One of the biggest problems I see among men is the lack of a positive mindset abundance mentality. This is one of the biggest and most important foundations of TRP. There are hundreds of sidebar material on abundance mentality but a huge percentage of men, even on this sub struggle with it. What do most men have in common with low abundance? Why do they struggle with it? Well because it’s simple they the mindset to succeed. Guys fail to realize that abundance mentality is a postive mindset that you should applying to everything in your life. You know what almost all of these men suffer from? These four thoughts constantly circulating through their heads.
- Why does nothing ever go my way
- If I just had this (job/car/girl/house) I would be happy
- Am I good enough
- Why does everyone always get what they want, and I don’t
Everyone at some point in their lives have suffered with these thoughts. I suffer with these thoughts sometimes.
Let’s look at some examples of how these thoughts can dictate your life.
Steve feels like he made an extra 50k a year that he would be happy because he could buy the car he always wanted, make his wife happy and his parents would be proud of him for finally making 6 figures. He no longer had to be jealous of his friends for making more money than him and could finally feel as he was “Keeping with the Joneses.” However what Steve failures to realize is that the extra money wouldn’t make him happy, it would just cause his problems to change. His wife will become unhappy because now they need to remodel their house. Steve is unhappy with his new car because he doesn’t have a newer model. Steve’s parents are unhappy because they feel he needs to now make even more money.
This past year, I became obsessed with becoming an investment banker in New York. The reason for this is because my freshman year of college I read on WSO that if I had become a banker in a top group, I would make 160k out of college and after 2 years I could move to a private equity mega fund and make 400k my second year there and my fourth year out of college. My school being on the west coast I obsessively worked and networked in order to achieve this. Because of this my grades dropped, and I started to isolate myself socially. I neglected even looking at other internships because they weren’t good enough. In the end I got super lucky do to a crazy circumstance and into a top group on wall street which would enable me to complete my goal. I could've failed and been left with zilch. However, I did it at the expense of my own well-being. I am on the verge of losing my scholarship because my grades dropped, and I lost some of my core friends for blowing them off for months. Well it turns out after all of this that I hate my internship and will turn down a full-time offer at the end of the summer. (Will delve into more details of my internship if anyone is interested).
Like Steve I put my happiness and self-worth based on career prestige. I worked so hard to get it that I neglected other important aspects of my life and let them go into free fall. I lost my abundance mindset. This caused me to develop a scarcity mentality.
Everyday 100s of new guys find TRP. They learn about all the skills they need in order to improve their life. However, guys who know red pill knowledge inside an out not making a difference in their lives. Every day I see tons of guys on AskTRP, posting the same questions over and over about what to do about this girl or how to get over/fuck oneitis or if they should wait 12 minutes and 44 seconds to respond to some text from a girl. Experienced Red Pillers like myself and others will usually give them advice or criticism to which they will refute (as if they know more) or take. But me giving some newbie 18 year old a solution to a minor question is like me giving him painkillers and a cast for a broken arm so he can keep playing in the football game. We are just putting a band aid on the problem and not fixing the root cause of rearranging or replacing the bone so it can build itself to be stronger at the core. Eventually without fixes his arm will snap in the game and he will end up even worse off as before (I’m sure you guys know what happens when low SMV or overly aggressive guys try applying red pill techniques to girls).
So how do you fix this mentality. Well the first step is to cut out negative thoughts of your life. If you suffer from the thoughts above, its time to change your mindset. If other people succeed and you don’t, instead of finding reasons to to hate on them, find out why you aren’t doing as well. If you know has something good going for them, look at your own life and see what great things you have going for you. Write down your thoughts every night. Chances are if you have the ability to read this post, your quality of life is better than 90% of the world population.
There has never been a better time to live in history than in America in 2018. Yet so many fucking people are depressed. My advice to not fall into the trap of negative thoughts above is to get off your fucking phones/xboxes/laptops and go do things outdoors. I remember good old days back in elementary school in the 2000s, the guys and I used to go airsofting in the park next to our houses. Nobody cared as long as we stayed in a certain area. Can you imagine if kids were doing this today. Police would probably come and threaten to kill us and neighbors would file complaints. In middle school we’d have bonfires at the beach and flirt with girls. Its sad what the world is coming to. Now all I see is teens sitting on their phones in circles. This past weekend, my favorite plate came to visit me. Instead of sitting in doors fucking like some guys want to do with their plates, we snuck on the roof of my building to drink champagne, rented a duffy boat so we could go cruise around the Hudson and crashed a 12 year olds birthday party in Central Park and played pickup football with all of them. One of the best weekends I've had in a very long time. Go out and explore. My best ever memories was running doing crazy things.
The final thing is stop living for validation. You know what the difference between real men vs everyone else is. We don’t need to live for validation. The same guys who post on AskTRP about how to fuck their oneitis or so are the same guys who are obsessed with validation. Why is that? Well the only reason they want to fuck them is to show them they are worthy enough for them. Who gives a fuck what your oneitis thinks. They are only bring you down. Axe them from your life. Every time I check social media, I always see the same shit. Hot girls I know posting selfies so 100s of guys can comment how amazing they are. Self absorbed guys posting pictures of their sorority slut girlfriends about how much they love them or kissing them. Cool, while your getting controlled by your slutty girlfriend, I fucked her six ways from sunday our freshman year before she started the CC and got out when I wanted to. Show them off as much as you like. So how do you fix this mindset? Start staying congruent in your own beliefs. Trust your own mindset and don’t let your ideas and actions controlled by others. So you're a Trump supporter great. I am too. You don’t need to announce about it but don’t change your beliefs so you can impress and fuck some SJW girl. Control your own thoughts and you’ll soon realize the only person you need validation from is yourself.
Putting this all together. Your lack of failure isn’t because you aren’t good-looking, muscular, social or whatever, it's because you lack the mindset to succeed. If you are deficient in the areas fix them. Develop the abundance mentality and a positive mindset, not just for women like most guys here do but in all areas of your life. I guarantee you'll be much happier and more successful in life. Before college I suffered from an extremely negative mindset and let people walk all over me. Once I discovered TRP, I began to change my mentality and soon began to do things I didn’t think were possible given where I had come from. Now instead of me being an afterthought, I became respected amongst everyone. Funny how guys who shit on self-improvement and TRP are the same guys who come to me for advice everyday. They are also the same guys who reject this advice I give them and continue to fail in life. Be a winner and a doer not a loser and a schmoozer as my grandpa would say.
I’m not gonna lie, it took me a long time to write this. I was supposed to go out tonight but ended up spending a few hours on this. Why did I spend so much time? Because I want to help you guys because I want to see everyone here succeed. In fact in writing this I learned as much about all the struggles I’ve faced over the past 9 months or so.
Edit: As I expected a lot of you have or will ask questions about my IB experience. If you're interested send me or post a list of questions and I'll happily answer any questions. I have some time right now so fire away.
More info: To all be the people asking ow you develop this mindset. First you need to recognize that you suffer from these thoughts and actions. So many of my friends and people think they are perfect and everyone else around them is flawed. In reality they are just low SMV betas who seek external validation, conformity and comfortability.
- Recognize the problems or things you want to work
- Develop a course of action. Write it down before you go to bed
- Put yourself out of comfort zone. Reject the status quo (within reason).

Great writing as always but how do you constantly stay in the mindset of positive abundance and idgaf flow? It’s easier to develop a mindset and then again fallback into same habits? How to make it stick? Appreciate the detailed post.

For people who struggle with this, get a routine of meditation, use an app with positive affirmations and what helped me; microdosing.

Great post.
I recently started my first job out of college in the financial industry. I have been very happy and positive so far since I started, but damn man after reading your post I’m feeling lazy. I am very consistent at the gym and have time for my hobbies, but I’m only working 40 hours a week.
I just feel like working 100+ hours a week, like you mentioned in a comment, would destroy my balance in life. Then again, maybe I just have a lazy mindset.
flashcash12 5y ago
You aren’t lazy for working 40 hrs a week. I would kill right now to do that. Working 3 times that every week isn’t sustainable or healthy at all. I have no balance in life right now. I still go out but I’m not the same as my usual confident and charismatic self because I’m exhausted and under nourished. Read my last comment if you want to know more about my daily lifestyle.
bruiser18 5y ago
I needed this, more than you know. Thanks.
I want to add a quick note on why changing your mindset makes you so successful; it's called the law of attraction. I don't mean the new age bullshit like asking the universe for stuff and it gives it to you, but I do mean this: the way you feel, your vibe, you attract more of that. If you feel like a loser, depressed, then that is what you are - that is what you're attracting. If you shift your mindset to feel abundant, successful and powerful, then that is what you will get more of.
Rewire your subconscious. I promise you it changes your life.
[deleted] 5y ago
I've been trying to put on this "positive mindset" for a while, but it's hard. This doesn't mean i'll stop trying.
If you're into religion or spitrituality and want to know more about positive mindset, i would recommend you to read Joseph Murphy's books. They are great and talk a lot about it. Apparently, this kind of mindset is a biblical principle.
[deleted] 5y ago
The bible (biblia is library in greek) is a collection of books so important that our human race has kept them intact for over 2000 years. I seriously recommend everyone read the bible. Its redpill and it is a handbook for how people should behave in society to keep it from collapsing into total chaos. It also just generally has really good advice.
gbdoragnic 5y ago
The positive mindset is a form of bullshit called spinning, You have to have the ability to look at your current situation with positivity, If a fat women calls herself a BBW, that is a positive mindset, it's a spin, so many consider this delusion and try and become perfect.
You will always have flaws, that is what makes you human, spinning your flaws into positive things helps

Well noted, I'll take a look.

Not gonna lie, psychedelics have helped me an incredible amount. I think everyone should take the time to research traditional psychedelics and make an opinion for their selves.
The psychedelic experience has proven to be some of my most significant experiences that have allowed me to see things from a whole new perspective. Its not for everyone, but it's definitely for me.
impuestazo 5y ago
What do you mean by psychedelics? Seems interesting.
MojoOnTheSummit 5y ago
LSD, and Magic Mushrooms primarily.
Back before they were made illegal in 1966, they were extensively used and studied in the world of psychology with amazing results.
It was used in fields of alcohol dependency with amazing results, along with general mental or personal ailments.
Taken with the right knowledge of how it works, or under the guide of someone experienced in using it for improvement can make huge changes to ones way of thinking after just one mid to high range dose.
There is tons of literature out there about LSD especially, which I have probably used more than anything else. It never ceases to amaze me.

> Write down your thoughts every night.
Good advice,
> Can you imagine if kids were doing this today. Police would probably come and threaten to kill us and neighbors would file complaints.
No they won't, negative mindset, you can be loud, smoke weed, do drugs, drink, party
> Why is that? Well the only reason they want to fuck them is to show them they are worthy enough for them. Who gives a fuck what your oneitis thinks.
YOU not they , you are speaking from experience here correct? Because for me it was finding love and willing to work for it, I had no problem putting my 100% soul into the one, and I never expected anything in return.
Once I realized I could put 0% of my soul and spit some PUA bs, I still wanted a oneitis, but at least I had the skills to succeed.
> (I’m sure you guys know what happens when low SMV or overly aggressive guys try applying red pill techniques to girls).
100% Success, red pill isn't a guy who acts like a piece of shit, it's handling shit test, this takes practice, bombing is ok
> Funny how guys who shit on self-improvement and TRP are the same guys who come to me for advice everyday.
Because it's not a self improvement sub, we are all trying to find ourselves and figure out what works, if TRP taught you how to do basic adult shit than that says a lot about you.
> So many of my friends and people think they are perfect
But not you right, this is a than thou attitude, despite our humble beginnings we tend to judge people and category people holier than thou
> Putting this all together. Your lack of failure isn’t because you aren’t good-looking, muscular, social or whatever, it's because you lack the mindset to succeed. If you are deficient in the areas fix them.
I Disagree , and this is really a split between TRP members, The mindset to succeed lead me to PUA which i got success , at the end of the day we all get what we want.
> Be a winner and a doer not a loser and a schmoozer as my grandpa would say.
Be yourself, You speak of a PUA technique called spinning, it's when a women says BBW instead of fat, the positive mindset is just bullshit , but it's ok because it's a spin
> Develop the abundance mentality and a positive mindset
Never self deprecate , In short learn to spin who you are into a positive person

Self-Esteem should still exist even if you have everything taken away from you
[deleted] 5y ago
It should, but sometimes it doesnt. And theres books for that.
I'd recommend reading breaking the chains of low self esteem, and any other good self esteem book, find one that works for you,and also setting a medium term length goal, and also doing mma / bjj /weightlifting. These things boost testosterone and give you a little more self esteem.
tayowsp 5y ago
This is exactly my problem. I have a great job and financial situation, but I'm very unhappy with my sex/social life and with my looks.
I literally spend hours every day thinking that I'm a failure because I cannot bring myself to approach a girl, comparing myself to my hotter/more confident friends, looking at myself in the mirror and wishing I was more muscular and bigger.
I even jumped on steroids hoping to get the looks I desire and to have a confidence boost but neither things have happened yet. I still feel like a failure with girls and I am jealous of other more masculine men that get them on a regular basis and can have a fulfilling sex life.
This is devastating me and I cannot break the cycle. I feel like a failure because I'd rather stay home and masturbate than going out and approach, and I don't have the balls to approach because I think I am a failure.
The only thing that keeps me sane is going to the gym, but I recently got carpal tunnel and I will have to take a break, which makes me feel like shit.
I want to change my attitude and mentality. I want to be happy with myself and break the cycle.
Your post is helpful, but it doesn't give me practical advice that I can follow. What small steps can I take to fix myself?
What should I do to stop this cycle of depression?
flashcash12 5y ago
You suffer from what a lot of modern men, particularly on this sub have. They think because they have red pill knowledge that they should be getting laid like everyone else. The problem is that you fell into the trap of those 4 thoughts in your head above.
Every hour you spend dreaming of a better life is another hour of wasted time and more thoughts of depression. Start being thankful for things you do have.
I'm not gonna bullshit you dude. Looks are the most important thing for attracting girls because its your first impression. However if you can't back up your looks with social skills, confidence and masculine behavior traits, being attractive won't help you. If you are truly unhappy with your looks maybe get a quick plastic surgery procedure. While most people might judge you, I know a few guys who have told me in confidence of getting a procedure and what I can say is its it makes you less insecure and confident then go for it. Just don't go overboard.
Get off steroids, they are shit for you. Nothing easy in life comes quick. You don't need a massive body in order to succeed.
I would stop worrying about what other guys do. I'm not gonna lie, I have done some super crazy things and have had some insane life experiences that most guys would never experience or get extremely envious of. At the end of the day it doesn't make a difference because I could get jealous and compare myself to the next guy who has done more.
Instead of focusing on approaching, why don't you focus on having a good time with your friends. You approach girls because its fun and variable, not because you are some robot that is either sex or nothing. In the post I talk about how basing your happiness on things in life isn't going to make you happy.
In order to be happy with yourself you have to find an identity that is your own and not based on your friends, family or societal expectations. If you constantly compare yourself to guys who seem to have more, you'll never win. Its like fighting against Father Time, you'll always lose and end up wasting time.
Society today is obsessed with instant gratification. Social media, porn, internet, tv and even casual sex. There is nothing wrong with these things (except maybe porn) but when you do it to excess it'll wreck your life. Develop som balance in your life and not live for instant gratification. Like I said I've done some crazy things that a lot of guys could only dream of and I'll never get to experience again but it was all instant gratification. It felt amazing in the moment but I don't feel any better now. If anything sometimes I get sad knowing I'll never experience it again. Stop living for instant gratification and start living how you want and by your rules. You'll never break out of depression unless you can understand this.
There is no steps you can mechanically follow. The advice I gave you is the only way you’re ever going to change.
HumbleRedPillStudent 5y ago
Great reminder about validation.
We waste so much time chasing that and our lives could be truly happy otherwise.
Thanks for focusing on what a grateful, positive, and simultaneous attitude can achieve

You showed that you can work hard enough to get into wall Street? Well, to focus on what you want takes guts and determination. to recognise you went wrong and shut the door- same.
Now you got the method, take some time out and find something which inspires you enough to stick at. Just don't fuck around for too long. In true trp fashion, I shall point you towards the gym while you contemplate...

I've read a few books on HFT but thats about it. I don't know much about the industry but know how to program with Java but its been years since I built anything and I'm super rusty. How's the funding for your business going?
I'm still in college and I have one year left of school. This summer I usually work from 9 am-3am everyday except Tuesday and Friday is 9am-12am and weekends are 11am-1am. Some weeks its more some less. I usually go out on Tuesdays, Fridays and maybe Saturday if I'm not tired.
During the school year I used to go out Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I would work about 6 hours everyday M-F and maybe go to 1-2 classes a week. For the most part I never go to class because I usually set the curve on everything. During Junior year I worked the same hrs but usually just went out Thursday. Senior year I'm gonna go back to back going out Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and cut back a bit on working and school.

As someone that is a Private Wealth client of many Wall Street Banks. Hey man I’m actually in a similar boat too. Rising junior at a “target school” currently doing PMW at MS this summer. Also in the midst of the summer analyst recruiting cycle at all those bulge bracket banks. Would be awesome to hear about your background/story whenever you have some free time. Wish you the best for the future dude.
As an aside, it’s kinda funny that most kids adopt the “2 years of IB -> PE” mentality with the expectation that they’ll suddenly be working livable hours. Private equity is just as grueling.

I’m working 45 hours/weekly, my energy is down the drain, how to get energy to follow through my dayjob?
flashcash12 5y ago
In my case you suck it up. I work about 115 hrs every week. I'd say anything 80 and under is super doable. You need to sleep better at night. If you are tired throughout the day, then you may suffer from a sleep disorder. Also eat as healthy as possible. I do and its the only thing keeping me alive. I’m making just over 3k a week and I’m 21 so the motivation is there.
critterbrah 5y ago
Man, how does 115 hours look? That's 8 hours sleep if you work 16 hours 7 days and sleep under your desk. Not saying bullshit just wondering what that looks like/ how you still find time to lift and live.
flashcash12 5y ago
I don’t have anytime to lift or live. Luckily last call in New York is at 4 am so I usually go out on Friday and maybe Tuesday. I average about 115 hrs but can work over or under that amount by about 10-15 hrs. Due to the unpredictability of banking. You can be there the whole night to work on a deal due the next day or leave at 11 pm. My average weekday is from 9am-3am, Tuesday’s the bank has let us leave at midnight to go to taco Tuesday. Friday it’s 9am-12am. Weekends it’s 11am-1am. So it averages between 114-118 hrs a week. I’d say 30% if it is is sitting around doing nothing. Now working 16 hrs a day doesn’t sound like it’s super shit. but until you actually do it, fucking sucks. I don’t have time to sit on the couch for 20 mins and relax, can’t take a leisurely shit at my apartment or cook a nice meal. If I do I’m just cutting the time I’m not at work. The worst was last week week wen I got the flu and I worked 133 hrs that week.
Luckily I get paid a lot so I can live by the office but usually set my alarm an hour before work so I can snooze it for 15-20 mins. Then I hop in the shower, eat and walk to work. So that already cuts off an hour of sleep. It also takes me about 20 mins to get ready for bed and another 15 to fall asleep because I suffer from mild insomnia. Some nights I can’t even fall asleep because I get stressed about falling asleep right away and end up staying up the whole night.
Due to all of this I average about 4 hrs of sleep on weekdays and 7 hrs on weekends. Of course if I go out Friday I get 5 hrs of sleep and then have to be back at work Saturday morning.
If you’re wondering how I survive, I don’t eat a lot, drink a gallon of water a day, avoid sugar and carbs and jerk off in the bathroom after lunch and around 10-11 pm. I also take 2-3 20 min naps on the toilet. I’ve lost maybe 50 lbs off all my lifts and about 15-20 lbs of weight.
It’s not a sustainable lifestyle or career unless you want chronic health issues or just an iron man and can deal with it. Most banks are better but because our group has insane deal flow this is usually how it is.
[deleted] 5y ago

There's a lot of conflict in the average person who tries to switch to the positive mindset. You have to fight the negativity, right? No, the key is acceptance. What you resist, persists. Instead of trying to ignore negative thoughts, or worse, police them, write that shit down and analyze it for the truth. What is your brain trying to tell you? "I need to make more money" might be more about long term security than it is about short term shopping sprees. Maybe your goals don't match up with your values. Maybe all these geniuses in finance and investment would feel better in a field that actually helps people in need, rather than making more money for people who already have it. You could be the guy who cures a disease or creates a new invention. I feel like there is so much wasted talent and intelligence in investment banking but of course I see the appeal as well.
flashcash12 5y ago
People need instant gratification in life so thats why they crave money right away. I've always been surrounded by money my entire life but was never spoiled myself. I've worked for everything I've had. That's what really pushed me into banking.
Most people in banking aren't that smart. They are just robots trained to follow orders, work their asses off and memorize bs technicals. They call us monkeys for a reason. Guys in investments are really smart because they see the big picture.
My mom is an alternative doctor who has cured people from autism, multiple sclerosis and other mental/physical diseases. I've been interested in this but don't have the desire to go to medical school. I'll probably eventually become a real estate developer and build a bunch of affordable housing because its a money making machine and it houses people. Not bragging but I'm incredibly bright and don't want to waste my life in banking.
ebaymasochist 5y ago
I'm really glad to hear that last part, honestly, and no shame in bragging about being bright. It's your responsibility in life to know your strengths and not piss them away. I can't say I've done the same. I wasted two years in front of a computer gambling on the stock market, just trying to get a short cut for the capital to start a real business. It's really sad to look back on that time and know I'll never get it back. Now I have a son and time and energy are not quite abundant. It's not an option to work on something uninterrupted, 12-15 hours a day anymore.
The part that upsets me about the investment field is how many guys get through Harvard and Yale and end up there. We have really big problems that need solved, housing is a noble cause. Do well and make a ton of money. Follow your gut instinct and stay on track, brother

What books/articles from the side were most important to developing a positive mindset?

I'd check out anything by Dr. Amen. He's really into the whole postive mindset thing. I also read masculine development, its a great hybrid website by a guy named Jon Anthony. The sidebar has a list of books. For the most part the positive mindset is more of a lifestyle choice than reading. I usually only really read fiction books so I wouldn't really know anything else. Its important to instead of reading and understanding to but applying knowledge to your life. That's what an obscene amount of guys on here struggle with.
