How to lead women in the workplace?
I couldn't find any similar posts about this subject. I have recently gotten a new job at a factory where I need to lead 20-30 women. I am only used with leading men. With men it's easier because you can be more direct with them, don't have to watch your tone and you know that they know that we're all working as a team. What I've learned now is that being too direct and tonedeaf is "too strict/intense" and that they as a group will get moody and work slower. So it's a matter of balance (practicing the carrot more than the stick). However, I also need to constantly remind them of simple tasks that they should be doing anyway (Always put this part on this part, always clean this part) but they only do it when I am watching/around. The current team leader also struggles with this so it's not my number one priority but I don't like the fact that they get moody when I simply tell them what to do. So yes, caring about what these women think of me is pretty relevant to my job. And the fact that I am new and still need to learn much means I can't simply outperform them and lead by example (yet). Any tips? I might already be going in the right direction because I am so new so it's unrealistic to expect respect so soon. I couldn't find any similar posts about this specific subject.
