Let's talk about testosterone. Typically thought of as the male hormone, it's found in both men and women. Estrogen, often though of as the female hormone, is also found in men. The difference is the ratio of each. Men have much more testosterone and much less estrogen than women.
Testosterone is responsible for all our androgenic (male) features: deep voice, muscle mass, the development of male reproductive organs, etc. It also contributes to a number of personality traits, including aggressiveness, confidence, and libido (sex drive).
During puberty, testosterone levels shoot way up. After peaking in our late teens to early twenties, testosterone levels slowly decline over the course of our lives. Testosterone levels can vary greatly from one guy to the next. There are a number of factors that contribute to how much testosterone our bodies produce.
Some of these factors include our diet, how much physical activity we get (and what kind), drugs/medications and, of course, genetics. This is the most important factor. You remember back in high school that one dude who sat on his ass all day eating junk food yet he was big, muscular, and could out-bench half the guys on the football team? His body produced lots of testosterone because it was part of his genetic makeup.
Unfortunately, you can't change your genetics. However, there are a number of things you can do to improve your testosterone levels. I'm going to discuss three different ways that have been proven to increase testosterone and they're all things I've tried myself. There are lifestyle changes, supplements (non-steroidal), and drugs (anabolic steroids). I'm not going to add references to these, but they all have at least a little bit of science to back them up which you should easily be able to find online if you're so inclined (examine.com is a good place to start).
Lifestyle Changes
These are things that you can do to increase testosterone. Some guys may experience a significant increase from these things, but most won't. These things can, if done over time, slightly raise your levels.
-
Lift Heavy – Lifting weights can increase testosterone levels. Heavy compounds lifts are best.
-
Eat Right – What you put in your body determines how your body functions. Make sure to eat a variety of foods, getting plenty of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). If you're not giving your body the building blocks that it needs to create testosterone, your levels will be sub-optimal. You also need to be getting enough fats. Fats are essential for healthy testosterone production.
-
Sleep – If you're sleeping less than 6 or 7 hours a night, bare minimum, you're probably not producing as much testosterone as you could be. Getting proper rest is essential for healthy testosterone production. Shoot for at least 7 or 8 hours a night.
-
Avoid Overtraining – This probably won't apply to many of you, but training too much can decrease testosterone production.
-
Chill Out – Chronic stress can reduce testosterone levels.
- Limit Alcohol Consumption – Drinking too much can reduce testosterone levels.
Supplements
Supplements are things that you take in addition to eating a healthy diet and working out. They're not a replacement and won't work nearly as well if you're not eating right and exercising properly. I've tried tons of supplements and these are the ones that worked for me (verified by blood work) and have the most research to support their use.
-
Vitamin D – Most people don't get enough of this important hormone. It has a number of vital functions in the body, one being a key player in testosterone production. If you are deficient, supplementing with vitamin D can increase testosterone levels.
-
D-Aspartic Acid (DAA) – This is an amino acid that regulates testosterone production. Supplementing with it can temporarily raise testosterone levels. I experienced a significant increase (about 20-25%) in my serum testosterone after taking DAA for two weeks. However, the increase was short lived. When I tested again a couple weeks later, my levels had returned to normal even though I was still taking the supplement.
-
Tongkat Ali – Aka Longjack, this plant is known to have testosterone-boosting and estrogen-reducing properties. I took it for a few months and definitely felt like my testosterone levels had increased. I had more energy, higher libido, and had better workouts. However, my numbers weren't all that impressive. Taking Tongkat Ali only increased my levels by about 10% and they returned to normal shortly after I stopped taking it.
-
Tribulus Terrestris – This is another plant you'll find in just about every testosterone booster on the market. Studies show that it may boost testosterone levels in infertile men, but not in healthy ones. I've tried tribulus several times and while it did give me more energy and boost my libido a little bit, it did nothing for my actual testosterone levels.
-
Zinc – This mineral is known to play a role in testosterone production. It also can reduce estrogen. Supplementing with zinc is unlikely to increase testosterone unless you have a deficiency.
- Ashwagandha – This is yet another plant that has been shown to increase testosterone levels in some people. It's considered an adaptogen, which means it helps the body to normalize. Ashwagandha has been shown to increase testosterone levels in men with low testosterone, but do nothing for men with normal testosterone levels. I've tried it and enjoyed its stress-reducing effects but didn't experience any change in testosterone levels.
These are the best supplements with the most science behind them. Unfortunately, they're unlikely to boost your testosterone levels in any lasting, meaningful way. And, as soon as you stop taking them, your levels will return to where they were. There's really only one way to reliably and significantly increase testosterone levels and I'll discuss that next.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)
Testosterone Replacement Therapy is when you take exogenous testosterone, either through gels or injections. Intramuscular injections are best, as they keep your levels stable and have decades of research to support their safety and effectiveness. For men who prefer not to use needles, testosterone gels are a newer option. They haven't been studied nearly as much, are known to have potential side effects that injections do not, and often result in unstable testosterone levels.
The only way to know if you need TRT is to get blood work. While this can be done by your primary care physician, you should see either a urologist or an endocrinologist who specializes in hormone replacement therapy. Most doctors don't know very much about TRT so it's important to find a provider who does. If you live in or frequently visit the Boston area, I highly recommend Men's Health Boston (MHB). Dr. Morgentaler is a world-renowned TRT expert.
Once you get the results of your blood work, you'll know if you're a good candidate for TRT or not. Different labs use different ways to measure testosterone and different reference ranges, but the most common is nanograms per deciliter (ng/dl). Normal testosterone is usually considered to be anywhere from around 300 ng/dl to 1100 ng/dl, give or take. Men's Health Boston, for example, will usually offer TRT if your level is 350 ng/dl or lower and you're having symptoms of low testosterone.
The symptoms of low testosterone include low sex drive, fatigue, trouble building or maintaining muscle, increased body fat, decreased strength, changes in sleep, and mood changes. After starting TRT, these symptoms will usually be greatly reduced or eliminated.
When I first got tested, my total serum testosterone was right around 300 ng/dl. Although it was technically within the normal range, my level was near the bottom of the reference range. Though I never experienced low sex drive, I did have trouble building and maintaining muscle and was often tired and fatigued. After going on TRT, my energy levels returned to where they were as a teenager and I was able to start building muscle again. Now, with TRT, taking 120 mg of testosterone cypionate a week keeps my levels right around 800-900 ng/dl. My levels are within the normal range, but now closer to the top than the bottom.
From the comments of my “Lift” post, it seems that a lot of guys here don't understand what TRT does. Going on TRT is not the same as “going on steroids.” Yes, testosterone is a steroid. But when you “go on steroids,” you usually start at 500 mg of testosterone a week, blasting your testosterone levels up to between 3,000-5,000 ng/dl. This allows you to build muscle at a (literally) superhuman rate and pack on more mass than you'd be able to otherwise. And guys who “go on steroids” typically take a lot more than just testosterone, adding in several other anabolic compounds.
Going on TRT is not the same as doing a steroid cycle. It's just correcting a deficiency. But if you have low testosterone, TRT can be a game changer. If you experience any of the symptoms of low testosterone, you should get your levels checked and go from there.
Conclusion
Testosterone is the mother of all androgenic hormones. Actually, it's more like the father of all hormones. Low levels can cause a variety of symptoms but, fortunately, can be corrected.
Supplements and lifestyle changes can increase testosterone, but usually not to any meaningful degree. Unless you are deficient in one of the chemicals responsible for testosterone production, supplementing is unlikely to make much of a difference. However, I recommend making lifestyle changes and trying at least a few different supplements before considering TRT, like I did.
But when lifestyle changes and supplements don't do the trick, TRT is the best option for men suffering from low testosterone. It's generally very safe and can have life-changing effects. Low testosterone is actually linked to a number of health problems that TRT can fix.
Whether you think you may have low testosterone or not, it's a good idea to get your levels checked. This is especially true for men in their 30's and beyond. Even if you don't want to go on TRT, it's good to know what your levels are.
Take care and be well!

The most important thing for androgens are as follows: caloric surplus with a high carbohydrate intake in comparison to protein, nutrient status, sun exposure, physical activity. You can get a t level above the upper range with just these.

Constatine7 8y ago
Estrogen is a stress hormone and contributes to almost every type of cancer. Progesterone is the female hormone. You don't want estrogen too low but you certainly don't want it high.
ChadTheWaiter100 8y ago
Glo, can you help me plan a good cycle? I heard that if your not retarded you can mitigate the sides.
[deleted] 8y ago
This is exactly why being on TRT is a pain in the ass. You have to stay on top of your bloods and to keep your shit in check. I have been on TRT for 3 years and I wouldn't recommend it unless your T levels are just in the tank.
Ssjred97 8y ago
If estrogen is above slightly normal range, then is that a problem?
I had a blood test a few months ago, where my testosterone came back above normal range, so the doctor recommended I get it tested again, since he suspected my e2 levels are probably outside normal range as well. (FWIW, I don’t take TRT or steroids)
I suspect he may be right, because I’ve had slight gyno, since puberty, and no matter low I get my bodyfat (lowest tested was 8% a year or two ago), I still retain a little water in my lower belly and hips.
ChadTheWaiter100 8y ago
I’ve had slight gyno since puberty as well. My father certainly has it so I would assume it’s a result of poor genetics. Did you find a solution to this?
Ssjred97 8y ago
Doctor’s gonna have me tested again in two weeks, and if the e2 levels are high, gonna refer me to an endocrinologist.
vandaalen Endorsed Contributor 8y ago
Can confirm. Tanked my e2 with anastrozole on TRT. It's really uncomfortable, although high e2 (I was at 125 pg/ml before), is much much worse.
Also severe headaches and joint pain because your body cannot keep fluid and raging boners 24/7, but decreased penile sensitivity and virtually no ability to orgasm plus if you manage they feel meh.
rayrayray1234 8y ago
yup, i think having your estrogen at a healthy level is far more important. When its around the middle range I feel so cocky, physically and mentally

Fast food has a similar effect. I think there's even a term out there called "Chinese restaurant syndrome" for this. That MSG they use is a killer. If you're in college and staying on campus, do check your food.
https://www.healthline.com/health/chinese-restaurant-syndrome#symptoms
omega_fat 8y ago
"Chinese restaurant syndrome" is McDonalds propaganda (don't eat chinese, buy our shit). MSG so far has not been proven to cause any negative health effects. Maybe because it doesn't. If people started dying from it en masse, maybe someone would have noticed.
OtherworldlyBeing 8y ago
It is McDonalds propaganda, but MSG is still bad for you. It's an excitotoxin which causes physiological stress. Chinese restaurants don't use it though and most even put "no msg" on their menu in large font.
MostSolidFrame 8y ago
The first half this post is good info, but the second half reads like a late-night TV infomercial. Typical of modern Western quick-fix culture, the emphasis on TRT avoids the begged question: why is my testosterone low? What can I do to actually fix the problem, instead of masking it by simply injecting myself with hormones?
For example, how about examining diet and pro-estrogenic foods like dairy, as well as environmental endocrine disruptors? Try drinking less out of plastics, quit using dryer sheets, and eating artificial and processed foods.
Also, the section on Reference ranges is poorly understood by 99% of the population. There is no evidence to suggest that someone with a testosterone level of 300mg/dL will have any more deficit in masculine features compared to another individual with a level of 900mg/dL. The reference range is complied based on statistics that are only meaningful as an aggregate. Not only that, but even any information that the range DOES provide is only a statistical confidence interval; that is to say, it's quite possible that someone with a level of 250mg/dL is physiologically normal, while another man with 400mg/dL is actually deficient.
While testosterone levels vary by genetics, the downstream effects of testosterone and the sensitivity to that hormone are ALSO affected by genetics. So the TL;DR would be that this obsession with a single numerical value of Testosterone level in the blood should be taken with a very large grain of salt. The original post makes huge oversimplifications, if not glaring errors in physiologic and endocrinologic understanding.
Granted, for some men TRT may be the best option. But this post includes none of the downsides/negative effects of Testosterone (for example, it weakens the immune system). Also, it's important to note that TRT will suppress the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal endocrine axis (down regulates GNRH: gonadatropin releasing hormone). Translation? Your balls will shrink and you will stop producing your own endogenous(natural) testosterone. You will produce less sperm and be less fertile, as well.
Yes I am a doctor. Go see one who isn't running a testosterone clinic (because the ones that do are very obviously biased in favor of TRT)
Chaddeus_Rex 8y ago
Sorry to break it to you doctor, but lower test levels do indeed indicate a deficiency in manliness and is associated with negative health outcomes from depression, increased risk of cardiovascular disease and malaise to cancer.
theselfmadealpha 8y ago
Okay "doctor," where do I start...
Pro estrogen foods like dairy? Use less dryer sheets? What? No one is going to raise their testosterone levels by drinking less out of plastic cups. Eating less processed foods is good general advice but it's not going to raise your test levels.
Serum testosterone levels alone don't tell you much. But low levels coupled with the symptoms I listed do. And when you add in free testosterone, estradiol, and a few other numbers, you can get an accurate picture of what's going on.
My post wasn't meant to be the ultimate guide to TRT. Of course there are potential side effects, just like with every other drug.
But to anyone reading this, you absolutely SHOULD go see a doctor at a TRT clinic over your regular doctor. I've heard countless stories of primaries or even endocrinologists putting their patients on ridiculous TRT protocols. See a doctor who specializes in TRT. The decision is ultimately yours to make and you should see a professional who deals with hormone replacement therapy daily.
MostSolidFrame 8y ago
About the folk remedies I mentioned (cause I agree there isn't really any evidence). I'm not saying they are the answer. What I will say is that if it were me, I would be thinking along those lines and asking those questions before I started injecting myself with hormones. For many, TRT will be the answer. But it's important to at least provide a counterpoint
Thanks for taking the time to contribute.

Good post.
Fair enough, I agree testosterone is far safer than Opioids and amps.
Antidepressants are not necessarily benign and I am highly skeptical of their use, ESPECIALLY considering the ridiculously high numbers of people being prescribed those meds. It's suspect and most likely a big problem.
I aspire to be the kind of doc that doesn't prescribe shitty pharms like skittles. Whether I'll be able to accomplish that in the face of such a powerful industry is anyone's guess.

I went porn free a while back and doing no fap now which is supposed to increase testosterone through semen retention.
[deleted] 8y ago
in my experience it depends, sometimes it helps to refill your balls
theselfmadealpha 8y ago
If I remember correctly, not jacking off will only increase testosterone levels for a few days before dropping back down again. I've read up on the nofap and semen retention trends and I'm not sold on either. No porn, on the other hand, I think can be beneficial. But it's all about whatever works for you. Are you finding nofap to have any benefits?
[deleted] 8y ago
I just started no fap last week so really haven’t seen anything noticeable yet. I’ll be on soft mode since I’ll probably have sex at least once a week.
Gozsayin 8y ago
I have done no fap before. The main points are to simply stop watching porn which mentally fuck u up since it's a fake stimulation that is so accessible. The no fap part is more of insurance, one problem that a previous porn addicted like myself had was simply a lack of juice in the trunk for when I needed it. Now I go aleast a week before jerk off because fuck it
[deleted] 8y ago
Trust me porn makes you sexually needy.
theselfmadealpha 8y ago
I'm curious to know, what do you mean by that, exactly? Can you explain?
scissor_me_timbers00 8y ago
What’s the monthly cost of TRT?
theselfmadealpha 8y ago
With insurance, for the testosterone and needles, it's less than $20 a month. Once you get your protocol dialed in, you only need to see your doc and get blood work once or twice a year. I get mine done twice a year.
[deleted]

Just to add to that, newest science about muscle memory basically says you will profit from doping (eg. roiding up) even if at the moment of competition you are 100% clean in any way. So running such a cycle just once could have a pretty huge effect due to muscle memory. And no I haven't done it and yes you absolutely must inform yourself appropriately before you do so.
ChadTheWaiter100 8y ago
So are you saying if you get big off of one cycle and somehow lose your strength and size you can gain the majority if not all back? Is that what you mean by the muscle memory comment?
beginner_ 8y ago
I haven't tried it bit more or less that is what the studies say. Maybe you don't get to the exact same level but a level higher than you would be without having used steroids with the same amount of training.

If you're a moron and don't do your research, and you have bad genetics. If you know what you're doing, side effects are easily controlled.
MayanEnt 8y ago
Fair enough. I personally won’t ever take steroids because although I want to get as big as possible I’m content with what I can achieve naturally. For me personally taking roids would only be worth it if I was competing and making a living out of it. I also don’t see a point taking roids to get bigger if I will lose those extra gains once I stop taking roids. But meh, to each his own; I still admire hard work when I see it.
Skinnynomore 8y ago
You don’t lose the gains if you know what you’re doing. It’s only once your surpass your genetic limit that you’ll slowly lose anything above it once you come off, but even that’s not an exact science.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
Just FYI. If you are below your genetic potential keepoling most of your gains after a cycle is definitely possible if you continue to train hard and PCT effectively.
TheProphetPhysiquiel 8y ago
Yup. A lot of people (ignorant people) think that you can shove a needle in your ass a couple times a week and you'll look like Arnold, but the reality is that you still need to work hard and eat right to get the results you want. I respect the natty tho
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
because you can. It's idiots that don't know how to train properly that hop on gear so they can fuck around in the gym and grow anyway.

warburgio 8y ago
DAA ups your prolactine, which usually you do not want.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
Just so readers know, a lone blood test can often be a poor indication of your actual test levels. They rise and fall during the day and can often be vastly different one week to another.
For example: I got tested two years ago before doing a steroid cycle. I was near the bottom of the reference range. I got tested again a few days ago as I'm about to hop on another cycle and my test was near the top of the reference range. Same time of day, fasted, no alcohol, drugs or gym the days prior.
If you're going to commit to the needle for life (TRT) then at least make sure you've done everything in your power to improve your body's capability to produce test. The only thing that's changed between those two tests is I eat a lot better and am generally less stressed out. My sleep cycle is messed up by work sometimes so it could probably be better too.
theselfmadealpha 8y ago
I second this. Ideally, you should get your levels tested 2 or 3 times before making the decision to start TRT. Like TheDialecticParadox said, levels rise and fall throughout the day. A lot of doctors like you to test early in the day when your levels are usually highest. What's important is that you get tested the same time of day each time you get tested.
TheProphetPhysiquiel 8y ago
Did you try SARMs before your cycle? I don't want to do an anabolic cycle until later in life, but I'm thinking about hopping on the SARM train.
ralavio 8y ago
Just did lgd and gained 10 pounds in 8 weeks. Zero sides. I'm pcting with DAA and a few other supps listed in here. I'm on day 5 off, strength is the same so far.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
I didn't use any anabolic SARMS. Did a cycle of cardarine and mk-677.
Ask anyone that's used steroids or used both steroids and SARMs and they'll tell you it's not worth it. First reason: Any decent anabolic SARM will supress you. If you're going to supress your natural test might as well go all the way and just use steroids. Second reason: The cost. UGL gear is pretty cheap. Where I live (AUS) it's around the same cost do to a cycle of SARMS. Once again, might as well reap 10x the results for the same $$$.
TheProphetPhysiquiel 8y ago
I know the risks involved with both, but they're way lesser with sarms. I already know the cycle I'd run, and have my pct figured out. The thing is I don't want any dramatic results, just an 8-12 week cycle to improve my aesthetics in a shorter time.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
You don't want dramatic results? Isn't that the point of steroids/sarms?
Anyhow, how does one PCT with sarms? Most of the time I see those paid forum shills throwing around their naturopathic herbal supplements as sarms PCT.
You seem set on SARMS. Only way you'll come to agree with me is if you try both for yourself.
TheProphetPhysiquiel 8y ago
Sarms are way less powerful than steroids, and they're more of an entry way into the "unnatty" world. Some sarms are more suppressive than others, but there are AIs you can run on/after cycle, which I would.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago

My natural test levels dropped by close to 100% 3-4 months post-cycle, but I have read stories of guys' natural testosterone actually increasing after a cycle.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
Yeah man some guys don't recover as well. Jusy remember my results are a year after getting off. No matter how bad you juice everyone recovers 100% after a year. Anyway I'm not sure how it works but you could be right. Maybe the cycle did boost my levels.

I agree and think it's worth it, but some guys don't think it's appealing because they don't want to be dependent on exogeneous testosterone for the rest of their lives. That's a respectable reason to stay away from AAS in my book.
People who abstain simply because they think it's cheating are retards, though. They also tend to believe government propaganda that high testosterone turns you into a raving madman.

my testosterone levels at 20 (when i started) were about 500ng/dl... not great.
i would venture to guess that many, many men have even lower natural levels.. you aren't replacing it if you never had it in the first place.
you are giving yourself something that you need - that you've never had
MisterRoid 8y ago
Every man should have his T checked. I had 16nmol/l when I started at 27. Don't know what that is in ng/dl, but it's not good. My life has gotten much better since I started injecting two years ago, and I plan to keep doing it for the rest of my life.

Most people who say injection testosterone shrinks balls and ya da yada don’t know about HCG. I’m taking testosterone and using HCG and have the same balls.
[deleted] 8y ago
After having learned all about this stuff, it’s amazing how much bro science is out there. “Roid rage” is actually a symptom of higher estrogen levels, not testosterone. And of course, as you mentioned, the shrinking balls thing. I pin HCG 24 hours before each test shot and have had no issues
hiddenpersona 8y ago
Exactly. These guys don’t know how calming testosterone is. You are always in the zen zone where things go smooth, and if things get aggressive, you get the raw calm power. The roid rage is high estrogen where you become bitchy and this little dog kind of barking and vibes. I tell everyone to go watch nature documentaries and see high T animals. Those niggas are usually chill and calm as fuck until shit get tense. Watch lions, bears, gorillas. High T is a calming energy, period.
[deleted] 8y ago
Yup. I've experienced nothing even resembling roid rage. If anything, I'm a lot more subdued. Not in a passive way, but just in a way that I don't feel like I have anything to prove. My boss was commenting on my "presence" the other day. I'm in a job where I do a ton of public speaking and presenting, taking questions and answers. He said he had never seen anyone with my kind of presence, and that I was slightly intimidating, but also very authoritative in the way I speak, without being too forceful. TRT has really changed a ton for me.

lol @ 'destroying my health'
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
Destroying your health, with test injections you can stretch your prime well into your 40s look at Dwayne Johnson does he look unhealthy to you. I would much rather live 35+ years with a great physical physique and power while feeling young then hit my 40s looking like an old worn down sack of shit
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
I am 31 and can fuck 21 year olds. Does Martin Berkhan look like a worn sack of shit? Brad Pilon? Just take your health seriously and you won't look like shit.
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
If you don’t think those guys you listen are on TRT you are beyond reason. Even your idols are taking this shit and you still bash it ????????
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
You are beyond reason, most guys are doing too fucking much volume with too low intensity fucking around and got shit bodies. Think they have to take steroids to look good. Look up all the old school body builders and their stats, pre roid era. But then again they didnt train the shit way that has become so normal and is purely influenced by juicers.

Probably because we'll have that body a decade before you will, oh and reaping the increased confidence, sex drive and motivation of supraphysiological test levels. Definitely worth all the 'destruction' of my health. Oh wait...according to all those tests I pay for my health is actually better than when I started, probably due to being able to train 2x a day every day. Don't be a tosser and educate yourself before slinging crap on people that choose not to accept the limitations of being 'natural'.
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
You are an idiot if you can't get big natural. Sure you might not get a big as you want, but for most women they prefer athelic and powerful to the drug physique.
Now let me educate you, you got something called a heart, pumping yourself with trenbolone can make that little thing blow up in size. You are talking like a young man pursuing looks without ever having tried the downside of risk.
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
Tren isn’t what they use for TRT lmao, and he is the idiot? ???????????? don’t try to educate anyone else
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
Lmao. I love every time there's a submission regarding steroids or TRT there's always one insecure, elitist little boy trying to take the high road with 'you guys r dumb because you're ruining ur health lol'.
I understand the risks perfectly. I understand there is risk of arterial plaque build up, high BP, hair loss, liver damage etc. But that doesn't become a concern unless you take stupid doses and don't cycle off. My body is actually healthier than it's ever been. My BP is lower than when I started, liver is healthy, still have all my hair, balls still work, no acne, resting heart rate and cardiovascular fitness have improved, etc.
Steroids have improved my life on and off cycle. Oh, and not every one that takes gear is trying to look like arnold. Lots of athletes take it for the peformance boost and not for the aesthetics.
I doubt this is going to change you're mind, because natty purists have the reasoning of a crying preschooler, but get out of discussions relating to gear if you don't know shit.
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
I understand why people take steroids, what I am telling you is that you are gambling with your health for vanity, when you can get pretty big without roids. I can tell you are a teenager or someone in the start of his 20ties because of the way you are handling the subject.
Taking tren will age you faster period, will you "feel this"? no. Can a bloodtest detect all of this? No. Thicker blod builds more arterial plaque, super physiological androgen levels makes your blood thicker, It also leads to LV growth (left ventricular) - which has a whole bunch of problems I don't care to mention.
Bottom line: How you "Feel" on tren is not an indicator of how many years its gonna cut of your life. Can you do tren and cycle off and then never touch it again and probably not have any issues? - YES. And if you can manage that for a short period of time I dont think it's too bad. But if you do this for years on end it will have an effect and not one you can feel right now or even detect in bloodtests.

That was not what I was commenting on. I was commenting on trenbolone, not TRT within normal ranges. If you truly got a problem producing enough testosterone, I see no problem in TRT. But only after you have fixed your diet and sleep.
I see you are a med or dentist student. There has been done very few studies on trenbolone, but it is expected to produce left ventricular growth. In animals this was the case. That's why I am saying I strongly suspect it would be the case in humans as well, as it is well known that men are having more issues with left ventricular hypertrophy than women. Tren is 4 times more potent an androgen than is normal testosterone, this makes tren a dangerous drug to fool around with. I did say however, that I think one can probably get away with running a small cycle, get great results and stop. I would never do that to my body as it is a huge hazard and you can get big without doing AAS.
TheDialecticParadox 8y ago
Very little people takes tren for years on end bro. You seem to think that people who do TRT or take recreational cycles are doing metric fuck tons of gear. And you obviously didn't listen to me when I said I am not a bber. I took tren to pack some lean muscle on, and I did and probably won't use it again.
MisterRoid 8y ago
Thicker blood is one of the more serious side effects of AAS use, and what worries me the most after infertility. However, you can see it through blood tests (high RBC count), and there are ways of dealing with it (lots of fish in your diet, Omega 3 supplementation and getting drained of blood).
circlingldn 8y ago
Scandavia is so cucked they have random steroid tests in gyms for normal gym goers LOL
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
But you cannot read the modulation of your heart muscle. Some effects of tren and other AAS are not well researched and we have yet to see alot of the old bodybuilders as old men to see if there are serious health issues. Another thing that isn't so well studied is what it does to the body to carry around 210 pounds of muscle on a frame that is not suppose to be that heavy. That alone might result in problems with your heart and overall mortality.
Look I am NOT dogmatic about this, but we got one life and you can get good looking big without roids and maintain a good weight but not be a mass monster and avoid all the side effects.
MisterRoid 8y ago
It's true it's not as safe as some want to make it out to be. I'm probably at risk myself because of a heart defect I had as an infant, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I want to live a full life, and having high testosterone is a part of that for me.
As for training to look good for the ladies... Many of us don't train primarily for that. I want to be as strong as possible and would rather look like say Kyrill Sarychev or Hafthor Bjornsson than some Men's Physique competitor.
Scandinavianredpill 8y ago
Well, I just want to live long and be healthy and look good at the same time. I love lifting bigger weights too and I go for progressive overload but I never lose sight of the fact that I do it for health reasons and to feel good. Steroids are not compatible with that, it's a personal desicion, I just think alot of guys make these decisions young without really knowing what it means to actually pay the price for those decisions.

Go buy Bigger Leaner Stronger by Mike Matthews. And see his website. https://www.muscleforlife.com You can also get his second book after a couple of years. The AthleanX youtube channel also has a lot of useful stuff on exercises and biomechanics, avoiding injuries and working with correct form.
This and a round of stretching and yoga on rest days with some significant diet changes have made a huge difference. And I'm saying this as a beginner who couldn't put a pound of muscle in the past. A very sedentary lifestyle didn't help. I always found myself unmotivated and tired, getting drowsy after lunch, sleeping poorly.
My T levels are significantly better (I didn't measure it, but my body knows). Your mind becomes focused and intense, your drive is over the roof. No more feeling depressed on some days. Significantly more stoicism. And I sleep like a log, like I got knocked out. I sleep earlier. You feel like you want to change the world. It even shows up the way I drive my bike or car now.
Guy's the real deal.

Have deadlift dynamite but haven't gotten the chance to read it. Give us a quick summary. Also what's your deadlift numbers?
fortuitousmonk 8y ago
Thanks for the advertisement.
So I think just like lifting until your posture is correct is gonna shoot up the test levels, as will speaking your mind to a woman just like making a windfall of cash in business.
My view on TRT is that once you start supplementing that, your body is going to produce even less.
I have the same view as hair. Not gonna use Rogaine (still am not, using a natural supplement) until I absolutely need it. Not all men are gonna share that view.
So honestly, right now, I'm over 30 and don't have much trouble keeping it hard and all of that. Still able to do a couple of sessions per day and want more.
I'm sure lots of dumbasses will post about steroid use and listing a variety of reasons that they're not going to have health problems.
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
Yeah you are right, your body does stop producing when you start supplementing test, however it’s going to stop no matter what anyways. And there is zero negative side effects to giving your body the same amount of testosterone it was producing once it stops, and spectacular benefits to it. Supplementing before it stops to up ur levels has benefits but it also, like you said, will make your body stop producing naturally so you will most likely have to continue for life. In that instance it depends on the person whether or not it’s worth it.

This has to be the most ignorant thing I have ever read. Thanks for the laugh ????
Nosecel 8y ago
Answer this then, do you think you're going to feel the same once you discontinue use?
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
First of all I never said I am on TRT, second of all you are essentially saying “if you think you need the normal hormones your body produces in order to feel normal, your a drug addict “ that is absolute stupidity
Nosecel 8y ago
Your body isn't producing these hormones though, they're exogenous. Sure, it's still Testosterone. But if shit ever hits the fan and you don't have access to them anymore, you're fucked. Your argument is basically "Ohh, well your body naturally produces Testoterone so it's fine to start injecting a bunch of it"
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
No, if shit ever hits the fan people taking it will be just like every other man who doesn’t take it and is in their late 30s and no longer produces it naturally, but in the mean time they will feel and perform far superior. No down side.
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
There is no withdrawals or anything like that from testosterone, your body stops producing it due to age just like your hair turning grey, putting testosterone back in your system is no different then color back in ur hair. If they run out of hair dye they will go back to having grey hair, run out of testosterone to inject, back to having no testosterone. So should nobody dye their grey hair either?
Swoleygrowly 8y ago
And nobody is impressed by your miss interpretation of my words either, I never said anything close to “oh your body produces test so just inject a bunch of it” if that’s how you think you can win this argument void of logic you’ve already lost
