My husband gave me socks for Christmas.
I feel like a lot of women would scoff at the idea, but I Iove every pair he got for me, and I'll tell you why.
My husband and I both work full time. In our household, I do the grocery shopping, food preparation, and the bulk of the cleaning. My husband volunteered to do the laundry. One night, a couple months ago, he was folding a pair of my socks and noticed there were holes in the heels. He said, "Honey, you have holes in your socks! I'm going to get you some new ones." I already thought the idea was so sweet.
Christmas morning, we're opening gifts at his parents' home, and I open a gift from him. It was three big packs of socks! One pack was Nightmare Before Christmas themed(which we saw a 3D release on our first real date back in '06!!), and the other two were also Disney themed, which I love! I thought the gesture was so sweet, especially since he had noticed I had holey socks and wanted to get me more, let alone get me themed socks that he knew I would love!
And now, every morning when I grab a pair and put them on, I am already having a wonderful day because I am reminded of his thoughtfulness and how much he cares for me. It's such a great way to start my day!
I hope you don't mind my bragging :) I would love to hear any fun and thoughtful gifts from your husbands/SOs because I know how much we love speaking highly of our men. It warms my heart to share this experience with you all, and would very much enjoy some more warmth from all of you!
edit: Thanks to all who have commented so far. I woke up this morning with so many of your wonderful memories in my inbox, and my heart just melted! I'm having a rough day, and reading about these touching moments is really helping me feel better, so thank you!

I hadn't been to cirque du soleil since i was probably 7 or 8 years old. It ended up coming to my area. I sighed longingly at the posters and lamented at the price.
Well, he bought tickets and surprised me before Christmas. He totally had me off track too, i thought he was bringing me elsewhere until we turned the corner!
Obviously it was amazing, but the memory with him is even better.
We were also planning a trip to Maui, but I was stressing out about the cost. He ended up surprising me with the plane ticket for my birthday. We just got back and made the most awesome memories of my life.
Seriously, i feel so undeserving of his kindness. I need to work extra hard to be the best person i can be for him!
aTweetingBird 10y ago
Wow!! How special!! And so romantic - both trips!

A couple of years ago for Christmas my SO got me a dog charm for my charm bracelet. My father is severely allergic to animals so I was never able to have any sort of pet. The charm is a little silver Labrador ( the type of dog that I has always wanted) and said that since we couldn't get a dog yet, he got me the next best thing.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
Oh! How sweet is that!!

My husband bought me a heated toilet seat for Christmas one year because that winter I had started making a tiny yelp whenever my behind hit the freezing cold seat. He would laugh when he heard me and yell out "Cold?", and we would giggle at my ridiculousness.
I've told him many times how much I really appreciated that gift and how sweet he was to pay attention.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
Nice! That's totally a gift I would love!

My man also got me socks :). It's an idea that sounds boring at first but he has really good taste in clothes and they were the kind I would have never gotten for myself: fun, colorful, and high-quality. I've never been the type to treat myself with fun garments like that so I really appreciated it. It's been a couple years and I still wear them regularly.

My husband does woodworking and it's pretty freakin awesome to see what he makes for me. My favorite was the guitar stand.

I once mentioned how much I love tea sets when my SO and I were watching Downton Abbey. For my birthday, he bought an entire DINNERWARE set specifically for the tea pot/set. I thought it was funny and super sweet when I found out. Now when I have tea/coffee I feel all fancy and feminine. It's a beautiful pattern and now I have matching bowls and plates for entertaining! :)
aTweetingBird 10y ago
How awesome! I bet the set is just gorgeous!
readlovegrow 10y ago
I'd love a tea set as well. A couple of my friends and I would go to a local victorian tea house for special occasions (like my baby shower) until they closed. Now, I wish I could have a tea set of my own and maybe get my friends back... or maybe get new friends who are married, with kids, and also like tea. :)

My husband bought me an electronic device one year for my birthday. He charged it the night before then put it back in the box which I thought was quite symbolic of how he thinks of the things that no one else thinks of. He's awesome.

I'm currently single, but my ex once bought me a book in a language that I was learning, and was his native language. It was a book that he'd read a few years prior when he was my age, and was very important to him. The relationship didn't work out, but I still have the book and think fondly of him when I see it.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
Aw, that's very sweet!

I had briefly mentioned to my husband awhile ago that I was thinking of learning how to knit because I thought it would be a fun hobby. I didn't think anything of it until he came home from his last business trip with a beginners knitting kit for me. I was so touched that he remembered my comment, but also went out of his way to find it for me.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
How loving!! That's so great!

Just a little while ago he came home with a build your own fairy garden kit. I had mentioned a long time ago that I can't wait for the girls to be old enough to make fairy gardens (something I remember spending hours doing as a child).
So he bought me one to do myself since it'll be a while before they outgrow their destroying stage and start their creating stage :P
aTweetingBird 10y ago
That is so sweet! A fairy garden kit sounds so awesome! I didn't know that a was a thing! I'll have to get one :)

My ex bought me a graphics card for my birthday last year (hear me out).
I'd just spent a reasonable amount of money building a desktop computer that I could run my engineering programs on but also that I could game on. GTA V was about to come out and I was gutted because I couldn't afford both a graphics card and the deposit for my new flat... Birthday rolls around and I realised he hadn't asked what I wanted so when he handed me the present I was a little worried!! When I opened it the box was empty - he'd already put it in the computer for me :) incredibly thoughtful and still incredibly useful!!

I use to play The Sims 3 (lowest resolution) on an old laptop and I mentioned wanting to play SimCity 2000, but my computer was too old and kinda dying, so my husband bought me a whole new desktop PC with a nice graphics card (he bought the game, too) just so I could play the one game. :]
Then I had a baby and stopped playing all together :(
But now it's the "family" computer and it holds the two million pictures I've taken of our son and family just fine. :)
aTweetingBird 10y ago
Love this! That's so great that he installed it and everything! My husband just built a new computer and got a really nice graphics card, so I understand the difference a good one can make!

Once, my ex bought me a small food chopper for Christmas. It was the first time I had ever received a "practical" gift from a man, so at first I was a bit angry that it wasn't "romantic".
Finally, after a few days of me giving him the cold shoulder, he said he bought it because he knew that I hate chopping onions but love using them. Then he reminded me that he didn't really like onions, I was the one who was always adding them in my salads, chili, etc. Basically, it was a completely selfless gift.
When he told me why he bought it, I felt like a fool and it taught me an important lesson in appreciation.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
A very nice gesture, especially once you realized it was such a selfless gift. I'm glad you were able to learn from the experience!

I love the pagan necklace SO got for me one year ago. He bought it in a street stand. It has so much meaning for me because he is atheist(?) but still respects my pagan beliefs.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
How nice! What a special gift :)

It is! He knows me so well!! :)

I had mentioned to my SO that one time I saw on the Food Network this restaurant that has a Toasted Marshmallow milkshake and that I wound up taking a 4 hour bus ride that day to go get one. It was just an offhanded comment but he started picking out all of the toasted marshmallow jelly beans out of this HUGE jelly bean bag his kids got him for Christmas and putting them into a little baggie for me. It didn't dawn on me that he was doing this until I asked. His reply "I listen". I was like wow. I don't think I would have remembered such a small detail.

[deleted] 10y ago
No. It was a place called The stand in New York.
classy_lassy23 10y ago
Aw, that's sweet! And some hardcore dedication. The "I listen" response must be common among our men because mine says it too when I ask how he knew I liked a specific thing and then he surprises me with it months later.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
That's so nice!! Very, very sweet of him to do that for you!

I had told A that I loved reading this book 'Balloonia' when I was a child and reminisced about the story line to him. He bought me a copy of the book for my birthday. It was such a meaningful thing to me that he picked up on it, I have the book on my desk and get to be reminded of it every day.

How precious! That's so wonderful!

The only leather stretching that's worked for me is blasting the hair dryer on the leather while I'm wearing them (to the point where I was burning my feet with the heat, even with socks on). I did the hair dryer for probably around 5 minutes on one shoe, then switched feet - about 5 minutes blowing hot on the other shoe. Then leave them on your feet for the next hour or so and try to walk around the house a lot. This loosened up some flats that I had tried breaking in the usual 'wear them a little here and there' way for months with no luck.
TempestTcup 10y ago
Ive had good luck with rubbing alcohol. Wearing socks, soak where it needs to be stretched with some rubbing alcohol and walk around/wear them for a while. This article says freezing might work.
littleteafox 10y ago
What about something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-EasyComforts-Shoe-Stretcher/dp/B00O5KUGW8/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1454607517&sr=8-3&keywords=shoe+stretcher
aTweetingBird 10y ago
How sweet!! The only secret I know of is to put bags of water in the shoes, and then stick them in the freezer and that might help expand them. I've never tried it, though!
[deleted] 10y ago
That is so sweet!my SO works like a dog and often feels that he "neglects" me because of his schedule. (I totally disagree, but whatever ). The last two times I've gone to get my hair done, when I get to the counter the associate told me it was already taken care of. He had his card put on file. So touching. Now when I get a haircut I'm reminded of my honey love :)))
aTweetingBird 10y ago
That is so thoughtful! That also must have felt awesome the first time the associate told you it was taken care of!
[deleted] 10y ago
I cried because Im a baby - hah! He's a good one :)

I come into this thread and I'm just blown away by the level of gratefulness here
aTweetingBird 10y ago
My heart is bursting! I feel that receiving graciously and gratefully is a great RPW trait. It is very obvious from these stories that we are so thankful for the men in our lives.

Christmas present I loved-- my amazing husband put all of the music stuck on my old iPods and iPhone onto my newest iPhone (I lost a CD book and changed laptops, so ended up with different iTunes lists). Free for him, fantastic for me! Incidentally-- it turns out that you can buy a machine that converts old tapes and records into MP3 files to be loaded into iTunes. So I also got to hear a "demo tape" (heh) from his screamy college "punk band". Very cool.
aTweetingBird 10y ago
That's very sweet! That's also cute about his demo tape! How fun :)

LadyOneEarth 10y ago
I'm sorry for your current boyfriend too because it seems you'll upgrade again if things go sour and he loses his job/money.
Ps: Anyone can pick something expensive, but a thoughtful gift has a meaning to it.
[deleted]
LadyOneEarth 10y ago
Have fun at the Ritz!!! I'm happy you found someone who could spend money on you (since you seem so ungrateful towards good intentions alone).
Just remember that because your boyfriend has money to spend on luxury items, not every man has. Some people have families, some are on minimum wage and some have 3 kids.
Some women get socks and are happy about it because that's what they needed and they are frugal. Others want their man to waste money on luxury items because they can afford it.
Not everyone is the same but ungratefulness in general is just not attractive. Makes me wonder how you'll do if things go sour. :) Just saying!!
[deleted]
LadyOneEarth 10y ago
Good for you!! Then you can afford the jewelry and what not.
Bashing your ex because he probably gave you what he had, what he could afford, is just ungrateful in general.
He also celebrated his first year with a new girl in a place he could afford.
Ever heard of that thing that says "I gave you 10$ because I only had 10$, he gave you 20$ but he had 100$". See what I'm trying to say?
