Felt down all day long, not wanting to do anything, knowing what I have to do but never did it and before I went to bed it hurt knowing I did shit.
Decided to look up with a doc because why not (endocrinologist) and because I was thinking my T levels were fucked, explained my situation, did a full check up, everythings perfect except my vitamin D levels.
In regards to the tests own measures, the usual level is 60 and below 30 is low, I had 2. Yep, 2.
My doc gave me vitamin D supplements, its been half a month and I just want to say its... working. I didnt think it would work, but it is. It takes 2 months to go full effect but just 15 days went by and I feel different. I feel more active. If I stay at home the whole day I feel stressed I just want to go do active shit, get my adrenaline pumping, I now dont want to sleep all day and dont feel tired all day long
Im not saying its miraculous but if you relate, get them checked. Its cheap and the sooner you begin the sooner you get better.
I spend most of my time inside 4 walls because of my allergies on spring and during the summer I got a job inside 4 walls so I barely get sun for years on end. Get them checked.
Just a friendly reminder
idkVarun 4y ago
True. I had 15. Trying to bump it up.
deeznutsbeswingin 4y ago
Same, dude. I work from home and I work a lot so especially in the winter I just never get sun. I had a life changing month when I started taking vit D supplements one February. Now I take 6000IU daily in the summer and 10000 in the winter. It’s a lot, but I absolutely need it in my life.
ReadyToLearn256 4y ago
This thread has been life-changing for me.
grandmasbroach 4y ago
Don't take the stuff the docs give you, that is d2 and you want d3. They do that, because d2 is prescription. D3 is considered naturally occurring in the human body and can't be patented for that reason. Plus, d3 is way better for you and absorbs way easier. I would take 20,000Iu's a day for a week to get it back up, then a week at 15,000IUs, then a week at 10,000Ius, then take 5-10,000 a day after that as maintenance, depending on where you live. I am in the PNW, and take a full 10k a day. Just start gobbling that shit down, get in the sun more without sunscreen, and test again in a couple months. 2 is stupid low and you'll def feel a change getting that up.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
Actually my doc gave me D3
grandmasbroach 4y ago
No shit? Didn't know they started doing that.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
Yeah, someone commented that already and I checked and its D3, I take 1 vial every 15 days and each vial has 25000 UI of D3 and each box has enough for 2 months and my doc told me to at least get 2 boxes
grandmasbroach 4y ago
Bro, that isn't enough... Just go to the store and get a bottle of 10,000Iu pills. Take 2 a day for a month. This will put you at 140,000IUs a week. 25,000 every other week isn't enough considering your level. What they are trying to have you use, is only slightly over a maintenance dose. You are at, holy shit that is low, levels.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
My doc will in a month redo the blood tests if its still low he will probably increase it, i'll keep it for now and then see where I stand and if its still low i'll increase it then
grandmasbroach 4y ago
I can guarantee you it will be. Not sure why they think such a low dose is going to do anything, but ok. I was a PA for about a decade btw.

this thread just made me realize how low potassium i have in my current diet. another factor in your energy, outlook, and irritability.

i was getting my potassium from salmon (decent vit D source too) but now have added kale, avocado, and tomatoes.

HIGHLY recommend increasing potassium to also make the heavy weights feel easier to lift
zboo1h 4y ago
Absolutely this thread. Absolutely. A year ago I went to the doctor because I was getting sick a lot, and I thought it was from allergies or some horrible autoimmune disease or cancer, and it turns out my D level was something like 22. I started taking the strongest D supplement I could find and within a month I felt entirely different, night and day. The biggest difference was if I DID catch a cold or something similar, I didn't feel at all defeated like I normally would - I would just have a sneeze or a cough or sore throat or something but my spirit and mental state was rock solid, reinforced.
So yeah, take the D.

Sun is much more effective than supplements. However, supplements are better than no sun.
maha420 4y ago
How do I get this in my diet, outside of a supplement? I was under the impression it's eating enough cholesterol + sunlight?
twy3440 4y ago
You can't by diet. You need 20 minutes of sun a day, between 11-3 p.m. and this only works in the northern hemisphere between March and October due to the angle of the sun. So if you're in the Midwest, you must supplement in the winter.
Really, everyone should just take D-3 supplements, probably 5,000 IU a day. You can also just take that amount once a week as it's easier.
I like the advice from OP but I say first take 5,000 IU a day for 3 months and THEN get tested. I talked to a family doc and she said she used to test first but found everyone was deficient so she switched and only tested after 3 months of supplementation.
GoTransOrRope 4y ago
The only effective ways of getting vitamin D are through sunlight or supplementation. People will list cod oil and some other crap, but it's such small quantities of vitamin D per 100g that youd have to make major accommodations in your diet to make it work.
The fact is that we're a species evolved to make use of the sun and we're supposed to be in direct exposure to its rays for at least two hours per day to keep our bodies functioning properly. Modern civilization denies us the sun exposure we need.
Edit: I was wrong. Cod liver oil is extremely effective for getting vitamin D, but the catch is it comes with toxic levels of vitamin A.
inertargongas 4y ago
Salmon has a decent amount of Vitamin D, and I already eat it 3 or 4 times a week just to load up on DHA and protein with no saturated fat and low (or no?) omega 6. It's nowhere near enough D on its own, but taken together with some sunlight and the occasional supplement, I'm probably doing alright.

Liver, specially cod liver and some mushrooms are the only foods that have any significant amount if vitamin D.
Humans used to get their vitamin D through sunlight.
getfreeeeeeedom 4y ago
Some of us still work outdoors and get it that way
PotatoWatt 4y ago
There are lots of ways just search it up, but if you have them low enough it WILL take quite some time to get them up to normal, the best is to take the supplement to get it normal and then go for it.
Beware it can also be a problem related to absortion, if you take the supplements the doc will want a checkup 2 months later to see if its working, if your levels are still low then it means you have absortion problems and then its a whole another story
maha420 4y ago
Yeah I prefer to get information from people who've been through things rather than random stuff on the internet found with Google. Thanks for the tips.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
Never believe anything and dont take it from granted, im just sharing my side and you could get them checked from a real doc and get a real opinion. NEVER go get the supplements out of nowhere without a doc first
AriaRz22 4y ago
Good multivitamins that contain most of the vitamins in good percentage
twy3440 4y ago
Nope. Not enough D-3. Way too low. You need 3-4K a day but the RDA is only 1K. That's not enough by far.
maha420 4y ago
This is... still a supplement. My experience with supplements have been issues with absorption leads to spending a lot on things that don't work very well.
AriaRz22 4y ago
Oh i get it. So is this problem possible for everyone? Like not getting anymore from food because you're used to supplements?
maha420 4y ago
That's not it. It's just that typically nutrients are more bio-available, meaning they enter the bloodstream more readily, when they are a natural part of your diet vs. coming from a supplement.
AriaRz22 4y ago
So in the long run does it have any harm using supplements ?
maha420 4y ago
Might be hard on your kidneys filtering out all the unabsorbed vitamins, but other than that, I think you're just literally pissing your money away.
AriaRz22 4y ago
is there any science behind it or you experienced it just yourself? Cause ive gotten a lot of benefits from taking multivitamin.

Eat 3 or 4 ounces of liver a week.
Uesugi1989 4y ago
I'd rather eat shit than eat liver, any alternatives? I guess egg yolks
jm51 4y ago
Liver pills. Dried and ground liver in capsules, can be bought or make your own.
GoTransOrRope 4y ago
You would need to eat 20 eggs to get the old recommended intake of vitamin D, and at least 50 to get 2000 IU. Your body would reject eating three or more per day after a couple weeks or less.
6ix_ 4y ago
boi i been eating 9 eggs daily for months
Uesugi1989 4y ago
Well that's too bad. Still, liver is not even considered
D50HS 4y ago
Hey can you give further explanation as to why our body rejects eating three or more eggs?
I have 4 eggs as my main source of protein for breakfast everyday and that's worrying.
Livecrazyjoe 4y ago
That guy is giving shitty advice. Eat your eggs. They're good for you. Your body won't reject eggs.
GoTransOrRope 4y ago
I just speak from experience. I used to eat 6 eggs per day and everything was going fine for the first week or two. Then I started to notice I'd get irritable for no good reason, then headaches and sneezing with a runny nose. Eventually I figured out it was my egg consumption, so I scaled it back to 2 or 3 eggs over the course of the day, but I would still sneeze and get a runny nose. I had to stop eggs altogether for a months. It has something to do with all the glutamic and/or aspartic acids. In smaller amounts they're fine, but you can "OD" on them.
If you havent hit that limit yet with your egg intake, then you're probably fine.
D50HS 4y ago
I had digestion problems eating hard-boiled eggs and found out it's because of the grayish substance that forms around the egg yolk.
I switched to fried eggs and I no longer have those issues and I have been eating 3-4 eggs consistently for 1.5 years now. Maybe you're allergic to them.
enteralterego 4y ago
That sounds like an allergy.
I never knew I had shellfish allergy until a I took a work trip to Seattle and had a lot of crab, oysters, clam chowder etc for a week. Then I got some itchy asshole allergy that didnt go away until I got injections. Wasnt a fun 12 hr flight back home.
Apparently allergies can get triggered from exposure over a threshold.
Similar story, my son used to love cats, but had a sleepover at a friend who had like 5 cats, now any cat gives him runny nose and sneezes. His allergies were triggered that night apparently.
Uesugi1989 4y ago
It most likely doesn't, at least egg whites. Most pro bodybuilders reccomend egg whites for breakfast or post workout, they probably know more than us
EmoNiteIsForLovers 4y ago
That's so retarded eat the fucking yolks that were all the good nutrients are are you little girl afraid of a fucking egg yolk?

How much vitamin d do you take daily if I might ask?
pollodustino 4y ago
Back when I was really fighting depression and in a bad place I started supplementing with 8,000 units of Vitamin D a day. I had the same reaction as OP: After two weeks I felt incredibly better, and while the depression hadn't gone away completely due to not getting the rest of my life in order, I did feel like I was able to really attack it head on at that point.
I worked "outdoors" in southern California, but under an awning all day. I would go out in the sun intermittently from my work area to the parts department, but never really get a lot of sun exposure. I do the same now in my new job. Indoors, but with big open roll up doors so it's kinda outdoors. Even when I go outside I have long pants, full shirt, and a hat on. I still supplement with Vitamin D.
A bottle of the stuff is cheap. Twenty bucks will get you a two or three month supply. Do it.
Quantum_Pineapple 4y ago
Exercise regularly, keep your nutrition solid, get your levels checked, and keep killing it gents.
alexman91 4y ago
this is bad advice just take a d vitamin pill. its much cheaper than visiting the doctor. just assume ur low. you cant od on this
shark30k 4y ago
I have worked in night shifts 6 months right after graduation. After quitting that job I had no motivation, negative thoughts (depression/anxiety). I had terrible knee and back pain and after checking with a doctor he informed that this is due to low Vitamin D3 and low Calcium plus wrong posture while sitting and sleeping. So I followed a diet, I used to fap once a day reduced that to once a week, drank milk everyday, quit smoking, go for a walk in the morning sunlight, doing meditation and yoga. Now I feel more eneretic and motivated to get stuff done. I have decided to keep this lifestyle for the rest of my life . Also I stopped sleeping on bed now I prefer sleeping on the floor. Now I get the feeling from the inside to achieve something great in this lifetime which was clearly missing a few months ago.
stealthdawg 4y ago
In general: Take a daily multi-vitamin.
They are cheap and you avoid all these inefficiencies like this that arise from nuances in individual diet.

This is actually one of the greatest posts I've read here after lurking for two years. I live in Norway where you need to get the fuck out when the sun is out. Lack of vitamin D is probably the biggest cause for depression in the western world.
A study on tanning beds to fight winter-depression was done in Norway where the contestants would do 10-15minutes every 2 weeks and their Vitamin D levels stayed normal throughout the winter for those who did.
fdsafdasfdsafds 4y ago
I went from 30 years of cloud and rain and cold to 18 months of daily sunshine. I thought I was depressed. Turns out I was starved of sunshine because I woke up almost every day with a smile on my face, nothing could keep me down for more than 2 seconds, far more resilient, optimistic. It had such a major effect I am now in the process of emigrating having decided I will never live in my home country long-term ever again.
Take your supplements, but don't forget the climate!
X-Trem0 4y ago
I can relate to you so hard. I'm spanish and moved to germany long ago. I've been fucked up in this country for so long. Went for holidays back to spain after I started gym and changing myself and realised that I was feeling much better there... Slowly I'm starting to understand why.
My question is. How do people born here cope?
fawfulwow 4y ago
Also important: if you’re gonna supplement it, make sure to take at least 2000 IUs daily with your meal with the most fat (D3 is fat-soluble)
Zenonlite 4y ago
Same, I was depressed and anti-depressants helped but didn’t make it go away. Took a blood test and was Vitamin D deficient. Took the supplements and felt way better. My mood improved. Didn’t cure me, but worked better than Antidepressants (they have many side effects, vitamin d supplements do not have any, except in overdose). It also doesn’t help that I lived in Arizona so I avoided the sun like a vampire, which meant a lowered mood in the summer (the opposite of the “winter depression”).
People need to realize that if you’re depressed, sometimes it really can be a chemical imbalance. So go to your doctor and get a blood test to make sure, instead of only seeing a psychologist/psychiatrist.
The_Noble_Lie 4y ago
Does every person with vitamin d deficiency exhibit depressive symptoms? If so, why not?
zaheer12a 4y ago
Depression is multifactorial. Vitamin D deficiency is one of many factors that increase depression. So if that is the only problem you have, you probably will not be depressed.
deterlaettis 4y ago
Well it kinda speaks for itself doesn't it? Vitamin D levels are how much energy you absorb from the sun (the most important thing in our existence).
Zenonlite 4y ago
There's a lot we do not know about brain chemistry and it's effect on the human mind. There are countless chemicals in your brain at various levels, constantly changing (probably different for each individual). There's not a lot of research right now, but there have been few studies on vitamin d deficiency and depression. However, it is a small part of the pie of the whole problem of major depression disorder.
Mylaur 4y ago
Looks like I know where to do research next
p3n1x 4y ago
Moral of the story, humans need sunlight. This part is a fact and the 'why' part should be 10% of the hamster concern until we know more. Trying to cheat mother nature at every turn is unhealthy (supplement addicts).
So many people were turned into cave dwellers from the overly exaggerated "skin cancer" scare (porn and video games also).
20 minutes a day of direct sunlight, do it if you can. Also, exercise!
The_Noble_Lie 4y ago
Indeed I do exercise (bike rides lately) and get sun daily. I havent been tested because I really dont support doctors invading my space, but I doubt I have a deficiency.
I just am in awe of how many speak without really knowing what they are saying. Vitamin D deficiency doesnt cause major depression disorder. Its a contributor, at best (correlation). Lack of sunlight exposure may cause depression. Its a contributor, at best, but a super set of the vitamin D concern. On this note, I would not be surprised if the sun does something more profound to our bodies/mind/consciousness than providing a precursor to a nutrient scientists have identified. The shaky conjecture that stems from the scientific observation (of vitamin D) is dehumanizing scientistism, like usual.
I dont expect anymore. They killed that "God" unrightfully too (Sun as God)
p3n1x 4y ago
Any unhealthy body is "depressed". Vitamin D depletion is unhealthy, yes. The problem is that we don't exactly know what the proper "values" are, just like testosterone levels. Obviously, single digits are bad, but what is good over a period of time.
Unhealthy bodies = unhealthy minds + time = chronic depression.
The issue is that OP gave us zero background to his "Felt down all day long" problem. So, did he have one bad day or multiple? I'm sure there was more to his depression than Vitamin D.
[deleted]
MarcosDomingues 4y ago
Dude wtf just get out of the house, it's summer
oiltank 4y ago
Correlation does not equal causation.
Some old studies from ages ago found that people that hadd high vit D levels were healthier than people with low vit D. The studies concluded that high vit D = better health and since then everyone (doctors included) love to preach vit D supplementation.
Recent studies have shown that most of the positive health markers shown on people with naturally high vitamin D are not at all related to the blood vit D levels at all but instead to the fact that these people are getting plenty of natural sunlight exposure (which consequently also raises vit D).
Some food for thought. Not everything is as it seems even when its "scientifically proven" by actual scientific literature.
Now Im not saying its ok to have your vit D levels sitting at 2 ng/dL but continuing to stay in your basement all day while popping vit D pills isn't going to make you magically healthier/more energetic. Go out, get some sun.
redditme789 4y ago
Where I am, temperatures run above 30 celsius on the daily, all year round. The sun is scorching and the heat unbearable; I can sweat within 5 minutes after I finish showering. Furthermore, I am fairly dark skinned and I get burned easily. How do I get enough sun for Vitamin D given these circumstances?
Magnum994 4y ago
You are completely right. I supplemented D3, went from low to high normal. No fucking change in how I felt. I started suntanning, guess what, I felt great, muscles started getting more toned. The only problem is that the rays that do this are UV-B, which make D levels go up, can also cause skin cancer, however as long as you regularly check your skin this is a non existent problem.
When you start supplementing D3, the body produces less of this antioxidant as a counter measure. The UV-B rays on the other hand improve the total antioxidant capacity in the body.
NomBok 4y ago
Sunlight ages the fuck out of you though. It might just be the visual exposure to light, not the skin exposure. You should do an experiment where you wear hella sunscreen when "tanning" and see if it still helps.
Herdsengineers 4y ago
Had a doc tell me I was Vit D deffecient too. Gave script for the supplements. I did a bit of research and decided to try to fix it without supplements via more time outside. In my case, it worked. I'm an outdoorsy guy anyway, win win all around for me. Had gotten too complacent and lazy, getting away from screens and electronics at home turned out to be a better thing for me than I would have thought prior.
Dionysus-VIOLENCE 4y ago
I was also deficient, my idiot doctor told me I was probably deficient before I took the test because its just THAT common. Everyone should take Vitamin D supplements, and not in the form of multivitamins but a dedicated supplement. It’s almost impossible to get enough through diet alone unless you revolve your diet around vitamin D.
grandmasbroach 4y ago
Magnesium too. Our soil use to have a lot more in it before rain became more acidic. Now, because the rain is acidic, it reacts with the magnesium in the soil and makes it inert, more or less. I supplement this as well.
Dionysus-VIOLENCE 4y ago
i take the supplements too, but i never have taken a test to see my magnesium levels. i have to take the supplement in the morning because if i take it at night my dreams become very bizarre
Mylaur 4y ago
What's a dedicated supplement? Oils?
Are multi vitamins through dry pills not enough?
I'm considering buying one or the other thanks to this thread but can't decide which is more important.
Dionysus-VIOLENCE 4y ago
Its just a supplement that is only for one vitamin, rarely are they ever in hard form like a multivitamin, they are usually liquid gel pills. I assume this helps with absorption.
Mylaur 4y ago
So you recommend specific vitamin D supplements I take it.
lukesterboi1 4y ago
Your doctor told you that you probably were deficient before you took the test (which you were since you have to be deficient before the test to be deficient during the test) yet he is the idiot? Or did you phrase that wrong
On a sidenote, both my neuro and my general practicioner told me I should take D, and my neuro finally got some labs done and I was deficient too. Let's [D]o this I guess
NomBok 4y ago
Pro tip: Take vitamin K along with vitamin D to prevent hyper calcemia. A good explanation I read is vitamin K ensures the Vitamin D goes where it needs to.
jrr6415sun 4y ago
why is your doctor an idiot when he told you the truth? A majority of people are deficient.

ChrimsonChin988 4y ago
Assuming your outdoors a couple hours per day you should be fine. I take them about 9 months per year and only skip summer. Or if I'm working on something for a couple of days and don't go outside much. (Netherlands)
Dionysus-VIOLENCE 4y ago
the sun myth is mainly BS, you need to be naked in the sun for several hours to get any meaningful amount of vit D. i don’t remember the numbers, you can look them up, but its been overhyped how much vit D you get from the sun.
riggedved 4y ago
Spending healthy time in the sun is (mostly) enough to maintain healthy levels of Vitamin D. The problem is, a bad diet makes you Vit-D absorption capacity really low, which is why so many people are caught up in the Vitamin D epidemic.
A bad diet, and/or, good diet but too much eating, is almost exclusively the reason for most modern day health ailments.
lusdee 4y ago
That’s not entirely true.. sun exposure is the most available form of D you can get and how much sun exposure you need will depend on your genetics..
If you are pale and get burnt easily, 20 mins daily will give you all the D you need. Darker skin and more specifically African descendants will need several hours every day to absorb enough.
ZHammerhead71 4y ago
That's not the only reason. Vitamin D is created from the reaction of cholesterol and uv rays.
Yes. Being in the sun fights heart disease.
BaLahKie 4y ago
This is kind of an exaggeration. Sun exposure can definitely really increase your vitamin D levels, but not just from like walking from your car to the office and from your car to your house/apartment. You need to be outside hanging out in it but you certainly don’t need to be naked for several hours.
Simpman4 4y ago
So how are men supposed to get it naturally? All vitamins can be attained naturally (and the right amount)
James_Rustler_ 4y ago
Shellfish, tuna, salmon and other fish, eggs, milk, fortified oatmeal and cereal. If you eat a healthy diet of whole foods with an occasional seafood meal you should be good.
[deleted] 4y ago
Keep protein and starch separate for adequate digestion
[deleted]
__ROOSTER__ 4y ago
naturally youre supposed to be naked....
Simpman4 4y ago
Yeah gotcha. So we can assume more than 90 percent of the male population are not getting enough vitamin D?
Dtris 4y ago
Iirc it is 100iu of D for every 5% of skin exposed to direct sunlight for 15 minutes if you are Caucasian. Light through glass doesn’t count, if you are wearing sunscreen it doesn’t count, and if you are north or south of the 35th parallel I believe you only get vitamin d from the sun in the summer. Exact length of time varies by how far north you are.
Luckily the liver stores vitamin d as well as vitamin a. Making liver one of the best food sources.

My levels weren’t as low as yours, but I was deficient. My levels are normal now. I can’t tell if I feel different but you probably will since you are severely deficient. I believe all fatigue I had in that period of time was mental and not physical (your case is obviously different).
There are charts that show you how long you need to take a certain strength of Vitamin D to raise levels. You should be loading a lot of Vitamin D and check again in a month or so to see how much you improve.

Vitamin D, A, and K2 are all necessary cofactors of each other, and supplementing A or D is often toxic without adequate levels of the other. See https://www.westonaprice.org/is-vitamin-d-safe-still-depends-on-vitamins-a-and-k-testimonials-and-a-human-study/
Recommendation: cod liver oil for A and D + K2 supplement. See https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/cod-liver-oil/cod-liver-oil-basics-and-recommendations/ and https://chrismasterjohnphd.com/blog/2016/12/09/the-ultimate-vitamin-k2-resource/

K2 increases absorption and prevents calcification, d3 works well without k2. I took 10k UI daily/2 months and increased my d3 in blood from 20 to 60. Where did you read about: ”works only with k2”?
NomBok 4y ago
Sounds like a mis translation tbh
PickUpScientist 4y ago
you mentioned it, but it bears repeating. if you get vitamin d supplements, get vitamin D3. D2 is swill. it satisfies the fda "daily nutritional requirements", but is not as bioavailable as D3, and will not be as readily absorbed. if you take a multivitamin, make sure it has D3 or both.

What role does dark hair play in the amount you take?

I’m brown hair and 100% Northern European. I know the skin tone matters but I don’t think hair color does...
hearse223 4y ago
You get vitamin D just from being out in the sun.
brokenB42morrow 4y ago
Everyone who is taking vitamin D, how much do you take, and how do you make sure youre not taking too much?
allsam18 4y ago
dark hair people 10000 UI daily, other 5000 UI, always take with 200 mg of vitamin K2
Ballosaurus 4y ago
That’s not in line with current recommendations. Do you have a source?
allsam18 4y ago
my source is charles poliquin, i have read 4 his books on training and supplements ))
juice_bomb 4y ago
I soak my skin in the sun 10-15 minutes most mornings to wake up naturally and get my vitamin d intake

Any specific Vitamin D? D1, D2, D3 ect?
Diablo-D3 4y ago
When someone says Vitamin D, without a number after, they mean D3. There are (at least) 5 vitamers of D, and D3 is the only one important for human biology; mushrooms are high in D2, and the body converts D2 directly to D3, and the old D2 products on the market have been long replaced with D3 due to improvements in manufacturing techniques.

Get on testosterone injections if you have legitimate levels of low testosterone. Makes a world of difference.
Soalian 4y ago
I'm considering it at 27, how old are you and what were your levels? in my case, I didn't recover properly from early AAS cycles, I'm still in the game, I am considering TRT wich would give stable levels as a cruise so that I can up the dosage whe nI decide to go on a cycle
dza76wutang 4y ago
I have been taking 7k IU daily for years. It's so cheap considering what it does.
mrtelephone 4y ago
Do you really need to be told it's beneficial to go outside and get some sunlight?
EramSumEro 4y ago
It's common knowledge but can be a challenge to do everyday when you're working fulltime, living in Phoenix where it's 110 outside, and taking night classes.
Not saying you're wrong but a multivitamin is the next best option it seems.
HairyLeek 4y ago
I cannot stress this enough. Get all your vitamins and also micronutrients checked. Especially D and B. I had a burn out/depression for like 4 years till I found a good doctor. Turns out my vitamin and micronutrient levels were way too low due to a COMT-Gene polymorphism.
Get this shit checked asap if you have symptoms of depression and our burnout. Don't take antidepressants too early!
Protocol_Apollo 4y ago
Agreed, think some doctors thee days are saying that almost everyone should take a vitamin d supplement daily 365 a year.
Everyone in the West (UK and US) should be taking it for the winter months REGARDLESS of skin colour since there’s not enough sunlight in the day. During winter in London, sun rises at like 7 sets at 5 if not earlier. That combined with most people not even spending 30 mins outside everyday means you have to supplement vitamin D.
Now, if you are darker skinned, the western summers probably aren’t enough for your vitamin D needs, these guys DEFINITELY have to supplement everyday (unless you spend most of your day outside like a builder).

Can you share what supplements you are currently taking

this happened to me as well. I bought some super strong once a week supplement off amazon. Felt noticeably better.
AltezaHumilde 4y ago
Everyone should take every morning a full Trptofan, D-Vitamin, B1-12 Vitamins, A, C, vitamin complex, most of them, if you "overdose" you will pee the non necesary amount...
xXSoroxXx 4y ago
Use the app dminder to track your D levels and record sun sessions. Been using it for a while, works great.
L3T 4y ago
The sun is also just really great. For mood and vitamin D. Just go sit out in the sun for at least 15min each day.
zaheer12a 4y ago
15 min a day is really not going to make enough vitamin D. We're supposed to be out in the sun a large part of the day

Lol go outside and get some natural vitamin D then. I didn't realize laziness and apathy was a symptom of vitamin D deficiency. I feel lazy sometimes too, but I don't blame it on lack of Vitamin D. Show some science behind that.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
bro im not going to prove nothing to you, you go do your own research and come to your conclusions, im just saying its something to keep in your mind, if you want a real opinion go to a doc
Im not blaming it on anything also, I didnt even know about it until my doc told me, so you're saying my doc lied to me? Im just sharing that its working and other people could get it checked
Captain_Quick 4y ago
He had his levels tested and they were too low. That's the science.
The_Noble_Lie 4y ago
Id be interested in how many people test for vitamin d deficiencylt but are not "depressed"
CryptoViceroy 4y ago
Very good point OP, and this is especially pronounced in the winter.
I had a similar problem several years back, I'd get very depressed and lethargic throughout the winter months.
A family member suggested I get some Vitamin D supplements and ever since then I take them all year round.
Virtusvitium 4y ago
To fix a vitamin D deficiency, make sure to take vitamin D3, K2, and Magnesium. Otherwise your pissing them away.
V1NDUS 4y ago
I take a vitamin D supplement everyday for this very reason.
[deleted] 4y ago
This might be a stupid question, but does taking it once everyday have side effects?
Andrea_Arlolski 4y ago
Not a stupid question. Vit D almost certainly gives me vivid nightmares. It's strange. I'll still take it though I recently dropped my dose a lot so as to not get those dreams.
Balea2019 4y ago
I will also add that if possible try to get some sunlight anyways. Some studies (I need to find the link) have pointed added benefits from sunlight exposure when controlled for vit D levels.
VigilantCMDR 4y ago
I have horrible allergies too, do you have any recommendations to help those?
PotatoWatt 4y ago
Went to so much docs about it because of my skin problem mixed with my allergies its just horrible, but this was when I was little, now that im older its mostly only the usual sneezing and runny nose, it depends on the season a lot aswell but what i've been doing is: Nothing. Stack up on tissues and hold it. I dont take meds for it because they fuck up your immuno system and I dont like it, life is life, just get used to it. In my case after my college degree i'll move from europe to the states cause of family and in the states the pollen im alergic to isnt as present so I should be better
Xogenn 4y ago
Promoting pills... Fuck that, eat meat and blood. Stop sugar.
PotatoWatt 4y ago
caveman dude, chill, you're like the antivaxxer dudes, if you think you are right good for you but as you can see your opinion is not shared by most
[deleted]
Lebrons_runaway_hair 4y ago
It’s vitamin D dude not opioids. What’s wrong with that?
Xogenn 4y ago
Yeah, buy pills from the pharmacy. It is what humans need. Humans aren't a wheelchair species. If we needed these pills we would be extinct before we invented them.
The_Noble_Lie 4y ago
Because its better to not take pills. Its not easy and some may have bad genes or live in non optimal location/climate. So yea, I dont think its a black/white thing
Lebrons_runaway_hair 4y ago
Who the hell gets vitamin D from a pharmacy? This isn’t something you’re prescribed, you just go get it. Protein powder is a supplement as well, and our ancestors didn’t drink protein shakes.. should we not drink them either? We don’t NEED them
Xogenn 4y ago
Yeah, why don't you eat meat for protein?
Voyaller 4y ago
Yeah because meat and blood will fix this shit.
Xogenn 4y ago
Cut out all the shit and eat like your ancestors 10000 years ago like a real human but without starvation because you are born in the 2000.
Voyaller 4y ago
My ancestors were barely making to 20 years.
The_Noble_Lie 4y ago
Average is not indicative of the life span if you make it to early adult hood. (Many more babies and toddlers died)
Xogenn 4y ago
Sucks to have your genes then.
