He stated as he used his laptop with the fastest internet connection available to share his thoughts as opposed to writing it on a piece of paper and stapling it to a telephone pole.

This is a flip side thought we all need to remember. Just because you banged a 9 once doesn't mean your life is a failure because you're back at 7 now. Stay humble and remember to work hard for what you get but not be trapped in the rat race.

I'm not even sure what the article's point even is. The hedonistic treadmill is nothing new.
It boils down to "You eventually get used to it."
What is it? Everything. If you are wildly successful, live in a mansion, go on vacations constantly, you eventually get used to it. You'll need something more to feel the same high. It keeps you from becoming complacent.
Conversely, say you're poor, live in a one room shack, go on zero vacations... you eventually get used to it. It keeps you from becoming suicidal. The hedonistic treadmill is, in terms of evolution, pretty straightforward. It keeps animals from becoming complacent or losing the will to live, either of which would be bad. If the article is denying the hedonistic treadmill it's just flat out wrong.

If we were to loosely assign "making yourself and your achievements better" as Western cultural edict and "just experiencing life as it comes" as, say, Nordic cultural edict...
As much as the article itself is a warm fecal slurry, there's something to the idea that TRP will always trend more towards the Western masculine demand of "take what you can from life," while the Nordic feminine demand of "receive the gift of life" is the bent of thinkpiece toiletpaper like this one.
Banal or not, article advises the reader to be more feminine.

Agreed.
This reeks of the same stench of Buddhist pacifists who stubbornly insist that even in the face of genocide and oppression, the only correct path to happiness is accepting the universe as it is and finding peace with your lot.
Fuck that.
Even the self-obsessed narcissist that thinks the world is literally not enough for him will one day be able to look back and smile at what he had achieved.
Sure, taking time to smell the roses and appreciate yourself is important too. But you can do that without ever once becoming passive.
"Enough" for me, personally, is all about working/growing at or near my optimal capacity, and being happy while doing so. That is the ONLY thing that brings me peace. I MUST utilize the strength and the intelligence I was given, even if only for selfish ends.
"One must imagine Sisyphus as happy."

blue piller don't self improve.
I think we all agree Manson is successful: money, fame, ltr, he is in good shape i guess and had his lot sex partner.
His post is about happiness: why do you self improve? Is it worth your time? Remember the Pareto ratio: if you spend 80% of your time to improve an existing skill of a few percentage, is it worth it? He took the example of djing: he could learn and be in the mass of very mediocre amateur dj OR he could write a good book.
It's about making choice. This article is intended to accomplish redpiller, which few of us are, or we won't be commenting a reddit post.

Where did i write the success is amassing money and spending it on pleasure? You should simplify your language and express properly your ideas.
Where Manson point in the opposite direction? He doesn't say anything about imposing his will, neither doing what the others are asking.
Please, your comment is totally off topic.

happiness: a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment.
hedonism: the pursuit of pleasure; sensual self-indulgence.
materialism: a tendency to consider material possessions and physical comfort as more important than spiritual values.
Nietzscheism: the philosophy of Nietzsche, emphasizing the will to power as the chief motivating force of both the individual and society.
You mix all of them in your argumentation, without understanding the meaning of the words.
happiness is not hedonism
materialism is not fame, ltr, being fit. It has nothing to do with the main topic.

Can you give us a summary of this article? Your thoughts? Did you gain any insights from this? Why should I read this? Are you just trying to promote you blog? Who are you?
Teto3001 5y ago
This is definitely not his blog.
Cheddar_Curtain 5y ago
I don't have a blog, blogging is mostly gone in 2019. It all gets lost in the web sewers. There are a few who hold on with way better writing and topic skills than I have. These days everything is Instagram three second video type shit or podcasts. People don't have the attention span to read anything in depth anymore. They want the summary, the highlights.
I don't know the author, I haven't ever read any other pieces of his except this one. I came across it randomly and thought maybe the Red Pill needs to see that sometimes being in the top 25% in regards to income, assets, quality of women you bang, etc is not a bad place to be. That would mean 3/4 people you see on the street are below you socially, economically, etc.
It's a meditation on why chasing the dragon is bullshit. Life is a constant struggle to stay above water and we can't all be 1% types. Once you're already 'comfortable' and established why sit and keep fucking worrying about your next move? You make all the moves early so you can chill later.

Mark Manson is completely blue pill
jonpe87 5y ago
This is like a budhist saying that you need to seek enlightment. Before hear about that your life was fine, but after hear about enlightment you think you need a solution to a problem that you didn't have in first place. "I have the solution for this problem that you didn't have, but now you do."
Cheddar_Curtain 5y ago
Yes, infinitely. Red Pillers should be reading a lot of Buddhism books. Really helps clear your head of garbage.
Edit: A lot of other people in the comments are complaining this is blue pill garbage. No. If you learn about Buddhism you learn that happiness is within, not what you own or who you bang.
jonpe87 5y ago
That is utterly bullshit and mindless masturbatorium for lazyness. Go be happy as a poor homeless then. Maybe it can serve you, but not me. I bought this narrative in my 20s and had lost a lot of my time.

This article does not belong here. This is the kind of stuff that allows one to validate his mediocrity.

Mark Manson is part of the recommended reading here. But the caveat is that, you only get to understand his shit when you have fully taken care of the basics: Frame, physique, abundance, mastery. I'm not sure though, that it is possible to really have fully taken care of all these things as these are supposed to be never ending. People are here because we are pushed to do something to make ourselves better. Mark Manson does not belong here. When his work is read by newbies, it validates them, it makes them think doing nothing is ok. You die when you stop reaching.

But food for thought though: is it possible for someone, to live BLUE for a long time, learn and internalize RED, reach the heights, and make a conscious and objective choice to live BLUE even when armed with RED knowledge, and not give a fuck on how bad BLUE was because this time, it was a conscious choice and not a result of social conditioning?

I don't know. Please shed some light, especially those who push Mark Manson's work.
