do discuss the military being potentially the last place to get it but from what I hear even the military has become weak and bows to female pressure. Even the world's "best fighting force" is now lowering its standards to allow women into roles that used to and only should be held by men.
There are some thing we already know how to do but I hope that this topic will stress its importance even further:
- Lift, Lift, Lift.
- Learn a martial art like BJJ, Judo, Systema, Shokuten Karate, Muay Thai, etc
- Then go further and learn how to survive in the wild by taking a survival class or joining a group that teaches it.
- Finally learn how to conquer the world of finance and accumulate wealth.
Most of you are just here to learn to bed more women. I can assure you if you master the above, that will not even be something you need to try to do.

And still guys don't want to read Ride the Tiger, which addresses this.
You young Zoomers got utterly fucked over with individuality and liberalism.
'Masculinity isn't all that hard shit, it's a societal construct maaaaan'.
'I can just buy some sports Jersey's and listen to mumble rap. Yeah I'm maaan!'
Today, the only initiation they care about is being initiated into your local Apple store to buy your way into technology.
They don't give a fuck, because the system is built on consumerism and materialism. Not the strength of men.
What are you going to do about it? Forge your own initiation.
RedGille 5y ago
Damn. So true I wanna cry.
I am from a middle-eastern democracy (guess which one) and we are required to do military service. Do you think we grow up to become men?
Think again. The culture has become so weak in my country, that the army has only a minor influence on young guys. When they get to conscription age, it's already too late.
The previous generations that built this country weren't afraid of malaria, hunger, armed enemies and all the other shit that surrounded them.
This gen? soldiers are on FB all the time, and if their commander is too tough - they just call Mom.
So no, rites of passage are no longer effective - coz the entire culture is weak and feminine.
Men have become SUB culture.
You're on your own, guys.

Those same men, if they knew what 2020 society would be like, would have almost all chosen to be up on that hill in France raining down lead onto the beaches.
once_profane 5y ago
I agree. They would than thrown their weapons down and sided with Germany to prevent the future we currently have.
MilkMoney111 5y ago
The military definitely helped me grow tf up. But like you said, they bend over backwards to promote women and give them a very cushioned position. At least in my experience
WesternPine 5y ago
My rite of passage into malehood was a heroic dose of LSD (400ųg) with some harmaline (Syrian Rue) by myself.
First you die. Then you are reborn. And when you do, every concepts you learn is forgotten (temporary), you feel like you're the product of millions of years of evolution. You feel that every ancestors of your bloodline survived the harsh world. Everything they experienced and did is engraved is every cells of yours.
You feel that raw masculinity within you, not obscured by what society taught you. You feel each nerves in your body. You feel that Cosmic energy flowing through your veins. You feel you are yourself for once and for all. There is nothing else. Except the Universe. Which is also you.
You come to the realization there is masculine energy, and there is feminine energy. You understand how easy it is to emulate masculinity with that knowledge, you feel stronger, you feel more alive, you finally feel like you got it.
You realize you are the Universe experiencing your own singularity. And that hit you really hard.
That 16 hours trip lasted fucking years, and once you try such dosage, you know you're gonna be different at the end.
iwbbty 5y ago
i did something very similar, but with drastically different results.
I came out with crippling anxiety and inability to function properly which lasted around two years. I see my past journals and see how hopeful, fearless, and daring I was before. Although I did learn a lot from the experience, it makes me wonder if I would have been better off without it.
WesternPine 5y ago
Damn my friend, I hope you are doing better now ! Do you mind telling your experience ? Did you test the subtances you used ?
That's a reminder that psychedelics are not a size fits all solution. Hopefully, your wisdom will make people think by themselves rather than going straight to the moon without preparation.

Congrats for getting a masters degree, which one ?
To each his own I guess, I was in a dark place back then you have to understand there is a background and all I told was the conclusion.
My parents divorced when I was 2 (only child), fucked me up, then I was raised by my single mother, 24/7 fighting, shouting, conflicts pretty intense until I was 11. Then I was put in a boarding school with motherfuckers where I was bullied and beaten daily for 4 years straight by older fachos outnumbering me. Came close to say fuck this.
Went to live with my father, got bullied at new school, he got me an half sister, which I hated back then because she took all the attention of my dad, the only person that I loved at a time where the whole world was against me. I succeeded in being such an asshole that my father came to dislike me and put me in a fucking asylum to discard me.
New era started. The doctors concluded I was crazy because my father said so, they gave me some meds for schizophrenia which annihilate emotions and basically make you a zombie. And locked me up with real crazy in that asylum ! (At 15 years old)
I could not believe the doctors were as shit as that. The only guy who was visiting me was some fat good man loving the Lord of The Rings. Probably a volonteer or whatever. He was such nice to me, each time he'd come I would let him talk about LoTR because I could see he was talking with his heart and it was magnificent. It was the only beautiful thing I would see once a week.
Anyway after 4 months of being drugged TV watching with crazy yelling and psychotic people, my mother came to steal me from my new home. FINALLY
New boarding school, no friends, but not bullied at least. Spending my whole life on porn and video games.
Met Mary Jane, new era started, made friends with her friends. Got my first good friends. Got a girlfriend. Life changing events Broke up with her because I preferred loving Jane.
Next year, I met an other girl, which we become in love really hard, "the one" you know. Did thousand things together including LSD.
Two years later she breaks up with me.
New era started.
I was so fucking deep in the hole, depressed, hurt as hell, world against me, if it would't be for my mom, I'd be gone by now. I sweared she would not bury me. But still I found more than ten ways to die without pain and cleanly and was constantly thinking aout it.
Got bad new friends, drugs and rave, still depressed, leaving school and working night shift ay shitty jobs for one years. Porn use was up the roof, i've never been that depraved.
Took LSD again, mescaline, shrooms analogue, until I finally broke free from my mentality, which was the thing that fucked everything since I was born. It allowed me to rethink myself. Gave up drugs, porn, fapping, video games. I was reborn the way I wanted it. For once I took full responsibility for my actions instead of blaming the world.
I was a man now in my early twenties. And I proudly say enlightenment, psychedelic enlightenment allowed me to break free. As I said to each his own. This was my starting path.
Peace man
BrownGummyBear 5y ago
You’re stupid if you think one heroic dose over the course of many years is someone “glorifying and chasing the dragon”.
wolverine847 5y ago
Some damn nice words there brother
Zakkaro 5y ago
Have you tried harmaline on its own? If so, how would you describe it?
WesternPine 5y ago
An infusion of 3 grams of Syrian Rue, felt relatively calm, neutral emotions (no euphoria no anxiety), a mild meditative state.
It was the kind of high 90% of people would say they feel nothing.
Klother 5y ago
I'm planning on doing something similar to this someday. My only problem is I have a really low tolerance for psychoactive substances, and I fear having a really bad trip and going crazy for good. Is that possible?
Valkuil 5y ago
Depends on state of mind. If just amplifies existing feelings. If you feel little bad (stress from work, girl whatever) it won't be the best ever. Youll survive. Chances are very small you have psychotic episode however, chance is there, definitely if youve been close to such a thing or have it running in the family
Stay safe, first time don't do too much
WesternPine 5y ago
My advice to you : be patient, confident about what you're doing (the 6S) and work your way. Don't try from scratch a marathon !
What I did not say in my comment was that I had more than fifty experiences with various psychedelics components in diverse settings, having experienced both great and awful bad trip, I knew what to expect and I kind of knew I was going to be torn away really bad. And most importantly, you've got to know for SURE what you will be ingesting. People overdosed on nBome, Bromo Dragonfly (40hours trip) thinking it was LSD on the blotter...
StraightGangstaHack 5y ago
If you're not feeling confident, don't do it.
Going in with "maybe it'll make me go crazy for good?" as a mindset will make for the worst experience of your life. Pointless and existentially awful.
Go in with a high comfort level and confidence, or don't go.

Seven grams of powerful mushrooms here. I can still hear the command from the higher entities every now and then telling me to just go forward. It’s such a simple concept but has such great meaning. That trip felt like several days went by in six hours.
WesternPine 5y ago
My man, that time dilation is such powerful. What was your experience like ? What changes did you make after tripping ?
smfc 5y ago
It’s really indescribable. I thought I was peaking at one point but I realized only one hour had passed and that I was in for a ride.
Since then I have embraced selfishness more, stopped hanging out as much with male friends that don’t share the same goals or promote my achievements, started focusing more on my accomplishments and forward movement in my career. Also ended up finding a cute 7/10 gf that I love to death and have focused more on making her happy too.
I think I have accomplished more in the six months after that trip than any other time in my life.
sniper1905 5y ago
I would love to join some type of survival group out in the wilderness for the experience and the raw, animalistic pleasure since I’ve been pretty sheltered throughout my life. I’d feel more grounded in my capability as well as being more virtuous. However are things like this even possible? I always thought that the only way you’d do this is by drinking piss with Bear Grylls.

Op why do a lot of people recommend learning martial arts? I honestly dont see the point of it when I carry a firearm everywhere I go.
once_profane 5y ago
There are times to kill and times to fight. You can’t use your gun on some asshole unless he’s threatening to kill you.
circlingdispair 5y ago
While I'm not necessarily disagreeing, is that the only reason? Getting into street fights is a good way to end up with manslaughter charges. I've seen way too many videos of drunk morons fight and one ends up twitching on the ground after being slammed. I don't see the point of fighting drunk morons trying to amog you. Now if someone is trying to mug me or something along those lines, the gun is coming out.
once_profane 5y ago
I get it... just make sure the laws in your state are cool. In California it’s ridiculous for example
tyrantgrey 5y ago
I witnessed a rite of passage for an 11 year old. It was a nice gang initiation ritual. And he had to beat me up. I was 13 at the time.
Needless to say he couldn’t and 20 of his friends, may have been 12 i was trying to not die, kicked the shit out of me.
Anyway, that kid’s confidence after the fact was through the roof. He had a sense of belonging that I still don’t have and honestly, even though he was really rude and just an asshole, it set him up for life.
Bringing kids into the fold, becoming part of the community and then humanity as a whole, that is what these rites of passage should be.
[deleted]
prst8 5y ago
Sorry I disagree, I'm glad some of these "rites" are no longer with us. Who the fuck wants to go to war willingly. Sending 18 year olds to war was a mistake. Owning a gun does not make you a man. Boy scouts was predominantly for wimps.
The male rite of passage is something deeper within.

What do you think would be a good rite of passage for todays boys?
70percentoff 5y ago
Anything you want to do that you can muster the will power to achieve. No one is going to prescribe a rite of passage for you, you have to find that path and make it what it will be to you.
For me at my late age it was a 100 mike kayak race. The race for canceled because of Covid. Rather than bitch about it and slack off my training I’m still going to do the race route, on my own. No external obstacle will prevent me from my goal. On the other side of this 8 month training journey and race event I have become another man; mentally emboldened and physically healed with strenuous physical activity after years of office works. I’ll be setting out on the race course 3rd week of June.
albino_red_head 5y ago
Hunting! Being able to track, hunt, and take down living creatures is surely a rite of passage. If you live in or spend time in rural America, you quickly realize it’s a club of men with a special ability. If you don’t do it or participate and kill at least once, you’re branded a lesser man.
when_its_too_late 5y ago
For me it was being kicked out of home, working 2 years night shifts at a factory making supplements...it was the worst job ever but my last check before I left I clocked 141 hours in 2 weeks. I will never go back but damn that was tough.
Ihatemoi 5y ago
Yes, it is the surest and easiest way to manhood I believe. I was out of my house at 17. I was still living with my aunt, and my parents basically doing everything for me even if I was away, but being by yourself in a new city and sorting everything out yourself, is the fastest way to becoming a man nowadays.
when_its_too_late 5y ago
I wont lie I am back with my parents right now, because I learned my lesson that life is hard and that I should have tried harder in college instead of flunking out. I am with them just to save on rent though. I own both my cars, do xyz on the contract of living with them and pay a small amount of rent (about 400$ a month) and my rule is they don't bother me. Sure, its a compromise, but this has allowed me to save a house down payment in relatively record time. It's also an excuse to fuck my bitches at their place and then give them the slip after and they cant find me.
once_profane 5y ago
I’ve been thinking about it. I think the best thing would be some type of two or three week summer camp. Boys and adult males only. The counselors being ex military or bodybuilders or professional survivalists etc.
Definitely teaching boys all the skills including athletics, bodyweight fitness, Wilderness survival and yes even having a very successful financier come and talk to the boys about saving money and investing early.
Just brainstorming here but this would be something that a lot of parents would sign their kids up for I would imagine
StraightGangstaHack 5y ago
There is usually a journey, involving genuine risk, and real reward.
Every society did this differently. Some face it together, with brotherhood, under the guidance of elders and experts (groups of boys learning to survive in the wild; physical or martial competition, of increasing intensity).
Others emphasize an individual experience of extremity (take a dangerous hallucinogen, or simply stay awake for days, or otherwise put yourself under extreme physical and metaphysical duress, survive alone for weeks).
Many don't have a single ritual, but rather develop many ways to challenge yourself. Challenge is the key: it should be difficult. Preferably dangerous. And relevant. Valuable.
Ihatemoi 5y ago
It is an excellent idea. It has to also have some way of adding the value of responsibility to the mix, as it is extremelly necessary when making the trancision into a man.
If something like that were to exist, that also would require kids to challenge themselves or others, and compete, conquer and win, would certainly complete seal the deal for me. It is sad that something like this does not exist nowadays.
I have encountered 14 yo kids that act like children, and guys my age (28) acting as if they were 15, it is just wasteful human capacity tbh. Both cases are the resulf of a lack of bad male parenting, lack of assigning responsibilities and no obstacles to encounter as everything is made my adults. It is extremelly pervasive specially in my country, (and many guys from the capital cities in Latin America) that live with their parents until well into their 30s, as it is not a stigma to do so here.

Korea and taiwan also. I think it breaks down ones sense of entitlement and teaches you to be part of a team and the importance of service to others.
wolverine847 5y ago
I believe that serving shouldn't be compulsary but there should be something like a small 3 month or 6 month period
sayedhimself 5y ago
One of the easiest thing you can do to become a better man is to take up martial arts. The amount of mental toughness, discipline, confidence, willpower and athleticism you build will take you further than just weight lifiting alone, any guy who does a serious combat sport will say the same.

Looking up my father (Croatia), their rite was obligatory military service. 18yo, snatched from your family and put along side of your countrymen, under strong authority.
drunkphilosopher420 5y ago
After being a vegan hippie in college and dropping out, I have been working as a Landscape laborer for tha past year. Its grueling sometimes, and a ton of fun sometimes. I work with a close knit group of mexican men who all come from the same home town. I am not mexican. We have beers together at the shop after work every day, and the culture in the company is incredible. I have recently been promoted to foreman, and it feels like a pretty damn good replacement for a rite of passage. I have learned an incredible amount about manhood and life from this experience. I have a path to continue upwards in this company, and I am most of the way towards my savings for a truck of my own to work for myself. Manual labor in a company that's worth it might be a decent stand in for a culture-wide rite of passage.
once_profane 5y ago
This is an excellent example. Yes the guys who do our garden work and landscape for mere pennies on the dollar are often times more men than the richest of the man in the west that they work for.
drunkphilosopher420 5y ago
My mom went back to school to get a degree so she could become a medical assistant. After a few years she hadn't broken $15/hr. After one year and working up to foreman, I'm at $16/hr and its only gonna go further up, with 8-10 hours of overtime per week. It's sad how this kind of job is so looked down on in our society. The comraderie between the men cannot be replaced.
thefilthyhermit 5y ago
That's the one thing that I miss the most about the military after I got out. That comaraderie was always strongest after the worst or hardest or dirtiest job given to us too.
Luisd858 5y ago
My brother is a diesel mechanic and I can tell there is a camaraderie between him and the workers at the shop.

I can't lift due to quarantine now. Anyway, I am doing push ups, pull ups and sit ups like in the military. I wish to learn Muay Thai. I really wish to swim in the nearby river everyday but my friends don't know swimming and its boring to go alone.
once_profane 5y ago
Just go swim in the river you don’t need friends for that. Once you learn to enjoy things on your own you will experience true freedom. As for the lifting you are lifting already and keep up the good work.
167167167abc 5y ago
You're right and I do know this deep inside and I was like fuck it, I am gonna do my shit without them but something keeps saying, let it be next day. I also have the same feeling whenever I feel like traveling alone.
once_profane 5y ago
When I turn 30 I started going out to the bars by myself and wouldn’t you know it I met a lot more people including a lot more women. Trust me man just go out by yourself
167167167abc 5y ago
Thanks man, I am sure gonna try it out tomorrow itself.
symere_woods2 5y ago
Negative, DO NOT go swimming in a river Alone. That’s a really bad idea, unless you want to drown
167167167abc 5y ago

It’s one step but I believe we can go further
Locko_O 5y ago
It's the most important and fundemental, at least in my opinion. Chances are that other stuff / rites falls in to place much more naturally if you quit porn for good.
Dick-Wraith 5y ago
Trying that. It's hard to do. If you started early the reward paths are there in the brain.
once_profane 5y ago
I actually did a post ans video on this just a few days ago
I_Love_Every_Woman 5y ago
I try so hard but I can't. I may sound like a weak ass mofo but it's fucking hard dude.
Locko_O 5y ago
No you don't, I know how fucking hard it can be. Part of the problem is that most people vastly underestimate the damage porn deals aswell as it's addictive nature. Studies show that it can release the same amounts of dopamine as hard drugs like cocaine. But the cocaine is always tangled to a hassle, it costs money, is illegal and you have to go places and meet shady people. None of this applies to high speed internet porn - it is always in reach at no more than a mouse click. This makes it the most dangerous drug this generation faces and it's the first generenation.
You REALLY have to put your mind to it to quit, Im sure you can do it!
ShadowKnight324 5y ago
But don't forget that people normalise this type of behaviour. Shit, they even make jokes on how much they do it, for fuck sake some of these people aren't even in high school. I am sad that this is what generation Z And Y has to face.

So just quit porn, but masturbation is fine? Am I understanding this correctly?
Locko_O 5y ago
While still quitting porn Id advise you to also not masturbate. If you're really over it the occasional masturbation once a week or once in 10 days wont hurt you imho. More frequent still is not a good idea in my book, but people differ on this question. But yea the real enemy is porn
acoltismypassport 5y ago
Every ten days, damn. I'd be curious knowing what your sex drive is like, and how many nuts you're good for in one session/over the day. I'm 30 now, and I still have no problem banging three times a day. Up until the age of 27 or so I could go five times without issue.
Not wanking or releasing for 10 days would have me climbing the walls. I tried nofap in my early twenties and would wake up in the night with bazooka style hard-ons, and only jerking it several times would ease up.
I have a feeling the guys who do so well on nofap historically never had strong a libido.
entrep4 5y ago
I don't see how that is a rite of passage. It doesn't help you much or change your life in any significant way.*
*Unless you're an addict in which case yeah you should definitely stop.
0newinged 5y ago
porn is unnatural. would cave men have watched others fuck while they were beating their meat to it? no. not even beta's would sink that low. but when it's porn it's oke? fuck no. it's still beating your meat while watching a guy fuck a girl that you desire, but will never fuck.
entrep4 5y ago
Getting food from supermarkets, driving cars, music, living in concrete buildings. All of these are unnatural. Does it mean you shouldn't do it? No of course not.
It's just so ridiculous this circle jerk around not watching porn these days. It would literally make no difference to my life if I stopped. As it is I watch it only about once every two weeks anyway. You're all making a big deal out of nothing.
secluded-and-deluded 5y ago
For you once every 2weeks is infrequent enough to not have major side effects alot of men watch daily or sometimes twice per day and it's considered normal
DModjo 5y ago
It doesn’t sound like you have an addiction (which is great). However when your brain is addicted to porn it absolutely robs your ability to be in control of your life
entrep4 5y ago
Yeah. My point was that stopping watching porn isn't a rite of passage for most people unless you're addicted to porn.
If stopping porn was our rite of passage then a lot of guys would have no rite of passage because it would mean so little to them.
I know some people are addicted and love to demonise it the same way drug addicts trying to stop demonise their drug of choice. That doesn't mean everyone else has to demonise it too. I believe It's perfectly fine when used in moderation, just like alcohol.
Take the demonising to nofap, trp is not about porn addiction
DModjo 5y ago
I agree mate. It’s fine in moderation if you haven’t developed an addiction. I can have a beer tonight and then not have another alcoholic beverage for another year. No sweat. Wish I could do the same with porn.
But yes this is more because of the consequences of being addicted as opposed to being magic or a rite of passage. It just feels like it is for people battling an addiction.
entrep4 5y ago
Absolutely. It's a shame the others couldn't understand that.
Dense_Cantaloupe 5y ago

I encourage most men in college to join a fraternity with a good reputation and alumni network. The benefits of pledging and initiation (for solid fraternities) are plentiful and the rites of passage involved with joining a brotherhood make you a better man. There’s also numerous benefits to being in an organization of males with limited oversight by the “establishment.” Fraternity advisors and nationals are former fraternity men who understand what it is to be a man and seek to cultivate responsibility, integrity, and perseverance. I also personally believe that having a brotherhood of males is beneficial to one’s mental health.

Second this. Joining my fraternity was probably the best social decision I ever made. Cannot overstate the importance of having a group of men who act as a social safety net.

Social decisions, act as a group. Thats not even "hard work".

I went to a private boy catholic Hugh school and we have something like a rite of passage when we’re in grade ten (16 years old).
We go to some mountains for a week, we’re divided into groups and each group has one camp counselor to guide us.
We could bring our own food we only had plastic bowls and spoons, and a gas stove.
It forced some of us to be leaders of our peers and it actually toughened us up. It’s used as an introductory camp for leadership (compulsory too). The final year leaders (prefects and head boy) are initially chosen through this then we go to another camp.
High schools like mine might be heavy on religion but they take manhood pretty seriously.

My dad says this all the time:
"The reason your generation of men is shit is because yall were never torn away from your momma at 18 to go join the army against your will and be beat to death for the first 6 months by the guys who were there before you, and you were lucky if you served 2 years and went home without seeing combat, unlike my buddy's who were drafted into afganistan and chechnya, one even cut his right index finger off just not to go."
- Just a soviet dad who served from 1985 to 1987.
stimpe 5y ago
On your point about the Boy Scouts not teaching young men how to shoot rifles; my troop went to the local police firing range and we all got to shoot rifles and 12/24 Guage shotguns. I was 12 at the time. This was in 2000 if I remember correctly.

the modern rite of passage is being a cuck, soyboy mindless consumer.
MarbleWheels 5y ago
Most of you are just here to learn to bed more women. I can assure you if you master the above, that will not even be something you need to try to do.
THIS. THIS embodies the "red pill taken in the right way".
To add my 2 cents: find a circle of successful men you can learn from. Your mind will be blown by the progress you'll make in any field of life.
YeOldeDingusKhan 5y ago
The military is a right of passage if done correctly. Even without a war going on, you learn about discipline, camaraderie, and embracing the elements. I was fortunate to have served in combat after having a bad childhood. Although both taught me lessons, one broke me down and the other built me up.
That said, not everyone wants to go the military route. Challenging yourself with goals and seeing them through is a critical element of personal growth. This can be academically, professionally, or personally. Whatever it is you set out to achieve, obstacles are a certainty. How you learn to navigate the rough water is what sets you apart.
Chasing tail or notches isn’t the endgame. Self-actualization and fulfillment should be the true prize. All of the spoils that come with victory are meaningless if you’re not happy with yourself, and while bettering yourself isn’t the same as wrestling a bear or doing a peyote trip, the experience is what you make of it.
when_its_too_late 5y ago
This. My father was forced into the soviet army at 18 for 2 years. Luckily didn't get drafted into the afgan war at the time. Still got beaten to shit and taught how to be tough. I am NOTHING close to that. Hell even when im 50 ill be worse than him at 20 when he left the army as a seargent.
Luisd858 5y ago
Well said. Also I would like to try a bit of peyote haha.
Woujo 5y ago
Rites of passage are required for an important reason:
You don't grow up just by getting older. You grow up because something forces you to grow up. There are 45 year old man with the intelligence, toughness, and emotional maturity of a 15 year old because nothing and nobody ever made them grow up.
Because our society has no mandatory rites of passage anymore, you need to create your own. You need to do something that scares the shit out of you, shatters your internal map, and makes you rebuild it from scratch. It is hard to do in our modern society because we are incentivized to stay within a clear routine and firm boundaries of action and behavior.
IAmTheOneWhoSlaps 5y ago
Getting dumped in a bad way is definitely a thing that forces you to grow up or die.
silentdeadly5 5y ago
Something to add is this is also important in the friends you choose. Don’t surround yourself with yes men. Surround yourself with men who will tear you down and force you to better yourself the same way these rites of passages will. In fact, do the rites together if you’re all looking to be better men.
iwbbty 5y ago
But not too much to the point it becomes traumatic. I had an extreme hardship few years ago. The anxiety and horror took years to recover from, and although some aspects of me are stronger, I wouldn’t say it was without damage.

I’m trying to figure out a time and place for me to literally go live in the woods for about a week with no food
Ill_mumble_that 5y ago
That's not that hard unless you do no research ahead of time, but also retarded if you do no research ahead of time.
Also pointless.
The modern world isnt a forest. A rite of passage like that doesn't prove that you can make it in life.
A bigger challenge would be to visit a city you've never been to before. No money, no place to stay. But you'll be there for 1 week.
No car, if its a big city bring a bike with a good lock.
Learn to make it or break it on your own.
zav25 5y ago
Shees now that would be a great modern-day rites of passage for young men.
1 new city. no money. no friends. no family. you gonna take care of business or break?
WhatRemainsAfter 5y ago
Damn, that last part is on my to do list.
It would test a man, to live without money or place ti stay for a week in a new city.
Thanks for solid advice man.

The Hero's Journey.
Mine is chasing young broads!
I stumbled into a relationship with a woman half my age, and I am totally hooked on younger women. In fact, over 3 women, I have monopolized 18 years of women in their 20's! (2 years younger, 10 years younger, then 20 years younger).
I lift regularly. Posting a pic would be DYEL but in meat space it's tremendously evident that I'm in way better shape than most guys half my age, and I was good looking before that.
I've been out in the wild, playing my hand drums (think complex Middle Eastern rhythms, not hippy bullshit). I have absolutely gotten fuck me eyes.
I can't be situated better. Great apartment, great location, very secure remote career. I'm the windshield, not the bug, this time.
There's a 12 pack of Corona in the fridge and the game Pandemic on my coffee table. If I followed the Good Looking Loser's advice and asked one girl a day to head back to my place for Coronas & Pandemic, I'd have a soft harem by the end of the summer.
But I've never Crossed the Threshold of actually asking women out. We read news reports of "PUA's" randomly hitting on women, while I've gotten the greenest of green lights and did nothing.
once_profane 5y ago
Wait so you’re not asking women out? Why man
noNooodleArms 5y ago
I hate to be "that guy" banging on about feminism, but I was raised by a crazy Italian NYC feminist junkie, in the 70's, in Cheyenne, WY. I was her only son, since she had a hysterectomy hours after i was born. To say I was programmed by a feminist is putting it mildly.
My value as a man, my self worth, was always tied to my utility to whatever woman was in my life. They were literally the same thing. No daylight between the two, like, at all.
So the idea of pursuing women for strictly (mutual!!!) sexual pleasure goes against that programming. It's a spell that has to break.
I've had women open me plenty of times. Cute ones, too. I need to get past this insanity.
once_profane 5y ago
Spinning plates is optional. I am in an LTR myself. Also I’m half Italian but it was my dad who is the Italian one.
noNooodleArms 5y ago
Disagree, at least for me. I won't break the spell until I have 3-4 plates in the air.
I'm useless to women. I don't have or want or tolerate kids. I have no desire to live with anyone.
I am radically free and will protect that freedom at all costs.
LTRs require compromise, and there is 0 compromise in me these days.
beginner_ 5y ago
I don't disagree with the rite of passage but with your focus on military. Signing up for a war is just plain stupid and not masculine or heroic. It's naive and buying into the "myth of heroism" created by the ones in power so they can stay in power.
Getting yelled at by some stupid fuck that in many ways I can't take seriously just make me a man? On second though you might have a point because it takes a lot of emotional control to suppress not laughing in the guys face all the time.
Luisd858 5y ago
I have been think about joining the military reserve for some time. You learn something new, women like military men, and you get paid. The rite of passage it presents perhaps would be what I need

To be initiated into Sambian manhood every boy must suck an older man’s penis and swallow his semen to absorb his strength.
To be initiated into Spartan warrior society boys entered into pederastic relationships with adult men.
Sure you missed out?

chomponthebit 5y ago
There was no “Golden Age” when everything was better, and initiation, whether by mystery traditions or revealed, rarely comes without heavy costs. Clearly, men who take boys under their wing to impart life hacks are commendable. But there’s also something to be said for a man who carves out his own path like Thoreau or Twain.
Though he’s a fictional character, Gandalf refused to take oaths, make alliances, or commit to any lasting abode in direct opposition to initiation which generally demands all three. Contrast this to the dwarves of Moria who implicitly represent the popular mystery religions of Tolkien’s day as a snare (symbolized by Masonic imagery on the Doors of Durin).
Teaching a boy to hunt or how you built a successful business or what you’ve learned about women is organic, even noble. The whole man’s lodge thing? I’m with Gandalf

Not as gnarly as a glove of fire ants or heaving myself of a wooden precipice; but my right of passage was working through my both my BA and MA in a physical job, full-time, whilst fully committed to my studies. The 60 + hour weeks, the all-nighters, mental and physical exhaustion... all served to forge in me not only an iron-clad work ethic, but it made me so mentally tough and sure in my abilities that I went from boy to man with the space of a few months. I somehow found time to manage lifting and fucking girls through this period too, which many of my friends just found incredible.

I consider choosing to compete in something competitive (martial arts, racing, poker) a means to achieve the same beneficial results as a rite of passage. THOUGH THERE IS NOT ONE SOCIALLY EMBEDDED IN OUR SOCIETY THAT IS UNIVERSAL FOR YOUNG MEN AND THERE SHOULD BE (specifically in the US.) Research has shown that countries that oblige young men to dedicate at least 1 year to the country, gov, or military has shown promising results in men. On the other hand it’s like the US thinks that college/university is the new rite of passage for both genders and it could not be more fucked for most men. At the end of the day college/university is NOT rite of passage for MEN and is only for women and SOME men (only the top 20% women deem valuable) hence the point of a rite of passage overriding women’s poor character judgement. For me certain things like racing, getting my motorcycle license, forming a tribe of men, isolated trips in nature, and creating masculinity content have definitely helped. One red pill lesson I’ve learned is that only men understand the concept of justice.

Can we qualify fencing as a substitute for marshal arts?
Zehinoc 5y ago
So I'm no rp expert, but I'd say in some respects it definitely does apply in some ways. Fencing really doesn't give you the combat skills the marshal arts popular on this sub would. Also really doesn't encourage increasing muscle mass.
On the other hand though every fucking bout is two people fighting to see who's frame is stronger. Beats a hell of a lot of physical and mental discipline into people who take it far enough. Really instills a sense of aggression and momentum, makes you more adaptable and analytical. Also boosts self confidence by a ton since the moment you doubt is the moment you lose.
Look up a list of famous people who fenced, notice the amount of generals that are on there. There's a really good reason for it.
If you're looking for guidance, here's my take. Feel free to disagree. If you're looking for validation, stop. Go do some footwork
JJ_Benzie 5y ago
Nah not looking for validation, just wondering tbh, but yeah I think this is a good take.

Something that’s important to understand about men of the past century is that most were religious and believed in God, Heaven, Hell, etc, too. This increases as you go back in time. Most young soldiers were not afraid of death as they held on to their faith and fought for what they believed in, survival be damned.
In this era, far more people are atheist, do not truly believe in a higher existence and therefore fear death to a greater extent. They aren’t eager at all to lay down their lives. If you want the men of the past to re-appear in society then you need to re-establish true faith in God and the Afterlife as well because that is what present society has been built on.
Lack of the belief of a higher power in our lives will lead to the devastation of society, as we are already seeing.

The most fuckin ridiculous think is gun restrictions I'm 17 and intrested af in guns but turns out my country only let's carry permits go to ex military personnel or ministers like wtf is this and the guys are mf wimps today talkin about pubg and tik tok They are more interested in these things rather than focusing on contact sports, lifting, joining the military. We can't totally blame these guys their parents are too protective and we live in a society where being masculine is actually punished,it's like in fight club Brad Pitt says we are the fuckin weakling generation dependent of comforts and if the hard times come we are fuc*ed
jizzledfreq 5y ago
Masculinity doesn’t need to be narrowly defined by beating each other to a pulp, getting yoked out on weights, or volunteering to be shooting practice for a terrorist.
Should we drink alcohol until we’re black out drunk, roast each other relentlessly, and never have the fortitude to say, “I don’t know”.
Sounds like you’re living in a hyper masculine world where women should be in the kitchen, and men are gay or pussies for being interested in cooking, art, music, etc.
Are you too manly to change a diaper? So manly it’s beneath you?
once_profane 5y ago
Bro I have a son and I change his diapers. This comment is weak.
wolverine847 5y ago
Who said that man,I play the piano and I cook and I'm damn good at it that doesn't make me a pussy, people respect me more when they get to know this, but I'm also not that guy that takes shit from anyone and is weak as a twig, what we are talking about here is the hard truth and it is we are just a generation of weak men and if we have some suggestions on how to make us better what's the harm.
FJackxd 5y ago
Lol and wtf from op's comment made you come with this conclusion? Your statement sounds ridiculously stupid.
Grandazer 5y ago
Statements like this one here (that are especially made by men) are the exact reason why we live in a femcentric, cuckish society.
The chain of thoughts that led you to stating something so blue pilled was drilled into your head by someone else.

The privilege to serve and be torn to bits? Bruh I get what you are saying. But why the fuck would I want to be torn to bits? Guess what, those men that survived war lived in fear and trauma for the rest of their lives. It is a well known fact that people who enlisted did not really understand the stress they were going to be put through. During war time, there was the promess of being war heroes and the young impressionable guys had no idea what they were in for. Men are not weak now. I could list a few reasons why it seems men are weaker now:
-there is just more people in the world, and a percentage gets to be weak.
-nowadays all of us have access to social media and have an opinion we can make public, which includes weak ass men.
-There were weak willed individuals at EVERY point of history, except the weak ones are not studied as they were probably not political figures or leaders.
-nowadays we have a more inclusive world (whether lgbt is a mental illness or not I will not argue here) and since gay men can now be freely gay and express it, it seems as if out of the suden "gays are invading us". Back in the day gay men lived their lives in horrible frustration.
-we are not at times of war, there are still very "manly" individuals on the army and they are incredibly badass, but at times of war basically ALL men had to fight.
Finally, I do not consider myself a "white knight" or a weak simp male feminist or whatever you would want to call me but think of this: Why the fuck would we want our men to be just army dogs that want to be "torn to pieces"? (I supose what you refer to is their bravery) ALSO there is a notion that our grandparents were so badass and shit, dude those guys did not study highschool. Those guys are simpler and I would argue we are more badass now. Think about it, it is a standard that we learn maths, sciences and economy on a level beyond what the old generation could ever think about. The fact that i do not know how to fucking operate a M1 garand does not make me pussy. I know far more topics than good ole grandpa could ever possible think of.
The fact that we are currently not WARRIORS does not make us weak.
