A lot of people I know classify me a cheapsake for saying things like this (I don't know about the family part, unless your family is full of narcissist dickheads.)
Glad to see people know how to manage finances and everyone isn't saying "money doesn't buy happiness"

I'm really sorry that the author has a shitty family, but I think the article goes a little too far. My family at the very least isn't a net loss on my life, and I don't think that most people would feel that way.

Personal relationships matter to me. I enjoy having relationships with both friends and family where we value, love, and at times self-sacrifice to help each other.
I'm not sure what DOES matter to you. But to me, even if I were to be an emotionless robot seeking to maximize my resources, wealth, and power I would still value my relationships with others (including family) because having those relationships provides me with unique opportunities and support.

This is feel good bullshit that has nothing to do with the article. You are taking a generalization personally and out of context. Control your emotions, man.
"Your Family Doesn’t Matter" means that "being family" does not qualify external influence. He's saying don't pedestalize family members. Grant family members influence for being positive and aligned with your interests, not for simply being family. Them "being family" doesn't matter.
