Hypergamy and it does exist, is not always and does not have to be a dark cloud hanging over things. Yes, its there, but so is beauty which is a thing, feelings which are a thing and other things besides.
Some people see all these things as toxic but it does not have to be so. Fun and fulfillment, happiness or contentedness, enjoyment, can exist in the same place as death disease, destruction - I mean just look at the world around us with germs and pestilence and natural disaster - humans find a way. Of course the construct of marriage is I would argue less important than ever these days, but its not something I knock to those who want to try it.
I think as a man you have to have a high degree of tolerance for unsavory things be that through understanding or acceptance. Also exceptions always exist - not all women will be hypergamous, yes well if a guy drops the ball anything is possible just like if she got very fat all of a sudden or turned into a total bitch for one reason or another, but not all women want to trade up just because. However, you fail to realize that what you're talking about is merely the short-term pleasure that you get from hypergamy and that's it. The only way I've found women don't test you is if you're consistently testing yourself in your own life mission and she's already getting her appetite of feeling you slay beast and avert dangers and conspiracies daily which leads to your internal growth. The minute you chill and pause hunting beast in your life, she becomes the beast. She loses respect for your stagnation. You're denying her your growth in status. As a man, that’s reached that place I agree. After 2 marriages (don’t even, I know, stupid) and being single 16 years I know that emotion. Also, I was an accidental Alpha for many of the last 15 years for a few base reasons. One, the last two years of my marriage were brutal, as a result, I decided to get in a gym, and started cycling. Now keep in mind, none of this was for preparing for the market, it was for my own sanity. I was a father of kids nearly teenaged, and I didn’t drink or anything else. I found free weights and I found long distance cycling and frankly it saved my ass mentally. Pair this with, my career was smoking, I was earning six figures, traveling extensively, things were full on tilt. The gym saved my ass.
Fast forward, I file for divorce (yeah, I broke the bond) and find myself single in a market of guys my age who, have the same money, brains, but look like shit, have no LIFE to speak of beyond work, etc... I was snowboarding, cycling, lifting, reading, and successful. Blew my mind, found myself knee deep in women coming after ME. Boom, accidental alpha. Nice guy was pissed, fairly buff after 2 solid years with weights, and a full pocket.
I didn’t need pickup, I had become a man that was I guess in their eyes, worthy.... I wasn’t about to commit (drove them nuts, oddly they kept coming back anyway) and I was up front about who I was, and what I was there for. Fast forward to now. I was never out to set a record with how many women I could sleep with. I was there for companionship and yeah, sex. Same with males' violent and aggressive instincts. Both were suppressed to a degree for us to live in this thing called civilization. Now we live in a one sided world where women are free to act on any instinct they have without consequence and men are restrained to a tiny box of acceptable behavior by the power of the state.

You brought up a very intriguing point.
Could it be that we are not meant to live in such proximity to such a large number of people?
What could be the reasons for that? Too much competition? We're able to bond better in a smaller group? What would be the ideal ratio of men to women?
With the rise of cities across the globe, people are around other people more often but the relationships are perhaps weaker because we don't feel the need to bond as much. Together but alone.

Yes. Human ability to bond is limited - hence why there is a tribal mentality, our tribe is better than yours and we will fuck you up.
Of countries. City states where far healthier for men as they were much more easily controllable and it was easier to rise up or leave.
It's because of individualism. Collectivism is actually healthier for human psychology than individualism. Humans have always been tribal animals, individualism goes against our own nature.

When people talk about hypergamy as a social trend, they really ought to be saying "unbridled" hypergamy.
Women have always been hypergamous.
In the recent past it used to be managed through laws, religion and personal responsibility.

Capitalism is not a meritocracy - because if it wasn't for laws, I'd swindle as many people as I could and make fuck tons of money. But in my profession swindling is hard to get away with.

Bill Gates is a millionaire because he innovated the computer, something that made peoples lives infinitely easier & saved them millions by eliminating the need to buy paper.

During the post-war, time and money were incredibly scarce. So some dude created McDonald's, which gave people a cheap meal they could eat on their way to work.

Jeff Bezos created Amazon, which innovated the online shopping industry & eventually expanded with things like Kindle, and even AWS, which makes large website incredibly easy to scale (pretty much automatic if configured right).

The boy over on r / Entrepreneur makes 8k /month providing lawn care service. He offers employees a steady job, and customers a freshly cut lawn. While not the most value providing thing in the world, he's offering value nonetheless & his earnings reflect that.

I offer computer repair & data recovery @ prices that are often less than half of what Best Buy (the only other tech store in town right now) charges their customers. The save my customers thousands of dollars, and even have a few loyal ones. While I'm no millionaire, and have recently ran into a road block, I do alright for myself.

But what can the average man do?

Mop floors?
Flip burgers?
Count money?
Move boxes?

Hate to break it to you, fam. But literally anyone can do those jobs. And with abundance comes decreased value. Basically, those skills are worthless.
In fact, if laws weren't put in place to prevent it, I'd bet anything that employers would be paying their employees less than $0.01 /hour due to literally anyone being able to replace them.

I agree with your comment until "they'd pay you .01 if they could!". That would just incentivize someone to start paying .02 to start attracting and filtering better workers because the .01/hr ones would get complacent. Eventually employers compete and the market starts reflecting the actual "min wage". The market will always equalize and optimize. If anything, the "laws" people think are "keeping poor people from being even poorer" are actually doing just that - keeping poor people poorer via arbitrary regulation of a market what would actually make them wealthier if left alone.
Everything else you said was spot on, though. The average person does not strive for personal growth or progress. They only complain about things they have control over.

I don't hate it, I don't fear it, I don't even pay attention to it. It is all the same to me. If I get dumped because of better prospects I will take this as a source of motivation to work harder. I have been self-sufficient since I hit 22 and I will continue to be. In my view it is not men who need women but vice versa. What does that make me?
