When i take phenibut i feel like dogshit on my off days. But feel great and productive on my 9n days. Overall im stopping its use
Grock23 5y ago
Be extremely careful with it. It can be very addictice. Read some horror stories on the internet.
BrodinsOats 5y ago
I thought phenibut is a straight up drug, not a nootropic.
TheProspecter 5y ago
Isnt phenibut meant to aid sociability? I thought modafinil was the one used for productivity
SemperPrimus 5y ago
I guess so but when i take it i feel really good, mind racing, full of energy and positivity. Def makes me more productive. Then again i work with people so maybe thats why
BurnoutRS 5y ago
Theres quite a bit of overlap between the two areas. If you take an amphetamine drug like adderall, which people tend to use to study and improve their focus and concentration. Take it and go to the club and that same focus that let you zero in on your work now is now helping you zero in on partying.

Been taking nootropics for a while now and I’ll start with the one that has the most effect.
Vitamin D - Most people are deficient and this causes numerous problems such as fatigue and reduced testosterone. This one is an essential
L-Theanine & Caffiene. I take 250 mg and 200mg in the respective order and it makes me feel relaxed and calm for at least three hours. It’s also a great appetite suppressor for when I’m cutting
Creatine Monohydrate - Pretty self-explanatory if you’re working out. Studies have shown it also helps cognitive thinking.
Magnesium (400 mg) and Zinc (25 mg) - Magnesium helps you sleep and provides me with vivid dreams. Zinc is really good at increasing testosterone if you are deficient at it. Also increases sperm count.
Omega 3 Fish Oil - I take this every so often, helps improve cognitive skills and clarity.
5-HTP - A precursor to serotonin. This isn’t a necessary nootropic but it’s amazing in terms of quality of sleep, always feel refreshed in the morning. I also take this for other reasons for example after a night out if I took molly.
L-Tyrosine - A precursor to dopamine. There have been studies showing this to be a good fat burner and is recommended by many bodybuilding forums. Also helps with recovering from addictions.
Ashwagandha - Countless amount of people have reported this nootropic to alleviate anxiety and improve focus and concentration. I've been taking this supplement for a while now but I can't exactly support the claim above as I don't feel anxious most of the time.
I’d say the first four are the most typical and recommended nootropics to take if you’re getting into them.

Great list. L-dopa (in the form of mucuna pruiens) is also a dopamine prescursor that I have taken in the past.

Basically a waste of time unless you’re taking modafanil or phenibut IMO.
Maybe I was just a non-responder but finding a noot that works for you is a huge money pit and probably not worth it.
CanYouEvenCount 5y ago
Ritalin, modafanil and adderall are the only ones I’ve seen people take and work
TheProspecter 5y ago
Yeah ive heard modafinil can give you the edge on days when you need it. And phenibut makes you more social.
fade2clear 5y ago
yeah I think I was taking too high of a dose of Moda. It made me a bit lethargic after a few hours.
Phenibut was pretty enjoyable, and relaxing but it had diminishing returns to take even weekly (and the addictive properties)

How much was too much and what was the side effect?

I can’t find any evidence or other people that find this but I get appetite suppression with creatine monohydrate. I don’t worry about a loading phase, I just launch into 3g/day and it begins to help supress.
CaptDeadlift 5y ago
You should take at least 5g a day.
[deleted] 5y ago
I’ll take 3g per day thanks for your input.
ChadTheWaiter100 5y ago
No, you need to take 5 bredda.
[deleted] 5y ago
Cleary none of you actually read any literature on this topic.

Made me more productive and turned my life around.
I literally 3x the money I made using a combo of l-theanine and (not strictly a nootropic but close) modafinil.
I was initially drawn to them to improve my focus but quickly realized they offered so much more. Before nootropics, I didn't even know I was suffering from anxiety which held me back in many areas.
Corvus_Uraneus 5y ago
Took Alpha Brain for about a month. Didn't feel any different but my dreams were like fever dreams.

I’ve noticed that Ashwagandha gives me a subtle boost in libido
ScottyMo1 5y ago
Armodafinil is a game-changer for me. It gives me tons of energy, but not enough to make me jittery. It clears my head and speeds up my thoughts. I’m also one of the lucky ones that gets appetite suppression as a side affect. I started 18/6 intermittent fasting, and the armo helps curb the hunger big time.
Edit: For those asking, I take 150 mg of Waklert daily and no caffeine.
BrodinsOats 5y ago
I believe vitamin D has improved my immune system. I’ve stopped getting sick so much, although I believe sleep habits and not going out as much have played a huge role as well.
Ashwagandah helped when I was feeling pretty burned out from stress. It helps mitigate negative side effects of adderall (amphetamines) as well.
I don’t notice much if any effect from creatine or fish oil, but I take them anyways since they are well supported by evidence.
I tried TruBrain and Alpha Brain without any appreciable effect.
mr_lucky19 5y ago
I'd say most people on these drugs are experiencing the placebo effect and nothing more.
