Marvel has become incredibly "woke" in their print and movie collections recently. You can thank Disney's ownership for that, and Star Wars' trend towards oblivion as well.

I notice a lot of "boy man" characters. It's usually 30-something year old guys who somehow don't know how to do anything, can't move the relationship along, are sort of mean to women, and are still playing beer pong and eating ramen/living in filth. Then the woman love interest is a super loud mouth fat chick, but wants to be seen as cutesy and dresses like a 5 year old, but she is also constantly nagging and trying to manipulate the boy man into being an actual man by any means necessary including lying and sneaking around. Then she forces him to commit as he drags his feet and she orchestrates the whole thing and then eventually they have a kid, he cheats or loses interest, but eventually they get back together, etc.

It's so depressing, because you can tell the writers think they've written a romantic love story instead of a really sad settling for not being alone story.

This is not by accident. Hollywood is hoping young women will model this behaviour, either because they think it will empower young women and make them happy, or they know that it won’t and they want to push the idea anyways.

I have. GoT is also full of strong women. Some of them sure make great role models, but...

I spent a decade or so trying to play this "just as strong as men" game. Military, hard core STEM field, rough working places. It was, to be honest, exhausting, but I received so much praise! How I miss it as a SAHM - bringing up my profession in conversation, the "WOW" reaction... And all it was based on was the idea that I had broken the gender roles.

But it has been a relief to let go. To decide that I can rest in my femininity instead of hopelessly striving to be just like the men.

It is a horrible, uselessly stressfull, fruitless struggle that this kind of role models place on young girls. They combine perfect femininity and effortless masculine strenght in a way that is utterly unrealistic, even more unrealistic than the male heros for young men. Or traditional feminine heroines for young women. I don't like this development at all.

I saw "Alita: Battle Angel" recently.

Sure, it's about a female warrior. BUT she also loves puppies, chocolate, and cute boys. Her idea of love is to give herself completely to the boy she likes, to trust him and do anything to help him achieve his goals. She follows his lead and never argues with him.

Of course it's based on a story written by Japanese writers decades ago. haha.

Captain Marvel was kinda bad. Apparently some theaters, starting on day one, had exactly 30 empty seats that were paid for at every showing. Modern day western feminists seem to suffer from inferiority complex and penis envy, so they try very hard to prove that women can do whatever they believe/perceive to be masculine (including even something just assholish, and vulgar).

I agree. It’s past time to show women being women. Sure we are strong but we are soft, caring, loving, giving, just simply feminine. Those are the qualities that little girls should strive toward and what little boys are taught women should be. We aren’t equal to men in so many ways and they aren’t equal to us either. Well I mean, you went to a superhero movie. If they remade Little House on the Prairie and Laura was super aggressive then I'd get your point. But shes meant to be a superhero. That's literally the whole point.

I have noticed this reoccurring theme too! Almost every female lead is the same nowadays. Men are portrayed as incompetent and to be saved by the women. It’s honestly becoming very predictable and boring.

Though I have to admit I enjoy some of it. It is entertaining, if not inspiring. I also like the "Dear future husband" song :-p It's just so cheery and funny.

Making an adaptation from comics to the "big screen" is hard. I mean wonder woman was done really well case in point. Diana was confused a lot in the comics and it showed in the movies. She didn't really have any real interactions with the outside world or men and they did a great job and conveying that. I don't believe Brie Larson was the best person for this role however just my opinion. I think if they had did the character a little more like Wonder Woman it would had been better.

Some of the greatest woman in cinemas Ripley from Aliens, she had emotion, she was also bad ass, and had motherly characteristics as well. I feel they like to pitch this I don't need a man vibe. Aliens did the opposite Ripley relied on everyone she knew she needed her crew to survive. It wasn't this i'm a strong woman who doesn't need anyone I'll kill the alien myself which wouldn't not have happened

In the “olden” days it was a woman’s prerogative to change her mind. Aka. break promises, Plus I have grown up with constant “backhanded” social commentary on how men are useless at house chores. There was even a recent post here where the wife said she would not want to eat from a plate her husband cleaned.

What’s different now is that on top of the men are bad at being women theme there’s the women are smarter anyway, just yield theme.

Lazy writing of women is to blame. It’s a very simple character to create, it’s hard to write women who are complex in film.
