If you did and said nothing at all you'd be operating at a low dread level because stonewalling is a communication barrier and if she was still engaged in life or marriage she would notice and react. His trainwreck is already down several stages of depression so low-level dread isn't going to work but it would still be better than making things even worse and digging a deeper emotional hole for her to wallow in.

Also, one of the most stressful times during marriage is when one partner is improving and becoming more responsible than the other one. Don't turn your improvements into something she's done wrong by being the same (that's not leading).
