Doesn't look like we actually "own" anything.

I own a small piece of field about 50 kms from where I live... or do I? As an "owner", I am legally obliged to pay small rural tax, about $20/3 months. Not much, isn't it? Piece of cake, right... but let me think what happens, when I stop paying those money. At first, I owe it to local authority. They sent a call for payment or two... then, they call a repo man and what he legally does? Under the law, he sells "my" land to cover the debt.

So am I the owner? Doesn't look like it. I'm rather a subscriber.

This is the same for flats in the city - taxes, mortgages and rent are obviously higher. This is the same for "my" MP3 music "in the cloud" or some software I use. This is slightly less obvious for Kindle ebooks that I "bought" (I actually paid one-time fee for renting them and the right to read them can be revoked at any time). Etc, etc, etc.

Lessons learned

If there is a tax on something, this means that a given thing can not be "owned" by an individual but is merely rented, at the legal will of the government and one's privilege to rent can be revoked at any time. This is just another fake layer of the Clown World: "you're an owner and you need to pay tax". The truth is "you're actually a subscriber, this is not yours and will never, ever be yours".

What does this post have to do with sexual strategy?

Not much. I'm reporting myself to the mods, if the post stays, that's on them. EDIT: looks like I'm not able to report my own post as breaking "rule zero". Oh well.

I own a ranch in the mountains 60 miles out of town. Taxes are several hundred dollars a year. With them, I buy civilization.

So far this year, for my tax money I've gotten several miles of dirt road maintained, Sheriff constantly keeping marauding tweekers at bay, and a fleet of tens of millions of dollars worth of aircraft plus crews that knocked down a fast moving fire one ridgeline North of me in less than 45 minutes.

I feel I've gotten the better part of the deal here. But, fuck socialism, right?

[-] moroi 14 Points 3 months ago

I believe that overwhelming majority of people would still gladly pay for this kind of services even if society somehow turned ancap. I know I would. It just leaves somewhat bitter taste that you don't have the choice to opt out. From DT point of view I also believe that for most critics the illusion of choice would be enough.

[-] deek0146 2 Points 3 months ago

Because most people would opt out of paying for government services until they actually needed them, and the point at which you need them is the time when you're least likely to be able to afford them (healthcare, firefighters, police, road building etc)

[-] UnleashYourLife 7 Points 3 months ago

You didn't buy civilization, the civilization bought you. Don't pretend you had the freedom of choice to find someone whom you had to pay in order to get what you've gotten. You had no say.

[-] ex_addict_bro 6 Points 3 months ago

You didn't buy civilization, the civilization bought you.

Chances are those pilots, sheriffs, firefighters and refugees need to be fed, so who got the better part of the deal can be questionable.

How do you see yourself in 10-20-30 years?

  • The guy whining about having to pay taxes or lose property to the government
  • The guy buying deeply discounted property at county tax sales
[-] ex_addict_bro 5 Points 3 months ago

This. No way to beat the system. Join the game or be a looser.

[-] celtiberian666 1 Point 3 months ago

The guy buying property knowing that taxation is theft. :)

What you think would be the best and what you have to do to operate in this world and age are two different subjects.

We pay taxes for a very pratical reason: so we don't get shot (try to defend your property against confiscation for "unpaid taxes", you will be shot). Pay the least you lawfully can (thare are ways to reduce the bill), and don't lose your sleep over that.

[-] Gooraba 2 Points 3 months ago

Yeah taxes aren't "rent". They're just taxes. There are taxes on property/other assets because property/assets are part of a person's worth, not just income.

TL;DR "it's not yours, it's just your turn"

Research the idea of a "Land Patent". Way back in the history of the USA, at one point there were no property taxes. You owned land, nobody could take it from you. The instrument of ownership was a "Land Patent". Then the government came up with the idea of various local services (schools, roads, etc.) and floated the idea of property taxes, and the instrument of ownership became a "deed" instead of a "land patent". By deeding your ownership, you agree to pay said property taxes, and you agree to the consequences of not paying them. Back when this change happened, there were lots of land owners that decided to maintain their patents on their lands instead of executing deeds because they didn't value the services and didn't want to pay more taxes. Smart guys. Over the years, as property has been sold, subdivided, willed, etc., lawyers, real estate professionals, and the like have guided it all to go the way of deeds and these days nobody even remembers what a land patent is.

What nobody wants anyone to know now is that it is indeed still possible to establish land patent on your property. It's a tedious process, and because nobody remembers what it is, the local government will try to take your land if you establish patent on your land so you can stop paying property taxes on it. They are ignorant to the point that they won't even bat at an eye at it. You'll have to lose the initial court exchange because the judges don't know land patent law either. Then you'll have to maneuver to a federal appeals court, where an appeal to uphold a properly documented and established land patent has never been denied. It will be a pain in the arse, but it can be done, and then you won't owe property taxes anymore once it's all said and done.

[-] mattizie 3 Points 3 months ago

This is huge if true.

I don't think you can actually own land ANYWHERE in the world otherwise.

[-] Herdsengineers 1 Point 3 months ago See this. No tax liability can stand against a Land Patent is you go through the process correctly.

[-] Your_Coke_Dealer 2 Points 3 months ago

Please provide evidence that this is indeed an extant area of law and not just sovereign citizen bullshit.

[-] Herdsengineers 1 Point 3 months ago

Just one source. There are a lot of them out there, but there's also a lot of misinformation. You honestly need an attorney that specializes in Land Patents to help you run through it all if you ever wanted to do this.

You're not a homeowner, you're a "homeower".

Protip, Get an LLC, LLC only pays taxes on profits. Make sure it never makes a profit

LLC must take care of it's employee... Never pay yourself or that's income tax.

[-] celtiberian666 1 Point 3 months ago

This... In many countries you can slash your tax burden to a fraction of what it is now just by incorporating yourself.

[-] celtiberian666 1 Point 3 months ago

Congrats! You just swallowed the red pill on government: taxation is theft, the state is a racket.

[-] saucierlol 1 Point 3 months ago

It's not yours for the simple reason that you don't have the means to take on the military that is ordered by your government. You are born in a country, that is your gift and your curse. You get lots of privilege that you are supposedly entitled to, and you get to follow some rules. You cannot choose to ditch one, the other, or both. This is your condition same as 99.99999% of the population of this planet (I d be interested to hear from a real born stateless (and how their life sucks very probably)).

Ownership doesn't even exist. Society has built a system. Operate within the system correctly and life is good. Refuse to operate within the system because of bullshit ideology and life is difficult. Simple as that.

[-] ex_addict_bro -1 Point 3 months ago

You're a good Chineese. Let me pass a social credit system point for you.

[-] mattizie 1 Point 3 months ago

Might makes right.

If you can afford to defend your property, it's yours. If you can't, it's not. Even then, you'd need some pretty damn good shit to defend yourself from a government force.

But I ask you this. Is a car still yours if you pay insurance on it so that it's replaced when it gets stolen?

$80 bucks a year is a pretty small price to pay for security from others taking your shit.

[-] 4matting 1 Point 3 months ago

Everything you have can be taken away.

You're merely allowed to have things.

You only own something insofar as you can keep others from taking it from you. If you are depending on the government to protect it for you then you pay for that privilege. We are born with nothing, we die with nothing. That's just how it is. Libertarian bullshit is just another flavor of bullshit. Don't be offended, that includes things like math, language, and everything else invented by humans.

[-] ex_addict_bro 5 Points 3 months ago

If you are depending on the government to protect it for you then you pay for that privilege

Not guaranteed actually (wars, riots) and unable to opt-out.

We are born with nothing, we die with nothing.

Don't be offended, that includes things like math, language, and everything else invented by humans.

No offence given, none taken.

Few months ago, while researching a topic, I relised, that I will never know some things for sure... that I'd need to be either a pilot or a scientist, that I'd need to have an additional life (or a few lives!) to fully examine some topics, to find the truth. So what should I do instead? Well, I decided to believe whatever makes me feel better, more active, more productive. I mean, as long as I will never ever know a thing for 100% sure - what's the deal?

And for the past weeks I started doubting all of that around me. What is reality? Are we living for sure? What does it mean "to live"? On the "material level" we think we know, but what exactly is "material"? Does the world outside my head exist? I always thought that such thinking will bring me into nihilism, "enjoy the decline" and all of that, but incidentally, looks like this took me out of the rut and brought me into productivity.
