What is scarce is our attention. we exchange it for stimulation and/or distraction. Time is our greatest asset. For we need it for everything we do. However, today we're sacrificing our time for needles pleasures and distractions. Our productivity and focus is declining.

The internet has an endless supply of information and socialization.

The marginal cost: We can get addicted. To social media, scrolling the internet, and video games. Consuming our time, instead of utilizing our time.

The marginal benefit: We get to build bigger and better connections with more people, and learn many things for free.

We are invested in our devices. Almost everything we do is on them. Finances, socializing, and now dating. We can't imagine ourselves without them. Now being apart of a modern man's identity.

Today's generation is in a sunk cost fallacy. We can't seem to let go. Getting more and more attached to our devices as the years go by.

In Today's market the most valuable resource is our attention. That's how the market goes about selling and distributing its information, as well as goods and services.

Propaganda, an advertisement, or a booty call. All just to get your attention.

Modern society has turned its assets into liability's. One must be able to identify an asset from a liability. Really sit down and ask yourself. What benefits you? What doesn't?

You will always have to sacrifice something. Simply put, choose the best option.

Now, when the supply of endless information and stimulation is so high, how does one control their demand for it?

Well, ask yourself, what's going to be the opportunity cost?

Choose wisely.

The video explains Aldous Huxley's vision of the future from his book Brave New World very well.

We are distracted and misinformed, we form reactionary judgements to superficial and superfluous news, our shallow online interactions remove empathy and community contact.

We are too distracted by Netflix, videogames, social media, news media - the internet in general. We are driven by consumerist competition amongst each other and cannot devote the time and attention to reading and informing ourselves properly about politics.

Anti-intellectualism is as bad as irrational and emotional reflexes of social and political issues. The 'raising awareness' efforts do nothing when people do not vote and make a serious effort to elect people and do their research.

Citizens have a duty, to maintain their democratically elected leaders liable. It is as important now as it was in the Roman Empire. Unforunately now, the common populace is distracted and controlled by new forms of media through brainwashing propaganda, carefully curated news feeds, repetitive messaging.

There are scientific studies to make people addicted to apps. Psychology is being used in nefarious ways by corporations. The relationship between the government and corporations is stronger than ever, and it is a power struggle.

We can only sit and watch, as the vast ignorant majority elect and discuss what is right and wrong, what is left and what is right.

I just deleted facebook. I was hesitant for a while because I have so many pictures on it from years ago, then I discovered that you could download them. It's funny how on Facebook when you go to delete your account, it starts as a "deactivation" then after 30 days it gets deleted. The 30 day mark is huge in the addiction world. It's been 4 days since I deactivated, and when I pick up my phone now one of the first things I think about is checking facebook. If I were to log back in (relapse), I have to start the 30 days over again.

Social media makes the process of deleting/deactivating account as annoying as possible and is often buried on layers of non-intuitive settings. They really specialize in the worst possible experience when it comes to something that can hurt their business, including but not limited to things like actions to protect your privacy. This is even called Dark Patterns.

I came to the conclusion that sometimes it's just not even worth the effort - just remove sensitive information and let it rot. What is really important is to take your discipline back and detox from your previous habit of getting on social media on your leisure time. For example, my facebook and instagram are still active but I don't feel any urge to go check them.

I had deactivated Facebook and when I went on to login to it again, I felt a crippling depression walking over me, and when I deactivated again, I feel so much happier.

To be honest, I don’t have any good strategies because I genuinely didn’t care to peer into the lives of my former high school or college friends, which made it easy to just shut it down.

My best advice would be to just treat it is work if that is what you are using it for. Use it for work and if you find yourself scrolling along just to scroll, then consciously recognize it and find some other substitution for your brain. Like a former smoker reaching for a stick of gum when they want a cigarette. Just find a thing to take its place.

Does Reddit really count? I do give it a break every now and then but I do genuinely miss out on a lot of info. I think it’s much better to consult Reddit fir many things before googling.

Caveat: I still love reading tons of books and consider my huge kindle library to be everything I ever wanted from the internet. The books I was led to by trp for example- fucking legendary!

Use it for your benefit. You can only learn so much in a day. Don't fill your brain with useless information, a little bit is OK.

a community I like is nosurf, it's like NoFap but instead shows how to use the internet to its best potential (sort of like porn-free subreddit). Expose yourself only to positive benefitial information that will nourish your mind. Seek knowledge and understanding primarily, the entertainment is secondary.

When using the internet, try to limit the amount of images and information that you see, and instead click carefully, being mindful of where you go, pay attention and think about where each click might take you. ;)

It's interesting the economy in the modern era is based off of attention and that is what females thrive off of. It's become a women's world right before our eyes. 5s can look like 9s with makeup and filters and get all the tingles of attention they could ever want from thirsty men online all in their pocket. Years ago in small towns without internet they had to work for the few guys that were around. Now, they get what they have always wanted without having to commit or be of value. Men are expendable even more so than ever. The same can be said about the opposite side of the fence though, men divulging in porn. It's interesting seeing pornstars build there army of men to give them money on onlyfans. Better get the getting while the gettings good though. Looks fall harder than gravity. I have my popcorn waiting.

I don't understand Snapchat. I especially don't understand people who use it who aren't teenagers. it honestly fulfils zero extra functions that a regular chat app wouldn't.

Facebook has been AIDs for years. I deleted my main account two years ago, but kept messenger around for my university groups. Now that I've graduated, that's also gone. Pure cancer.

Use it for your benefit. I am a firm believer that the fastest way to learn things is to google what you are looking for and adding 'reddit'.

There is a sureddit for everything, and knowledge there is easily digestible. Of course, make no mistake; it is NOT a substitute for actual academic information.
