Greetings brothers,
Today I want to share you some simple rules that can be applied to your lives. These rules help raise your SMV and the quality of your life. Let's start off with the first rule.
Rule 1: Stand Up Straight With Your Shoulders Back
To stand up straight with your shoulders back is to accept the terrible responsibility of life, with eyes wide open. It means deciding to voluntarily transform the chaos of potential into the realities of habitable order. Most people these days don't have a good posture. I, myself have terrible posture, but I am lifting and stretching the parts that need tending. So quit drooping and hunching around.Speak your mind. Put your desires forward, as if you had a right to them—at least the same right as others.Walk tall and gaze forthrightly ahead. Dare to be dangerous. Encourage the serotonin to flow plentifully through the neural pathways desperate for its calming influence.
Rule 2: Treat Yourself Like Someone You Are Responsible for Helping
People are better at filling and properly administering prescription medication to their pets than to themselves. If we wish to take care of ourselves properly, we would have to respect ourselves—but we don’t, because we are—not least in our own eyes—fallen creatures.
Rule 3: Make Friends with People Who Want the Best For You
You should choose people who want things to be better, not worse. It’s a good thing, not a selfish thing, to choose people who are good for you. It’s appropriate and praiseworthy to associate with people whose lives would be improved if they saw your life improve.
When you dare aspire upward, you reveal the inadequacy of the present and the promise of the future.
Don’t think that it is easier to surround yourself with good healthy people than with bad unhealthy people. It’s not. A good, healthy person is an ideal. It requires strength and daring to stand up near such a person. Have some humility. Have some courage. Use your judgment, and protect yourself from too-uncritical compassion and pity.
Rule 4: Compare Yourself to Who You Were Yesterday, Not Who Someone Else is Today
No matter how good you are at something, or how you rank your accomplishments, there is someone out there who makes you look incompetent. Instead compete with yourself. Pay attention. Focus on your surroundings, physical and psychological. Notice something that bothers you, that concerns you, that will not let you be, which you could fix, that you would fix. You can find such somethings by asking yourself (as if you genuinely want to know) three questions:“What is it that is bothering me?” “Is that something I could fix?” and “Would I actually be willing to fix it?” If you find that the answer is “no,” to any or all of the questions, then look elsewhere. Aim lower. Search until you find something that bothers you, that you could fix, that you would fix, and then fix it. That might be enough for the day. “What could I do, that I would do, to make Life a little better?”
These are just 4 of the 12 rules that I have from a book called: 12 rules of life. I am not claiming any credit for it, but I want to share the knowledge that I have found and read with you fellows.

Downvoted. I am currently reading Jordan Peterson's book 12 Rules for Life: an Antidote to Chaos, the book that these 4 rules come from.
I appreciate that you're doing a summary of these rules for those who haven't discovered it yet or don't have the time, and I hope it helps people find his work. But you're basically writing cliff notes that are nowhere near as insightful as the long form essays in the book that accompany these rules.
But crediting "a book I'm reading" at the tag end of the post, after initially presenting it as just "hey guys here's 4 rules to live by" and not even mentioning the author's name...that strikes me as disingenuous.

Where is the discussion of the lobster dominance hierarchy?
[deleted] 8y ago
You mean, we should organize ourselves like lobsters?

I agree with you that it was a really important part in the book. I didn't use it, because most people on TRP only want to read simple rules and use it.
[deleted] 8y ago
Maybe from your world, but not from mine.
I think that goes to the two main, from my point of view, demographics here. There are kids who stumbled here for one reason or another, then there are grown ass men who are trying to come to terms with divorce rape/branch swinging.

You “come to terms” with it by pulling your panties up and hitting the gym + talking to fucking women
[deleted] 8y ago
I'd be the last to disagree.
Datanami 8y ago
You should make two other posts to cover the 12
CrowleyEusford 8y ago
Yeah, I can do that. If there is any demand for it.

Rule 1 tends to invite a lot of hostility and little dogs that endlessly bark at ya... that’s what I’ve been dealing with for years. But I keep on and keep moving forward with that knowing smirk.
sharp7 8y ago
It might be because you formerly didnt have good posture? I know for me when Ive improved myself before the transition is when you get the most douches. They can sense your "forcing" the good posture and that they may be able to tear you back down.
dix2long 8y ago
Haha, if a dude wants to give you shit for posture, it says a lot more about him than it does about you. Personally, they're my favorite jokes, lol. And little dogs get eaten, that's why they're separated from the bigger dogs at the dog park!

What are the others? This post really made my day nonetheless, and I wanna thank you.
CrowleyEusford 8y ago
You are welcome, brother. I would suggest you to read the book, because it goes really in depth. Some rules in his book need more explanation than others.

I read somewhere that the best way to fix your posture is to pretend you're wearing a cape. Been keeping that thought in the back of my mind and it works wonders

Pretending is for children
Sergnb 8y ago
This reads like snake-oil BS when summed up like this. I really recommend reading the original material to go more in-depth in the ideas and see what the author really means with these rules.
chrisname 8y ago
Eh, the first two chapters are great, but it gets preachy and he spends most of the rest of it talking about the Bible.
Sergnb 8y ago
He leans a lot into religion and stuff but if you approach it from the "these are all universal archetypes that apply to everyone, no matter if it was 2000 years ago or today", it makes a whole load of sense.
Of all the arguments I've heard that rely heavily on the bible and the lord and whatnot, his actually does make some logical sense, which even the most stubborn atheist can appreciate. I include myself in that category. I tend to eyeroll a lot when people start saying your usual "muh lord almighty" nonsense, but he actually makes an effort to frame his arguments in the archetypes and the storytelling and charcters, instead of just empty bullshit myth and spiritual mumbo jumbo

I gave credit to the book I have it from. If people are really curious then they will see that the author is ''Jordan Peterson''.
[deleted] 8y ago
literally everyone here knows who jordan peterson is
you gonna try to pass off one of the side bar links as your own too..
miller211 8y ago
Lol he clearly stated this wasn't his original content
[deleted] 8y ago
oh i should apologize to him for wasting my time then
miller211 8y ago
That seems appropriate , yes

These are the first 4 chapters of 12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson bruh. Come up with something original
momslittleboy 8y ago
And he just summed them up in a 5 minute read, something to be appreciated
bodomfan91 8y ago
Original post did not credit the book.
momslittleboy 8y ago
Maybe you should reread the original post
bodomfan91 8y ago
I did. It did not credit the book and was later edited.
CrowleyEusford 8y ago
To be fair I didn't edit it later. It was already there. Either you saw it or you didn't.
momslittleboy 8y ago
Fair enough mate, I'm not here to argue with anyone about shit like this ;)
blkMGTOW07 8y ago
Jordan Peterson is the man. I'm gonna buy his book soon. I listen to his lectures to and from work everyday.

One of JP's chapter titles was "Take your damn pills"
Something tells me he might be a pill popper.
NikolaGeorgiev 8y ago
For me rule number 4 is the hardest one as I dislike mediocrity, but have not created anything of substance yet.
[deleted] 8y ago
I don't trust the author of that book much......he's just another version of political correctness......I'd rather stick to TRP.
KookyDonut 8y ago
Simple and elegant. Thank you for sharing.
BeeSwattter 8y ago
Is this for fucking real? Are people this fucking stupid?
CrowleyEusford 8y ago
If people take better care for their pets than themselves. I would say so.
