Anniversary #5 is coming up this summer and I'm starting to brainstorm ideas. I'd love to hear what you all do for anniversaries or other gift giving events. I'm hopeful that hearing what everyone here has done will give my creativity a jump start.
Every year Husband makes me a new wedding band. I do something for him with the traditional theme for that year. ie: year 1 (paper) I wrote love notes and quotes and lyrics on 365 pieces of paper and hung them from the ceiling. My guy prefers gifts or gestures that require some time, effort and thought over "stuff" so this sort of thing delights him...also I threw in some Hershey Kisses for good measure.
Do you consider your man's "love language" when gifting? What have you done in the past? Are there gifts that you gave that really nailed it? Or going further...are you a couple that doesn't gift at all? Or do you have your own unique anniversary traditions?
Caveat: I know that sex and blow jobs are going to be a customary answer to the gift question. This is pretty obvious and not the sort of thing I mean.

I made my SO a book of drawings of me & him (i hand drew it because he likes doodles) of the reasons i love him & another one on all our adventures together - like a drawing from each place we’ve been. It was his fav gift ever and it kind of was like something silly i thought but he LOVED it . Like had a tear in his eye loved it . I’ve also done things w/ “reasons why i love you” and created a jar that has fun sexy things (in case we ever get stale - strip tease, date night at xyz, etc. kind of like those coupon books... doesn’t have to be sexy).
I’m not sure what your normally do for your bf but another idea is a super romantic dinner you make for him followed by a night out at his fav place or somewhere romantic (star watching, reminiscent of where your first met / fell in love kinda deal).
Edit : i just realized that 5th anniversary is wood. You can make a frame from a tree (example )and put a photo of you two or a tree slab like that or like this but edited for the occasion
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY XOX

Does your guy like traveling? #5 is pretty special! Hubby & I are hoping to go on a cruise for ours in a few years (I've never been on one; he's been to the Caribbean with his family & loved it! ). If he enjoys trips, maybe plan a weekend getaway to someplace that has special meaning to you two. Plan meals, snacks & activities during the trip that he enjoys or that you guys enjoy doing together. :) Even a quick day trip can be a lot of fun if you guys can't get away. Congrats! :)

Thanks! Logically I know five is a big deal, but we've been together more than double that so it doesn't feel that way :-). A trip is a lovely idea but we'll probably keep it low key (also, my guy wouldn't handle it well if I sprung a weekend away on him without prior notice.)

You're probably right about the spontaneous weekend thing, but I suppose you could tell him you're going somewhere (so he expects the trip) but just not say where you're going!

True, I'm sure I could convince him of anything if I promise we can ride the bikes too. Those motorcycles are his weakness :-)

BAM! There you go! ;-D

Well considering that the fifth anniversary is wood, I would suggest making something. I’m not very good at woodwork either, but you’d be surprised what you could do with some wood, glue, and a sander. Look up DIY woodwork projects. Even if something doesn’t turn out as you expected, I’m sure you’re husband will still love it. If it were me, I’d take a stab at making a wood picture frame, and put one of my favorite pictures of us in it. Good luck with your search!

I regularly diy stuff when I have no idea what I'm doing! And you are right, he just likes the effort. Last year I did a picture frame covered in linen with our wedding vows so I'd have to come up with something else

My SO and I both prefer something thoughtful (even a stuff, not only a gesture) over something expensive. For our fourth anniversary (not married, but the anniversary of the beginning of our relationship), apart from the nice dinner and "special" end of the evening (you know what I mean), I bought him a Star Wars robe that looks like a Jedi's. It may sound very silly, and not that romantic, but the fact I thought about it and chose something linked to his favourite films pleased him a lot.
Next January, it will be our fifth anniversary. So I plan on saving what I'll earn this summer with my student job to be able to pay for a trip to Roma in April (my SO loves Italy). I'll have to have his parents involved in the planning, as I want to keep it as a surprise for the longest time.
I just hope he won't have the same kind of idea ????

I have #2 coming up and then his birthday a few days later. Eek! And we are trying to buy a house so money is tight.
My husband and I are minimalists and we just went on vacation. And basketball season is over so my go-to of Spurs tickets won’t work!
For his birthday I’m organizing a brunch in Chicago with his family and a few friends.
