She cheated on me because "I cheated on her", I went out with a female friend I've known for 8 years, her boyfriend, and a few other mates. She cheated on me literally in the 4 hours I was gone...
Lol something similar happened to me too. Should have seen it coming. She didnt like me hanging out with my female friends, but had no issues of her meeting her exes....
This reminds me of a bit of Chris rock in his stand up where he says where it's okay for women to have platonic friends and men can't cause all she needs is a chance or a reason.

I Plan how to get there (city breaks e.g.) make any bookings
I Drive there as DD
I Pick where "we" went
Have meal paid for
Get home and give wife money was short after paying for meal
If it was a gift birthday, I had to say what I wanted , One year I asked for a day to myself
It was Bliss .........
The last birthday I had with my now ex, I made it clear I wasn't picking anything, the night ended with being locked out of a hotel room after walking around the city for 5 hours in the cold waiting for her to pick "anywhere"
When I snapped with hanger near midnight and said "just fucking choose" got locked out of room then she ran off into city at 2 am suitcase packed with no money and couldn't drive , came back 20 mins later and didn't speak to me for a month
I remember the last birthday I had with my ex. Now it makes sense since the entire time I was with her she ruined most of my birthdays. Like almost every one when we were dating or married. One birthday she planned some friends to go to a bar but that was it.
The last birthday I had - and this is after not getting a BJ in over two years - was her saying “well if you want a blowjob we have to do it know because I have things I have to do”. For the record I didn’t want to take it but she said if I don’t she’ll never give me one again. It was the worst. Turns out I inver got one from her again because we ended the marriage so I should have seen the writing in the wall.
Even Father’s Day was a shit show. We’d truck out to her dads house and just sit there and I’m like, I’m a father I don’t want to do that. I just want to stay here and not deal with entertaining anyone else. Never happened. I remember the last Father’s Day I had being married and I’m sitting there holding my kid in the kitchen crying because I was severely depressed. She looked me in the face and said are you done yet? Because we have to get going.
Seriously made me feel like a piece of crap. Even with the girl I’m dating now, I set up a golf trip and a hotair balloon ride and all sorts of things. What did I get? Nothing. Last year she got me concert tickets which is cool but it seems like as time goes in it doesn’t matter. I’ve resigned myself to the fact when it comes to your days you’re on your own. You’re responsible for your own happiness as it is, so don’t expect anyone to give a shit about you as a guy when it’s Father’s Day or your birthday because they don’t.
Like you said, you're responsible for your own happiness. It would be amazing to have someone who's not you there to do their best to make you happy, and i hope you get that one day. But until then? Turn your phone off and go do whatever er it is you want for yourself. Tell your SO how you feel about this stuff and if they understand and try and do better, great! If they don't, at least you'll already have yourself taken care of. My last birthday earlier this year? I wanted to try Japanese kobe/wagyu, and I was fully prepared to go all by myself and I was really looking forward to it. One of my best friends wanted to tag along and drive and stuff so it worked out great but if no one else wanted to be there I already had myself taken care of. It's nice to be able to rely on others but it's also nice to know that you got yourself covered.
TL:DR Revealed cheating daughter to her friends and her mother who divorced from a cheating husband
It was about 2 years in our relationship at this point IIRC. Not gonna lie I was thinking marriage maybe. Went to a college football game where S.O. had made a couple comments about feeling weird on the way there. I offered to get her something light instead of nachos. (I paid for the tickets and the food) We ate, and she suddenly had to go to the bathroom afterwards. It was really odd of her when she refused my help but said she would have her best friend bring her home instead.
I chalked it up to embarrassment over her period perhaps. Gave her the benefit of the doubt. My other friends were there, some in different seats. I soon got texts of her on another dude, sitting on his lap smiling, kissing, and having a good time. I got a text from S.O. saying she got home safe and is lying down watching the game.
I enjoyed the rest of the game with my friends, I kept the pictures for later. I called her after the game was over, but not before the crowd left, mysteriously she did not pick up. I then called the home phone to make sure she was okay, and her mother answered and said S.O. was not home and thought she was with me. (Her mother just got divorced from a cheating husband, so it was part of my plan)
After explaining what happened, her mom said she'd call S.O.s best friend and see if she was there. Best friend confirms S.O. is not there.
I texted S.O. back, and said "hey I called your house to make sure you were okay and your mom said you weren't home. What's going on?" This could have been a great time to come clean, why cheaters don't I have no idea. "Oh, I'm at my friends place. She's keeping me company"
I screenshotted my S.O.s texts, and started a group chat with her, her mom, a few of her friends and me. I posted all the evidence. To put the icing on the cake I said "Ms. S.O.'s mom, I am truly sorry you had to live with a cheater. Unfortunately suffering through your divorce did not affect your daughter at all, I guess cheating runs in the family."
I didn't respond to the group for awhile as I was driving home, but my phone was exploding with texts. Her mother was extremely pissed. "You saw what I went through and you think this is okay?! I raised you better than this!" Her friends were a mixed bag, but I guess they didn't know the mom would call them shitty human beings for encouraging this behavior. Can't be mad at cheaters, it's not your fault they can't be honest with you.
This is probably the actual answer, I don’t know why everybody is just upvoting totally true stories about how women are making false rape claims over being told no
The idea that a man shouldn’t accept anything from anybody (directions, gifts, advice in general) out of self reliance or whatever BS they tell you can definitely translate to entire days where people are supposed to give you gifts or just general praise and it makes a lot of men uncomfortable.
The person in the OP image is just buying into this idea that women are the root problem of everything when it’s not the case, like why would he have to make up a hypothetical request from her when he could just say “it makes me uncomfortable and I don’t know why” or something like that? It’s like a defensive mechanism to avoid having to say you’d be uncomfortable lol there it goes again with the “you can’t show weakness” mentality like it all feeds into itself
That comment was about how mao fucked up during the great leap forwards implementation so i wouldn’t really say that’s defending him but you’re entitled to your opinion. Also how far back are you reading into my comment history that conversation was several comments back in my shit
I also never said anything about men treating women a certain way or anything like that I feel like you’re not even talking to me but yourself right now. I’m sorry I don’t believe everything I read on the internet when it comes to a story like that chill out
Have fun with that argument with yourself I’d prefer to stay on topic if it’s ok with you? You totally disregarded the last paragraph of my comment after I was skeptical of a reddit story and now you’re doing personal attacks about a comment I made 2 days ago, do you actually care about the discussion or are you just personally upset with me about something?
You're being snarky and dismissive to guys who are posting their experiences in one of the last places that will allow them to share without getting attacked.
Isn’t this the sub where we get to talk about false accusations? Now you’re gonna make a false claim on me, a man. Pretty anti male if you ask me dude, I’m not a Maoist at all I had a discussion about the actual number of people he killed being hard to accurately determine, because the range of numbers I’ve seen attributed to him are very wide.
If that makes me a Maoist to you then that’s ok because you just don’t understand what you’re talking about, and I really don’t give a fuck what you think as a result.
Doesn’t change the fact that nobody has yet to address my actual point it’s like you guys are averse to examine societies role in male gender roles and would rather talk about false rape accusations and how entitled women are. Men’s rights lmao what a joke
Most of my birthdays were shared with my cousin and ruined by my mother and grandmother. My grandmother wanted every event to be PERFECT and got upset when it wasn't. It never was. She would act like it was her birthday. My family would always argue, act stressed and put out by it, and my grandmother once screamed at my grandfather and threatened to divorce him right before my party and in front of me. They've always been stressful, disappointing, and more trouble than they're worth. It may disappoint my SO that I don't like celebrating my birthday, but I have what I think is a good reason.
At least you got to share the day. My birthday is April 24th, I've got a cousin in California that shares the day but we hardly see her. My younger brother was supposed to be born the 24th, but was born the 30th (doc said 'not yet', so he was 9 pounds at birth.) Instead of celebrating 2 birthdays a week apart, or sucking it up and having a shared birthday on the weekend set between the two dates... My birthday was kicked to the first week of April. So every time I'd invite people from school to my birthday party, no one would show because they thought it was an 'April fools day' prank...
I'd say the real answer is that men know that when celebrating their birthday there will inevitably be people involved that they don't like. I would rather hang out with one of my friends than six of my friends and one person I don't like.
If you want to get the family together to do something that's fine but if you're wondering what I want to do on my birthday it doesn't involve anyone other than close friends and family. If my friend's wife is a bitch then I don't want to talk to her on my birthday.
First gf at 17 decided I was never going to leave her she wanted to get married I had no such plans. Next she decides we're having kids whether i want to or not without telling me. Stops taking birth control and gets pregnant.
Of course I split. I'm not being forced to stay trapped to someone who plans to coerce me to staying with them and forces me to have kids with them. No woman would stay with a man that tried that.
Now years later coming after me for child support and fucking up the life I've been trying to build.
She abused me into trying to live with her and marry her and have kids and give her everything SHE wanted.
Fucked up women can have this level of abusive power over men and it's fine and legal. Women baby trapping men is a move used everyday.
And it's legal. And men have no right to choose parenthood. Yet constantly hear about "it's a women's right to choose" how about it's a "human beings right to choose"
What about the other half of the population? We get no right to choose. Women can try to abuse and force men to marry them stay with them and have kids and it's all good??
If a guy used force or coerced a women to marry him and have his kids, he would be jailed and there would be a huge media crusade we would never heard the end of.
Well of course. Cause marriage is a losing game, for only men. While marriage completely benefits even in almost every single way. Her life is improved when married. Extra income, someone that can't leave her without paying her. Someone that has to basically follow her every order or she can make up a lie and the courts will favor her just because she is a women. While men get extra bills, kids, a nagging wife, lost to their main bank account, lost ownership to everything to buy from the time after marriage. Everything you buy is technically hers as well. And they for sure will take it when they divorce yall.
Its always a win win situation for females in marriage. Married they get benefits and after the divorce they usually always get money and other things and can limit the time the fathers spend with the children. While men get all those extra headaches and bills. And after divorce sometimes got to end up paying alimony for the rest of their life along with child support, and the lost of most of their possessions. And most of the time they lose the house to. Lol
All good points. I really do think 9 times out of 10 it's a win-win for women to marry.
And it's a lose-lose for men to marry. The only case it isn't is the rare ones where she makes much more money. The vast majority is men losing their livligood and everything else.
And it is bull courts heavily HEAVILY favor women.
It's because of all these reasons and more I would never marry. Marriage is a sham.
Insecure people feel they need to lock someone down to be never be alone, but that's a lie. Divorce is way to common.
Nothing is gained from being married. A expensive party. Empty shallow promises, gaudy vein jewellery, a legally binding certificate. All for what? Married couples don't actually gain ANYTHING from being married. Maybe just a false sense of security.
And some publicly acknowledged commitment. And a bunch of consequences if they split.
The ceremony, cheesyness and fakeness of weddings make me physically ill.
Highschool ex broke up with me the weekend of my birthday as my only present that year. I had told my parents I didn’t want to have a party or anything if they’d just let me have one night to hang out with my girlfriend at this big outdoor garden thing. Spent the entire night together, had a lot of fun and everything. Took her home and then she texts me to break up with me. Texts. Saying since she would be moving away six months from then that she didn’t want to put me through that stress. She proceeded to date three more guys in that short time and supposedly got suspended for having sex with one in school.
Funny. I've had SO many girls do this to me. At least 3 or 4. They tell you "I'm actually not ready for relationship in my life right now" or an ex who I was seeing for 7 months then tell me "well you're going to college an hour away from me so I don't think it's going to work out if its long distance". They ALL proceeded to have long term SO right after, 2 of which had met on Tinder. Meaning she probably was on Tinder, matching and talking with guys as we were together/talking. Women will absolutely eat you and spit you back out if you aren't PERFECTLY what they want.
Women will expect men to be perfect, but then gets ENRAGED when you even consider a possibility that they aren't perfect. Hypocrisy.
I've seen an instance where a woman claimed her husband was the perfect husband, then exposed herself with an article called "my perfect affair" where she just casually cheated on her husband with one of his coworkers, almost got found out, and then still continued to do it anyway. You just can't win because you can't be literally everything they want at that exact moment.
I'm a gay dude and it has happened to me as well. Two or three guys have rejected me with the "not looking for anything long term right now" and find the love of their life shortly afterwards.
I've gotten to the conclusion that it's more like "not ready, unless it's the right person".
Man my mom had a great tantrum on Christmas in 2014 (less than a year before the divorce). Every year prior dad always got mom at the very least a nice piece of jewelry that he hid on the tree. A necklace or a ring, a fancy bracelet or new set of ear-rings. Always worth a pretty penny. Sometimes he'd make her do a scavenger hunt through the 3000sq foot house (it was the best) but 9 times out of 10, it was hidden on the tree and the hunt was just clues to locate it.
Anyway, 2014 we were gonna lose our house, (mom and her 100 dollar shirts and jeans she wore twice...) so there wasn't much money to spare. I'd saved up to get something nice for my 2 little brothers (minecraft for the 360, wrapped in duct tape, I made them find the disc.) A new wallet and a Disturbed album for my dad, and replacement heels/boots for mom (I put the old boots in the box to see her reaction).
Mom had up and down demanded that since there wasn't enough money, she didn't want dad to spend money on her and rather spend it on us kids (admirable, right? pfft). She said it almost all year, so when Christmas came, dad had a pile of bodywash, cologne, a new trimmer, new jammies, and new duck slippers (basically she spent more on him than she did on us...). Then was piss shit irritated that he got nothing for her. She was so mad about it she locked herself in their bedroom for the rest of the day... Dad made pancakes, boys started a 'poor mans server' on minecraft, and I set up my Covenant Halo legos in a battle scene on my dresser, after we watched the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Blissful silence. Best present we ever got from her.
you're lucky, my ex forgot my birthday every single frigging year. Had to put an alarm on her phone to remind her ( and she still forgot). I even managed to find an unsigned birthday card in the cupboard in the final year ( even after I had reminded her).
This makes me realize how much my parents actually care for eachother my dad will get something nice for my mom's birthday and she'll get something equally as nice for him
This. My wife asked what I want for Father’s Day. Nothing. Anything I want I’ll go buy. Give me something I can’t just go buy, peace and quiet. She’s gonna take the kids and stay in a nice hotel with her family and I get 72 hours of peace and quiet.
I just had an early Father's Day present of a pedicure from my Wife.
It's greatly appreciated, however, I try to nicely reiterate that I am not her Father, and she doesn't need to do that. That is up to our children, and I don't feel the need to force acknowledgement on them.
When we first separated she asked me to pick up our daughter from a slumber party and drop her off at her house... and then texted several neighbors telling them to call the cops if they see my car because I threatened to kill her (I didn’t). The neighbors immediately looped me in because they knew she was nuts.
Being the center of attention and having people cater to us is so foreign and uncomfortable. I hate being thanked and complimented too, as a guy I love when others treat me well but don't make a scene out of it
I didnt want to go into to town to see a movie with her, so she told the cops I raped her and threatened suicide... I only saw her for about a minute that day.
I thank god every day that she went off the deep end, I've never been happier than my current life with my amazing fiancee.
See I knew it. Women know they can turn on the "damsel in distress" whenever they want something. I have a theory that women, as children, are treated so well and spoiled, that almost all of them grow up at least slightly narcissistic, if not full blown NPD. When men want something, regardless of age, they're criticized or made to feel guilty. Women are given it without even asking.
This is just an inherent flaw in our brains. We value women above men because of procreation. But why will no one admit that women have it so much easier? Instead saying that they have it worse, and it's all because of men.
It really bothers me. I feel feminism at least played a small part in my divorce. I KNOW it is the reason I can't have sole custody of my two kids. And besides that, I FEEL like women don't take responsibility for their actions, words, in general. I admit I'm generalizing. But that's just been my experience.
Mine too. Zero responsibility, and if I tried, I was "blaming." My exwife was openly misandristic and constantly complained about "men" in general even though it was just us alone for 3 years. When I'd point out that those things don't apply to me at all, she'd just get pissed off. It was extremely exhausting. Imagine being black and married to a white supremacist. It's just insane. I never once made blanket statements about women, because I was always on the back foot trying to defend myself. She also ended up cheating and lying about it for months, despite her accusing me of cheating dozens of times over our marriage. (i was never unfaithful, even emotionally)
Sorry, I work 14 hour days. I did have to spend a few hours at the local jail with a deputy repeatedly calling me a horrible person. Got a call from the county sheriff a few weeks later saying I sound like an upstanding young man that was pulled into a bad situation, and that he terminated the deputy. It was 6 years ago, and nothing stuck with me. My character was tarnished for over a year, but people actually started to believe me and side with me. I've told my story a lot, but the ex in question is still keeping up the facade that I was a horrible person. I was going crazy being with her, and she still harasses my fiancee on fake accounts about me. Usually stories from real events that are twisted and exaggerated. Just want to be left alone, but all is good!
I'm all good! Life was hell for my senior year of high school, but all of her friends and acquaintances have reached out and said they were wrong about the situation. I wish people would drop the past, but it's also nice to hear that even the most arrogant people believe me.
I took my fiance to sushi and treated him to a big meal, I feel bad that I don't have enough money to buy him the watches he really likes, but I will someday \^__\^
I hate celebrating my birthdays, I have had too many family members be poor and guilty and they end up fighting and making my day about them so I try not to celebrate it at all anymore. I just wanna cuddle with my fiance and watch movies.
That’s really sweet of you, just try not to feel bad you don’t have the money for his watches cause I guarantee you he appreciates the meal and the special treatment, it’s always great when someone unselfishly gives with no expectation of return gifts
Thank you! And I hope so, I just want him to be happy and make him laugh all the time.
I don't see gifts as transactions, I think that's dumb, one of my love languages is gift giving and if I care about someone, I wanna make or get them something that they may enjoy. I never think about what I might get in return.
Had a gf trip the hell out because I went to my cousins funeral. We are both in the USCG. I initially wasn’t going to go to the funeral because I was too broken up by her death.
So I go to the funeral it goes well. I’m having dinner with my family and other buddies from the service that attended.
I get a phone call from my GF she’s like where are you?
I tell her I’m at my cousins funeral she’s like you were supposed to hang out with me today.
I tell her well sorry but I think this is more important right now.
She starts flipping the hell out on the phone about how I’m blowing her off how I lied to her that I said I wasn’t going to the funeral etc.
She breaks up with me and hangs up the phone.
Dodged a bullet with that girl.
Met my wife about a month later and have been happily married for 8 years now.
"Oh? So you went to a family members funeral instead of Netflix and chilling with me? Well screw you!"
"Babe, it was my cousin, that just died, please understa-"
"NO! Bye!"
Yeah, you dodged a bullet. Can't believe someone could be so heartless to not understand family dying is something serious and that you shouldn't be upset by someone attending the funeral.
On my 37th birthday. I was working late came home to an empty house. It was great I smoked a joint checked on the kids at my moms. Wife comes home tells me she wants to be polyamorous. And that shes been out on her first date
I wish I made this up but it's for real. That was the day my back went out and I've been a sad man ever since. I never recovered physically or whatever. It's been 3 years in august and my back is finally starting to heal. I am finally starting to be able to exercise and run again. And I'm no slouch I took kungfu in my 20s could do all that acrobatics shit. It ruined me. But after 3 years and 70k paid to lawyers I finally have 50 50 custody.
I hate celebrating my birthday. Anyone who truly knows me, knows this. I hid my birthday at work because people would decorate your desk and make a big deal out of it. Couldn’t stand it.
One year I came in the day before my birthday and saw a card sitting on my desk. Fuck. Turns out, the 15 or so good friends I had made there got me some random card and all wrote things like “sorry for your loss, keep your chin up” and “congrats on the new bundle of joy!” It was like an anti birthday card. Best gift I’ve ever gotten.
My ex would always find a way to make herself the victim of anything. I cook all the time and I enjoy it, and one time I asked her like half jokingly if she would ever cook me dinner (because I’m over a year relationship she hadn’t once). It turned into a shitfest, and I eventually shed a few tears realizing I would never have my efforts reciprocated by her. She proceeded to halfass dinner one time like 2 weeks later and when I had a stomach ache and couldn’t finish I was the ungrateful one. Fml.
For too many people (and those of the fairer sex are most guilty of) events such as birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, baby showers and their invitations served have become a bill in disguise.
My wife just did something similar.
Our anniversary came up. She wanted to get out of the house so we ventured to a hotel a few cities away and chilled and had various fun. A week later she's telling her mom I "forgot" our anniversary since we've moved on from gifts. I'm like we seriously just dropped $1k on 'going out' and you want... more? We're breaking even this paycheck... the answer is no. We can't afford anymore. There were some things I would have liked to have gotten to we discussed but we can't afford it now that we went out so... it's not like there's only one 'loser' in that one.
My parents used to tell me not to ever get them gifts, if they needed something they'd buy it themselves to get what they really wanted. They just wanted attention on special days, cards, calls, visits, etc. I'm the same now. I can buy my own things, I don't need physical things from people to know they care, just acknowledge I'm here, maybe talk with me a bit and I'm happy as a clam.
Tryhard capitalism is so damaging to everyone and everything. Demand for birthday product here, chirstmas present there, black Friday deals at yonder and so on.
Why not let ALL employees and businesses have customizable shift work and not a set full time? Sure there will be no more customer demand rush but I would like to swim or buy gardening items and lumber at night.
Instead of making so much of a product that goes to waste, take each and every customer's product/service order and invoice them.
I'm the dick. I don't ever expect presents from anyone (and I don't want them). I'm not bringing presents to any events. I don't care if blank is expensive, it was your choice to make. For birthdays I'll bring food and beer. For weddings I'll buy clothes and bring me, you can have the clothes after if you want. I won't wear them till the next marriage!
I'm the dick. I don't ever expect presents from anyone (and I don't want them). I'm not bringing presents to any events. I don't care if blank is expensive, it was your choice to make.
This is honestly the way I feel about gifts. When I give a gift it's because wanted you to have something. I am owed nothing for it. When you give me a gift, I regard it the same way. I owe you nothing for it. Gifts are not exchanges of obligation.
Growing up, until I was around 7 or so, life was normal. Then I became a target of bullying. I lost all of my friends, so I never had anymore birthday parties with friends. As I got older, it was just my mom getting me a cake and that's it, because I wouldn't get new clothes until school started (my birthday was always at the end of the school year) because we didn't have enough money to buy things for both. So I always waited a few months for "birthday gifts" which doubled as "back to school" stuff.
So as an adult, I just don't care so much for them. My wife wants to celebrate and do stuff for me, but I just don't care about it. I'm fine with just sitting and doing nothing. It's just another day for me, and I appreciate her wanting to allow me to do what I want, whether that's going out somewhere, or just staying home.
i know we're going for crazy bitches but my first boyfriend was a crazy bitch so i think it counts. we ate garlic bread, dude asks me if he smells, yes you smell of garlic. huge tantrum. dude was 21 lmao
Because it’s just another day. Not kids anymore, just an excuse for people to get drunk. Happens every weekend anyways. My mom wants it more than I do.
My grandpa (who raised me) died on my 15th birthday. Also as an only child with divorced parents who were both dirt poor, I always felt awful watching them try to scrape together enough to do something for my birthday so I'd rather just not get anything or do anything.
Birthdays are designed for people under the age of 18. In general they are not special. Millions of people were born on the same day as you. its just a physical process that happened.
why do people want to be congratulated for it? you want to be congratulated for one day dying?
a 5 year old child celebrating a birthday I get maybe because the mortality rate of children in the olden days used to be high so it is celebrating another year closer to maturation and adulthood.
a 5 year old child celebrating a birthday I get maybe because the mortality rate of children in the olden days used to be high so it is celebrating another year closer to maturation and adulthood.
You sound fun. Birthdays are a celebration of the person. It's a way of saying 'I'm glad you're around and I get to spend time with you, here's a cake. Have some fun'.
For some people it's also the time to thank their parents for conceiving and giving birth to them. One of my aunts sends my grandma a card basically thanking her for being born. Not in a sarcastic way, but a legit thank you. When my mom found out about the idea, she demanded it of me and my brothers. (If she'd been half the 'mother' our grandma is, I might have considered it..)
I love gifts, I also think birthdays are dumb. Maybe this is just me, but why are we celebrating the day we were born? It’s not that big a deal. We have way too much of our culture centered around birthdays.
people love reasons to have parties and from what I've seen older people instead of asking to hang out with others will invent a reason to have a party
I've never understood this from anyone. A birthday is meant to be your day... You get (within means/reason) what you want. Yet people STILL expect people to get them random shit. Well then you get fucking socks...
This has literally never happened to me, there has never been a birthday that I don't know what I want months or even a year in advance.
Sure that's fine. My list is too long for that. I can have dinner with people any time. Also none of my mates exchange gifts, this is family only. partner/parents/siblings/grand parents etc.
This is pretty much the state of the men's rights community. They did get a post to the front page last year that was something more than complaining, which was neat to see.
You really seem to be the problematic one in relationships. My gf and I are getting married at the end of this year after being best buddies for 2 years and a couple for 4 years after that. All that time we always asked what the other one needed or wanted and it always went well.
Not how it works? So I'm supposed to guess or some shit? Nah man. I prefer they tell me, so I know exactly what to get them. I'd hate to get them something I'd think they love only for them to hate it. Gifts are complicated for some of us, and it takes a world of hurt off our shoulders if they just tell us what they want

She cheated on me because "I cheated on her", I went out with a female friend I've known for 8 years, her boyfriend, and a few other mates. She cheated on me literally in the 4 hours I was gone...

Nearly every birthday I had
Get up receive socks and deodorant from kids
I Pick where I want to go
I Plan how to get there (city breaks e.g.) make any bookings
I used that month planning divorce :)
dumnem 3y ago
Most women are constitutionally incapable of making a choice, with the obvious exception of assigning blame.
djc_tech 3y ago
You’re responsible for your own happiness as it is, so don’t expect anyone to give a shit about you as a guy when it’s Father’s Day or your birthday because they don’t.
sensuallyprimitive 3y ago
unconditional love is gendered lol
MaizeBeast01 3y ago

It’s like a defensive mechanism to avoid having to say you’d be uncomfortable lol there it goes again with the “you can’t show weakness” mentality like it all feeds into itself
asdfman2000 3y ago
I know, right? How DARE men discuss difficulties in their life in a forum created for just such a thing!
What they should be doing is talking about how it's MEN'S fault the WOMEN in their life treat them like shit.
^/s
Checking your post history of defending Mao, it's not surprising. Someone who defends mass murderers isn't exactly capable of empathy.
ZSCroft 3y ago
That comment was about how mao fucked up during the great leap forwards implementation so i wouldn’t really say that’s defending him but you’re entitled to your opinion. Also how far back are you reading into my comment history that conversation was several comments back in my shit
I also never said anything about men treating women a certain way or anything like that I feel like you’re not even talking to me but yourself right now. I’m sorry I don’t believe everything I read on the internet when it comes to a story like that chill out
asdfman2000 3y ago
Not even halfway down your user page.
Don't you have some intellectuals, scholars, and students to line up against a wall?
ZSCroft 3y ago
Have fun with that argument with yourself I’d prefer to stay on topic if it’s ok with you? You totally disregarded the last paragraph of my comment after I was skeptical of a reddit story and now you’re doing personal attacks about a comment I made 2 days ago, do you actually care about the discussion or are you just personally upset with me about something?
asdfman2000 3y ago
You're being snarky and dismissive to guys who are posting their experiences in one of the last places that will allow them to share without getting attacked.
You don't deserve goodnatured engagement.
ZSCroft 3y ago
Ah you are their champion, my mistake
Shopping_Mart 3y ago
okay, maoist
ZSCroft 3y ago

It may disappoint my SO that I don't like celebrating my birthday, but I have what I think is a good reason.
dumnem 3y ago
Why not do something small but just between the two of you? That seems to be the best compromise available.
KnightWulfy 3y ago

TheWinterStar 3y ago
At least you got to share the day. My birthday is April 24th, I've got a cousin in California that shares the day but we hardly see her. My younger brother was supposed to be born the 24th, but was born the 30th (doc said 'not yet', so he was 9 pounds at birth.) Instead of celebrating 2 birthdays a week apart, or sucking it up and having a shared birthday on the weekend set between the two dates... My birthday was kicked to the first week of April. So every time I'd invite people from school to my birthday party, no one would show because they thought it was an 'April fools day' prank...
KnightWulfy 3y ago
Jeez, dude. Need a hug? <3
TheWinterStar 3y ago
yes... Thank the internet lords that a virtual hug is still practicing social distancing!
KnightWulfy 3y ago

Achack 3y ago
I'd say the real answer is that men know that when celebrating their birthday there will inevitably be people involved that they don't like. I would rather hang out with one of my friends than six of my friends and one person I don't like.
If you want to get the family together to do something that's fine but if you're wondering what I want to do on my birthday it doesn't involve anyone other than close friends and family. If my friend's wife is a bitch then I don't want to talk to her on my birthday.
simjanes2k 3y ago
I've actually never had a woman snap at me for inadequate gifts on a holiday. Guess I lucked out.
Mycroft033 3y ago
You did lol, or you picked your woman well.
thetruemask 3y ago
If a guy used force or coerced a women to marry him and have his kids, he would be jailed and there would be a huge media crusade we would never heard the end of.
nakari821 3y ago
Lol
thetruemask 3y ago
Gandalf-has-no-feet 3y ago
Highschool ex broke up with me the weekend of my birthday as my only present that year. I had told my parents I didn’t want to have a party or anything if they’d just let me have one night to hang out with my girlfriend at this big outdoor garden thing. Spent the entire night together, had a lot of fun and everything. Took her home and then she texts me to break up with me. Texts. Saying since she would be moving away six months from then that she didn’t want to put me through that stress. She proceeded to date three more guys in that short time and supposedly got suspended for having sex with one in school.
wanderguy2020 3y ago
Hypocrisy.
MBV-09-C 3y ago
I've seen an instance where a woman claimed her husband was the perfect husband, then exposed herself with an article called "my perfect affair" where she just casually cheated on her husband with one of his coworkers, almost got found out, and then still continued to do it anyway. You just can't win because you can't be literally everything they want at that exact moment.
MarsNirgal 3y ago
I'm a gay dude and it has happened to me as well. Two or three guys have rejected me with the "not looking for anything long term right now" and find the love of their life shortly afterwards.
I've gotten to the conclusion that it's more like "not ready, unless it's the right person".
TheWinterStar 3y ago
Best present we ever got from her.
rahsoft 3y ago
you're lucky, my ex forgot my birthday every single frigging year. Had to put an alarm on her phone to remind her ( and she still forgot). I even managed to find an unsigned birthday card in the cupboard in the final year ( even after I had reminded her).

But did I ever forget hers? nope...

Perfect! She's a keeper.
I just had an early Father's Day present of a pedicure from my Wife.
It's greatly appreciated, however, I try to nicely reiterate that I am not her Father, and she doesn't need to do that. That is up to our children, and I don't feel the need to force acknowledgement on them.

Instead saying that they have it worse, and it's all because of men.
sensuallyprimitive 3y ago
try talking about female egos on a normal sub. lmao. the results are actually amazing.
LEGALinSCCCA 3y ago
It really bothers me. I feel feminism at least played a small part in my divorce. I KNOW it is the reason I can't have sole custody of my two kids. And besides that, I FEEL like women don't take responsibility for their actions, words, in general. I admit I'm generalizing. But that's just been my experience.
sensuallyprimitive 3y ago
Norgaarden 3y ago
Did anything happen to you from her false accusations?
pcbfbas 3y ago
Roary93 3y ago
We both know, that with no reply, the answer is no. Nothing ever happens to false accusers
Norgaarden 3y ago

Queen_Luna_Moor 3y ago
So basically,
TheEpicPancake2556 3y ago
What a shitty day that would've been... glad it ended well at least.

Tony: Because he dodges bullets, Avi.

Because you don't have to like birthdays...
magicmikefx 3y ago
On my 37th birthday. I was working late came home to an empty house. It was great I smoked a joint checked on the kids at my moms. Wife comes home tells me she wants to be polyamorous. And that shes been out on her first date I wish I made this up but it's for real. But after 3 years and 70k paid to lawyers I finally have 50 50 custody.
slowsuby 3y ago
I hate celebrating my birthday. Anyone who truly knows me, knows this. I hid my birthday at work because people would decorate your desk and make a big deal out of it. Couldn’t stand it.
One year I came in the day before my birthday and saw a card sitting on my desk. Fuck. Turns out, the 15 or so good friends I had made there got me some random card and all wrote things like “sorry for your loss, keep your chin up” and “congrats on the new bundle of joy!” It was like an anti birthday card. Best gift I’ve ever gotten.
Matt_the_Alien 3y ago
My ex would always find a way to make herself the victim of anything. I cook all the time and I enjoy it, and one time I asked her like half jokingly if she would ever cook me dinner (because I’m over a year relationship she hadn’t once). It turned into a shitfest, and I eventually shed a few tears realizing I would never have my efforts reciprocated by her. She proceeded to halfass dinner one time like 2 weeks later and when I had a stomach ache and couldn’t finish I was the ungrateful one. Fml.
Cutler369 3y ago
For too many people (and those of the fairer sex are most guilty of) events such as birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, baby showers and their invitations served have become a bill in disguise.
pm_me_your_buttbulge 3y ago
My wife just did something similar. Our anniversary came up. She wanted to get out of the house so we ventured to a hotel a few cities away and chilled and had various fun. A week later she's telling her mom I "forgot" our anniversary since we've moved on from gifts. I'm like we seriously just dropped $1k on 'going out' and you want... more? We're breaking even this paycheck... the answer is no. We can't afford anymore. There were some things I would have liked to have gotten to we discussed but we can't afford it now that we went out so... it's not like there's only one 'loser' in that one.
Sprucecaboose2 3y ago
My parents used to tell me not to ever get them gifts, if they needed something they'd buy it themselves to get what they really wanted. They just wanted attention on special days, cards, calls, visits, etc. I'm the same now. I can buy my own things, I don't need physical things from people to know they care, just acknowledge I'm here, maybe talk with me a bit and I'm happy as a clam.
RedSamuraiMan 3y ago
Tryhard capitalism is so damaging to everyone and everything. Demand for birthday product here, chirstmas present there, black Friday deals at yonder and so on.
Why not let ALL employees and businesses have customizable shift work and not a set full time? Sure there will be no more customer demand rush but I would like to swim or buy gardening items and lumber at night.
Instead of making so much of a product that goes to waste, take each and every customer's product/service order and invoice them.
The_Kids_Lying 3y ago
People have like 4 baby-related events before the baby is even born! It's ridiculous! It's not our job to finance your life choices!
Shingoneimad 3y ago
Yeah it's getting a little obnoxious
slowsuby 3y ago
I’m happy to give baby gifts to those on their first, but it drives me insane seeing baby showers for 2nd, 3rd, etc babies.
upsidedownbackwards 3y ago
I'm the dick. I don't ever expect presents from anyone (and I don't want them). I'm not bringing presents to any events. I don't care if blank is expensive, it was your choice to make. For birthdays I'll bring food and beer. For weddings I'll buy clothes and bring me, you can have the clothes after if you want. I won't wear them till the next marriage!
Cryhavok101 3y ago
This is honestly the way I feel about gifts. When I give a gift it's because wanted you to have something. I am owed nothing for it. When you give me a gift, I regard it the same way. I owe you nothing for it. Gifts are not exchanges of obligation.
Mycroft033 3y ago
You uh, you can keep the clothes
SaltySkeletor18 3y ago
One time I bought my ex 30 $ bear, some chocolates and some flowers. I got cologne. that relationship did not work out.

Ex would freak out if I even had a Woman's name in a Text thread. Needless to say that didn't last very long.
WhitePigeon1986 3y ago
I've never been a huge fan of birthdays.

I like celebrating my Bday. It depends with who. I don't mind receiving socks. I recommend getting swiftwick.com defeet.com or stance.com

Because it’s just another day. Not kids anymore, just an excuse for people to get drunk. Happens every weekend anyways. My mom wants it more than I do.

My grandpa (who raised me) died on my 15th birthday. Also as an only child with divorced parents who were both dirt poor, I always felt awful watching them try to scrape together enough to do something for my birthday so I'd rather just not get anything or do anything.
nuckle 3y ago
I get it but I love getting socks. *
Morgsz 3y ago
Socks would be an improvement. Ordered last minute on amazon something I'll never use or wear is what I'm getting....through my amazon account...
Suppose I never told her it always e-mails me each purchase and i get notifications on the app....
Hetrohuman1989 3y ago
Also as we grow older we have more and more responsibilities on us.
[deleted] 3y ago
Birthdays are designed for people under the age of 18. In general they are not special. Millions of people were born on the same day as you. its just a physical process that happened.
why do people want to be congratulated for it? you want to be congratulated for one day dying?
a 5 year old child celebrating a birthday I get maybe because the mortality rate of children in the olden days used to be high so it is celebrating another year closer to maturation and adulthood.
xNOM 3y ago
In some countries people throw a party on their birthday for their friends. No gifts.
sensuallyprimitive 3y ago
jesus christ stop trying to use logic
lumberjackadam 3y ago
You sound fun. Birthdays are a celebration of the person. It's a way of saying 'I'm glad you're around and I get to spend time with you, here's a cake. Have some fun'.
TheWinterStar 3y ago
For some people it's also the time to thank their parents for conceiving and giving birth to them. One of my aunts sends my grandma a card basically thanking her for being born. Not in a sarcastic way, but a legit thank you. When my mom found out about the idea, she demanded it of me and my brothers. (If she'd been half the 'mother' our grandma is, I might have considered it..)
EffectivePineapple2 3y ago
I love gifts, I also think birthdays are dumb. Maybe this is just me, but why are we celebrating the day we were born? It’s not that big a deal. We have way too much of our culture centered around birthdays.
Remember_Poseidon 3y ago
people love reasons to have parties and from what I've seen older people instead of asking to hang out with others will invent a reason to have a party
ColonelVirus 3y ago
I've never understood this from anyone. A birthday is meant to be your day... You get (within means/reason) what you want. Yet people STILL expect people to get them random shit. Well then you get fucking socks...
This has literally never happened to me, there has never been a birthday that I don't know what I want months or even a year in advance.
Qaeta 3y ago
Personally, on my birthday, I just like having dinner with some close friends. No gifts.
ColonelVirus 3y ago
Sure that's fine. My list is too long for that. I can have dinner with people any time. Also none of my mates exchange gifts, this is family only. partner/parents/siblings/grand parents etc.
Jethr0Paladin 3y ago
The problem isn't socks. The problem is that it's shitty socks.

Run away from any person that TELLS you what they want as a gift. Thats not how it works.
LuckyKiwi2 3y ago
I wish that was how it worked. It would be way more convenient. I’m always afraid I’ll buy something stupid lol.
ZacEfronButUgly 3y ago
When you've been with someone for over like, 5 years, telling them what you want is so so so much easier man
MrEdinLaw 3y ago
You really seem to be the problematic one in relationships. My gf and I are getting married at the end of this year after being best buddies for 2 years and a couple for 4 years after that. All that time we always asked what the other one needed or wanted and it always went well.
Communication is key.
benny_da_boi1139 3y ago
Have your parents never asked what you wanted for your birthday
flameguy4500 3y ago
Not how it works? So I'm supposed to guess or some shit? Nah man. I prefer they tell me, so I know exactly what to get them. I'd hate to get them something I'd think they love only for them to hate it. Gifts are complicated for some of us, and it takes a world of hurt off our shoulders if they just tell us what they want
darthbilbo44 3y ago
Or even just a few hints, like ‘oh some perfume would be nice’ not ‘surprise me’ then get all angry when I buy the wrong thing
