Hi. I have a bit of a dilemma. Let's say that another man or woman is disrespecting a girl you care about in X social circle. What is the appropriate response for each gender? Do you stand up for them or is that white knighting?

In general, you dont need to save someone from disrespect. This is white-knighting and you're gonna be Captain Save-a-Hoe who gets a fast pass to the friend zone. You already sound like an orbiter to this girl, which is an issue if you legit dont just want her as a friend.
Appropriate response depends on the situation. Whatever you do dont make the girl the focus. The person behaving badly in a social setting is relevant, the recipient is not.

Unless the female in question is your grandmother, mother, sister, daughter, or wife, it's best to not concern yourself with how girls allow other guys to treat them. Just accept that if a person doesn't want to be disrespected, they wouldn't continue associating with someone who treats them disrespectfully.

and as Zavss said.... girls will almost never stick up for you. It's just not how they are wired. What are your motivations for protecting her?
