Amber Heard abused Johnny Depp and L’Oréal just made her a spokesperson. This is not female empowerment this is repulsive.

The abuse went both ways. They were both abusing each other. It is still weird that they’d make such a controversial person their spokesperson

Now whenever I think of L'oreal I think of a bratty woman shitting on a bed.

Trashy brand for "divas" unaware that they have been irrelevant for a decade.

L'Oreal doesn't care about her abusive behavior, because the media doesn't propagate it. If the media took domestic abuse towards men seriously, she would be ostracized from society.

There was some twitter slapfighting last week or so where L'Oreal defended her, calling anyone who didn't like her or presented the evidence proving her abuse a misogynist

Yep. If there had been more outrage, l'oreal would have turned her away.

If the media took domestic abuse towards men seriously

How about her female partner she beat to? Will they care about that?

1

adelie42 5y ago

Imho, it is a profoundly anti-woman / anti-empowwrment message.

Women being abusive towards male partners is treated the same way an aggressive dog is treated; the guy's choice. If a guy has an aggressive dog and gets bit, nobody makes the dog responsible (not to be confused with facing consequences).

A potentially empowering message for men, but it puts the women in the place of a disposable accessory to the man's lifestyle.

Denying agency is a double edged sword.

I agree with the sentiment, but holding the media (or hollywood, or politicians) up as a moral exemplar is probably going to blow up in your face.

1

otherhalfofclyde 5y ago

EXACTLY. If you’re really for equality, then treat her the way you treated Johnny BEFORE proof even came out. Otherwise, you’re no feminist.

247

ClubZlut 5y ago

Feminists are treating her no different than any of us expect. Turning a blind eye to it and continuing to call Johnny the problem and Amber the victim.

I tried to find an article on this and it's nothing but sites I've never heard of like this one. MSM is staying silent on this one, but had it been a man....like what happened to Depp....

8

Burke2 5y ago

Even when the media does report on cases like this it's very soft played in comparison to how they treat male perpetrators.

3

FictionalTrope 5y ago

Chris Brown beat Rhianna, and only got probation and community service, and still makes hit albums and is at all the award shows. Amber Heard is arguably worse because she lied and tried to play the victim, knowing people wouldn't take Depp seriously because of sexist bullshit. I think most people just need to reevaluate who the major entertainers are in our society, because we let them get away with anything.

4

Burke2 5y ago

Yeah I agree with you there. I have a very strong opinion on Chris Brown, and the positive image he has in the media lately. It truly is gross what people are willing to turn a blind eye to for some entertainers. The rampant sexual abuse of minors by rock bands in the 70's-90's also comes to mind.

11

Crom_Committee 5y ago

This is the best take. She's probably desperate for work. I bet they got her for nearly nothing. They'll run some ads, drum up some controversy for extra free press, and if it so much as starts to look bad, they'll sacrifice her publicly.

This is really a no-lose move for L'Oreal.

Loreal doesn't care because their market demographic is exclusively female and the majority of them don't care.

at2wells 5y ago

In my experience it’s a bit worse than that. Not only do they not care, but they also think she is a victim. They can’t believe what this nasty man has done to her career.

To them he should have manned up and took his medicine. How dare he do this!

74

coronacounselingclub 5y ago

This is so sad but true...we are trying to change this though but it's no easy task. Abused guys need to find voices and we need enough of them to speak out. This whole 'manning up' thing is out of the dark ages. Abuse is abuse - abuse sees no gender. If you're a guy struggling in an abusive relationship, past or present. Help is available. Reach out to me via pm or through abusedmenhelp.com or coronacounselingclub.com I am an ex abused guy - together we can make an impact, for men's rights to be heard and treated the same. These are not men's or women's rights but human rights.

I wouldn't be surprised if their own market research showed that their market demographics have a deep and underlying desire to dominate over "men" and that they're inherently evil & base creatures.

She's a good representation of that.

what they want is "good looks", She's bisexual and "empowered".. all key factors.

19

I'm convinced that she is actually just lesbian, when she came onto the scene she was known as a lesbian then her PR team decided to introduce her as "bi-seck-sioux-aul" as Jeremy Clarkson put it on Top Gear.

Here's an article from 2010 when she came out as a "Lesbian"

Notice the photo caption "Amber Heard will play Johnny Depp's leading lady in the upcoming film 'The Rum Diary.'(Walker/Getty)"

Heh, her next target was johnny, they "fell in love" while shooting the rum diary.

It was all very entertaining.

That article makes a great point that is missed. We imprison too many ppl. Don’t misconstrue that article. (Just a discussion, not trying to say you were or imply to rile you.)

Just a small side point. The mass incarceration problem we have is directly caused by the 13th ammendment. We never outlawed slavery, we just changed it from chattle slavery to "if you are poor enough, you can be made a slave because a soave hunter trumped up some charges"

2

Gaugeskye2019 5y ago

Yea the wording it’s terrible. The point still remains that just throwing women on cause men been doing it forever is a terrible premise to base an argument man. Don’t throw men in prison at such a high rate absolutely but also let’s not just arbitrarily throw women in. Besides men being imprisoned is men capturing men. So women aren’t involved and aren’t even a talking point. What we should be discussing a how men handle other men and why we throw each other in prison on the regular.

Sure. You’re correct. Semantically. But essentially men have written and put into place most every law and punishment. It’s only been in the last 10-15 years have we seen a jump in women in office. So hence my statement that men imprison men. Yes it’s governments imprisoning. Historically, all ran by men. Not an outlandish sentiment to grasp, I do believe. But ehh to each their own.

Edit: what I’m trying to say is that men have battles to fight in our uphill fight against ourselves. We should acknowledge this when we discuss these issues. Paint with a bigger brush you cover more canvas. If we discuss all the things it fixes more issues other than women get child custody at a higher rate..... yadi yadi yada lol

Don't you think it's actually mostly damaging to women to hold men to a higher standard?

Women might enjoy getting free passes in the moment, but in accepting undeserved handouts they are reinforcing the stereotype that they are weaker, opportunistic and not to be taken seriously.

82

TehReedster89 5y ago

Yep. Some friends of mine and I were talking about the stupid Ms Monopoly thing that came out a while back, where female players get more money from every source than male players do. The obvious intent is to be like, "Ha, now the wage gap is reversed, how does it feel?" Which is stupid for many reasons, not the least of which is that the wage gap is a myth.

But one of my friends sent me a video of Jimmy Kimmel talking about that game. And among other things, he argued that it's not empowering to women at all. The comparison he made is how you deliberately hold back when playing against a child so they can feel like they did well. It should be seen as very insulting to women that they need to be given a permanent handicap just to stand a chance of winning.

That's not exactly a unique comparison, but I still like it when it shows up. Men should be frustrated by all the bullshit going on these days, but so should women. Men are being disadvantaged, and women are being treated like children who need special help just to compete. No one should enjoy that.

11

TehReedster89 5y ago

And this is why I roll my eyes when people accuse this subreddit of being misogynistic. We discuss men's issues, and we also discuss the problems with feminism. But being anti-feminism is not the same as being anti-woman. Not by a long shot. And when someone actually does say something anti-woman, they get downvoted, and people call them out for it. It's pretty clear to me that anyone who calls this subreddit misogynistic doesn't spend any real time here. They either automatically assume that a men's rights board must be anti-woman in nature, or they come here one time, scroll until they find a single anti-woman comment (regardless of how many downvotes it has), and say "aha, I knew it!"

3

Gaugeskye2019 5y ago

I mean we essentially have the old school feminist(wave 1, that ladies who stepped up and dominated for America while we were fighting ww2) mindset, its we aren’t anti men(women in our case) we just wanna be seen as equal on every and all playing fields. Anyone who thinks a men’s issues page is anti women just doesn’t understand the dynamic between men and women and how we truly should interact. Women are beautiful amazing creatures. Being anti women is so far away from the agenda of this page. That why I love it so much and I love calling out and downvoting these tools of anti women establishment. Stupidity at its finest.

It does make sense from that perspective, but all of this came out months ago, so that’s even less of an excuse. When Heard lied about being abused by Depp, the media sucked it up and he was cancelled immediately. But I definitely agree with you. This is inexcusable. "I would love to see women held to different standards, other than the superficial ones we are held to".

Ok what about the standard : Don't abuse your spouse? Yeah, let's hold women to that standard, I agree with her wholeheartedly in this regard. This is proof that women and men are judged differently for the same offense (abusing your romantic partner). This comes from a mindset that men="strong, violent, unemotional" and women="weak, frail, sensitive". They are perpetuating the values they claim to fight against.

I see you have a different definition of ‘feminism’ that pops up when convenient.

Please look into the ‘no true Scotsman’ fallacy that will explain why your subjective definition is irrelevant in the face of the society destroying sexists actions taken by feminists.

So, even though someone like Clementine Fors claims to be a feminist, and others claiming to be feminists say she is too, her saying things like "Not enough men died" automatically disqualifies her?

That's basically saying "feminists can do no wrong and if they do they aren't feminists".

Problem here is i can guarantee the L'Oreal is being pressured by womens groups and probably threatened with boycotts if they drop her. Dropping her would validate JD's claims and the SJW crowd cant have that. It would force the conversation of womens bad behavior.

What u/bufedad said. Additionally, I didnt say anything about men not being victims. I said ot would force the conversation of it. As more balanced info comes out about dv situations, the more feminists pivot. It was "it doesnt happen" until the data disproved it. Then it became "its different because men do more damage" and "well what did he do to deserve it".

Feminist academics created the Duluth model (you know the one that claimed if women were using violence it was ONLY because they were defending themselves)

Not only did they create a model of dealing with domestic violence that claimed female abusers didn't exist, they pushed it on police departments as training for dealing with these situations.

They literally created a program that required male victims be arrested if they reported their abuser... then use the arrest statistics as proof there are no female abusers.

I'm going to have to disagree with the majority here on this one. Too many times men have been falsely accused of rape/abuse and their livelihoods completely destroyed over it as their friends, family and business all cut them off and they are outcast from society only to have the claims proven false, though, that never fixes what was lost. Men should never have their lives destroyed until all claims are proven in court and as such Amber Heard should not have her life destroyed until it is all proven, no matter how obvious it is or her admitting to it.

. Too many times men have been falsely accused of rape/abuse and their livelihoods completely destroyed over it as their friends, family and business all cut them off and they are outcast from society only to have the claims proven false, though, that never fixes what was lost.

Like the person she falsely accused (Johnny Depp).

Like the person she was recorded calling a pussy because he wouldn't hit her back?

Like the person she was recorded telling that he could tell the world he was abused, and no one would believe him because he was a man.

Like the person she was recorded telling that she hit him and couldn't promise she wouldn't hit again, because she gets violent when she gets angry.

Like the person who she put a cigarette out on his face (there are pictures of him with the wound, and no one realized what it was at the time).

Like the person who's finger she severed, and had to have it surgically reattached?

Sorry, Depp has submitted a mountain of evidence and only a tiny portion has been released so far, and it's unimaginably damning.

At least, people in the comments are going nuts, there's still some decency left. Now, let's hope that, according to the comments, this shit brand will be boycotted

edit: typo

I can picture the boycot happening. Really what caused them to pick her out of other self respecting women that has inner beauty.

Female here. Nothing beautiful about that woman at all. For any human to treat their partner the way she treated Depp is a tragedy. It seems this quote about standards just lets her get away with it more. This company should have at the very least kept to the standard of not hiring and promoting abusers. What a joke. No wonder so many men choose not to speak up about domestic abuse. It's heartbreaking that if she were a man, she would be "cancelled " but because she isn't, she just gets to go on with her life. L'oreal lost a customer for sure.

Maybe L'Oréal is going after a new demographic: psychopathic abusive women.

They will change the company name to L'Ordéal

Also Amber Heard's PR is trying it's best to give her positive attention in the comments

2

ThinkerBunny 5y ago

Clearly she's already being held to a different standard thanks in part to society's superficial fixation on women, since ya know, she is being kept on while proven to be an abuser and her victim fired just based on word.

Talking bout inner beauty, but if her nose was 1/4 inch different in any way, there would be some other woman in that photo.

"Amber Heard highlights that a woman's inner beauty is what we should value the most"....

Inner beauty.

Inner beauty.

Domestic abuser, compulsive liar.

Inner beauty.

I'm seeing a bit of a disconnect here.

Same! They own so many skincare brands, but fuck them. Domestic abuse is very personal to me and I CANNOT stand a company that makes a joke of it.

I get call a misogynist or ignorant when I say the feminist movement is shit. Even though I give evidence for my claims, people still refuse to believe. I truely believe that men will become oppresed and still be called the oppresor by the early 2030s. If this keeps up, I'll move to either South America, The Middle East of the South Pacific Isles. It's not the US, but it'll do.

This is nothing short of an obvious and very DELIBERATE attack on men! Whoever made this decision purposely spat in the face of every male domestic violence victim!

wait, he was abused!? what the hell? I never saw any news stories about this, can someone explain what happened?

3

otherhalfofclyde 5y ago

Exactly! That’s the whole problem. The media refuses to cover it, which is why you’ve never heard of it. They covered it when she accused him though. She chopped off part of his finger with a glass bottle and there are screenshots of texts about how he refused to go to a hospital, prolly to avoid getting her in trouble. Also, there’s a recording of her calling him a baby for calling her out on the abuse. His exes have come forth to defend his reputation but Heard has already completely fucked him over.

2

They didn't "just" make her their spokesperson. They did that 2 years ago.

9

otherhalfofclyde 5y ago

I had no idea. So you’re telling me they had even MORE time to drop her. Terrible

9

boxsterguy 5y ago

Yes, but also it means they're maybe not as terrible, signing a known domestic abuser. Presumably they signed her before all that came to light. Now they should do the right thing and dump her, but we don't know what kind of contracts are in place. They might have to pay her a billion dollars if they cut her contract short. Unlikely, and obviously an exaggeration, but the point being we don't know all the details here. We only know the public side, and that L'Oreal primarily targets women and probably aren't going to suffer huge fallout from male protests. It may be that whatever face they lose publicly by keeping her on is better than whatever they lose by terminating her contract early.

Of course if she were a man who was metooed, she'd be out on her ass before you could blink.

8

WeedleTheLiar 5y ago

Maybe just don't make posts with her in them, then? Intentionally putting her face on their branding is an extremely tone deaf move.

1

The_Ruly_Anarchist 5y ago

Most contracts like this have a 'morals' clause that lets the brand drop the 'star' if they might tarnish the brand's reputation by association.

1

otherhalfofclyde 5y ago

You know, you make a VERY good point. Thank you for teaching me something. But yes! Your last point is the most important one. Depp’s career got hurt before the truth came out so she should also suffer consequences. I feel like it’s also silly for companies to NOT build something into the contract like “if you don’t fit our image of you at the time of hire, we will be able to let you go with no further financial compensation.” Something like that.

3

What you're looking for is a morality clause, and they exist. They're often very specific, though. So for example an actress might have a morality clause that terminates her contract if she gets a DUI or if a sex tape leaks, but probably not if she beats the shit out of her male partner.

Obviously I don't know what L'Oreal's contract with Heard looks like. My speculation that maybe they're not getting rid of her for contractual reasons is just speculation. It's far more likely that they're not getting rid of her because "believe all women" or whatever bullshit. But there are at least plausible reasons that might exist that could prevent them from dropping her.

If "inner beauty" is what matters most why doesn't Loreal have any conventionally unattractive women spokespersons?

They're literally saying a woman should be taken seriously even if they're beautiful...while simultaneously ignoring every woman who is not beautiful, and somehow still thinking they're taking a stand on superficial values.

You can't get much more tone deaf than this.

They did not just make her a spokesperson. They’ve had a contract with her since 2018 before her crimes were revealed.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/loreal-paris-announces-amber-heard-as-new-global-spokesperson-300646845.html

HOWEVER, they have had plenty of time to cancel their partnership with her now that the evidence has come to light that she abused Jonny Depp and they have not done so. But if you take a look at the comments on their Twitter announcement for this campaign, you can tell that the public perception of her and their partnership have definitely changed in favor of cancelling this abuser.

Ready To Glare made a video about this, fuck L’Oréal. Completely inappropriate and ignorant. She’s pretty on the outside but my god, she seems to have major issues and a abusive tendencies. A horrible example of a woman. There are countless beautiful faces they could support who are not abusive and malicious.

I love Ready To Glare. Her and Blaire White have very strong perspectives, but they are truly for equality and we love queens who aren’t afraid to stand up for what’s right. I do worry that they’ll eventually be pressured to leave their platforms though.

I agree with you completely, they do have very strong opinions and they are not afraid to express them however I do appreciate that they are both able to admit when they were wrong or needed to learn more. And to evolve. I am curious what will happen with the platform, I’m curious if Joe Rogan’s move to Spotify will affect things on a larger scale when it comes to where independent content creators can thrive.
