I've got a lot of request to write a guide about how to dress and to talk about my style etc. and today I found the time to write it down. This guide is for the new red pillers but also for older ones who wan't to try the smart casual look. Also, I'll make this guide as the reader does not have a lot of money, if you do have money, multiply the number of things.

Basically the scope of this guide is to make you look successful (even if you are only on the way to being successful) and different, so you can stand out from the crowd.

We'll begin with the body shape. If you are really overweight you should first loose weight. It's might be tough to say it but new clothes won't make a big improvement and since you want to lose weight, there is no point in buying expensive/new clothes that you won't be good for you in a couple of months/ a year.

My favorite style it's smart casual (I'll explain what this is if you don't know). I always dress smart casual or business (and formal when the environment requires that) and this is the style I'll talk about.

So let's talk about the smart casual look. The main idea behind this look is that you must look one level above your usual casual outfit, and I'll teach you how.

Why would you do this?
- Because you will be above the 80% of guys who just wear a t-shirt, some jeans and their new balance shoes (yes, get rid of your new balance shoes). But that does not mean it's not ok to wear a t-shirt and some jeans. Actually if you have a good body shape and you are full of muscles, a t-shirt and some jeans that fit you are everything you need, combine that with some cool boots and a leather jacket and you are good to go.
- Because you will look professional, cool, and richer than you actually are (you should aim to become rich, but the right look could give the people the impression you have a lot more money than you have).
- You will feel more confident when you are dressed well, and after you'll get your validation (everybody need validation at the beginning of their journey) you will interact with girls without much trouble (it won't fix your interaction problems, but it will be a great boost).
So now let's start with some quick tips:
- Wear a watch. An empty wrist is a no go.
- Match your leather. If you wear leather shoes, match it with your belt and the belt of your watch.
- Wear jeans/pants that fit you, not too tight, not too large. Find the pair that fit you.
- Wear shirts that fit you.
- Make sure your shirt's color is a good match with your jeans/pants (I'll talk about it later).
- Throw away your new balance shoes (I'm serious).
- Don't wear lame jackets. Wear a blazer, a vest, stuff like that.
- If it's hot outside go for a linen shirt.
- If you don't wear a blazer, keep your sleeves rolled up (trust me).
- Don't wear short sleeved shirts if you are not near a pool (don't ask why).

Now let's go into details.

Your watch:
If it's your first watch and you don't want to buy more than one watch, go for a black diver watch with a metal band. It's good for all your outfits.
My recommendations for a diver watch according to your budget:
- Less than 100$: Invicta 8926 Automatic (or Wenger Sea Force if you find it on sale).
- 100-200$: Orient Mako 2 Automatic
- 300-400$: Look for an Atlantic quartz diver watch, and you can't go wrong. You can also look into an Seiko automatic if you are passionate about watches, but if you are, probably this guide is not for you.
- \~1000$: Longines Hydroconquest
- Money not a problem: Rolex Submariner
Now for those who are willing to buy more watches, you will need:
- One diver watch. (see above)
- One dress watch. (Something to look like Rolex Datejust/Longines Conquest/Seiko 5, if you are wondering).
- One exercise watch as I like to call them. Military watches that you can wear while in gym or while doing labor work.
Get both with a metal band. Those who are willing to get their watch game even more right could also get watches with leather belts that they will match with their outfits, as stated above.

Your footwear:
First thing you should buy is a pair of casual leather shoes, meaning the shoes should be black, and their base (If that's the word, English is my third language so sorry about that) should be a different color, a light brown for example.
Also you should get a pair of black Chelsea boots, they are great for rainy/cold weather and look good with everything.
After you get these two items you can go for the same things, but in brown color.
Basically you'll have your black leather combination and brown leather combination, and in each combination you'll need: a belt, a pair of shoes, a pair of boots, a watch with a leather belt that matches the color of the other items.

Shirts:
You are going to leave your house 7 days a week, so you will need at least 9 shirts (so you can interchange them) + 1 "good" shirt for special events that you'll wear with your suit (you'll need at least one suit, will go into that later). You are a beginner, go for safe colors, like black, white, light blue etc. and you should be fine. After you feel more confident you can go for some shirts that make you stand out. For example I wear from time to time shirts like this. You'll probably say: "That looks like a shirt that a douche will wear", but trust me, in combination with the right eyewear, blazer and pants, it's a killer look that will make you stand out. Basically it says: "fuck you, I'm different, I'm here, I feel good".
Also, one extra thing, if you have the money, buy one US POLO shirt, that you introduce into your daily shirts interchange. Why? Because it's easy to be recognized and people know it's an above average shirt, so you wearing it casually in a day at work or wherever you go will leave the impression that it's just what you wear (again, this is for guys who don't have a lot of money, if you have money that's not a problem).

Sweaters:
Have 3-4 sweaters that you'll wear above your shirts on cold days. (If you can buy one US POLO sweater, that would be great, see above why). This dude got it right.

BTW, I should state why I keep mentioning US POLO: It's because it is well known by everyone, and everyone knows it's a little more expensive than you usual Mall brands. It's like with Rolex, a Rolex is cheaper than an Audemars Piguet or a Patek, but not all people knows those brands, while everybody knows Rolex.

Jeans:
Have at least one pair of dark blue jeans. After that you should buy one black pair of jeans, and after that you can start buying whatever you like. The jeans should fit you. Don't go for skinny jeans. I personally wear straight fit jeans, and sometimes slim fit if I like how they look, but never go for those women like extra tight jeans, never. After you have two pairs of jeans you can try buying chinos in different colors for your outfits.

Blazers:
The first blazer you should buy should be dark blue, something like this (btw, see how that guy is dressing? that's how you want to dress). After that buy a gray one, then a beige one. Black blazers don't really go well with smart casual outfits from what I've noticed.

Suits:
Have at least on suit. If you can afford only one suit, it should be black. If you have only one suit, don't over wear it. You will need it for interviews, funerals and other stuff like that. If you buy a suit, tailor it, spend a couple more bucks and it will show the difference. How it should look like after being tailored? This guy got it right. Watch the video, he'll explain the basic stuff.

Vests:
Here I'll talk about two types of vests. Those like this and those like this. The suit vests are optional, I like the style, I like how they make you stand out, but if you don't like them then it's ok. But you should buy the second type of vest, black or dark blue, where it when it's a little cold outside. It gives you a nice look, again, it's part of the "rich" look. Wear it with over a shirt and you are good to go.

I think I'll end the part 1 here since it's getting to long. If you want a part 2 let me know.
Greaterbird 5y ago
Body shape note is a big one. The better you look, the more you can get away with wearing just about anything.

Casio Edifice EQB-501XBL-2AER is my personal favorite watch, which I spend around 400 $ around an year ago. It's stylish and when someone watches it more carefully you will certainly receive compliments from both sex.

Also I love the fact that is casual stylish and is good for both official and casual ventures.

When I was a young gun, fresh out of law school and ready to conquer the planet, I bought all the latest labels - Boss, Armani, Ferragamo ... and it got me nowhere. Nobody gave a shit what the label inside my suit said. They cared about whether I was confident, whether I knew my shit, whether I followed through on my word, and whether I didn't look like a retard/slob (which goes to confidence).
Now that I'm a seasoned 53, I can tell you the advice in this post is solid even at my age. Stick to the classic basics, don't look like a middle aged wanna-be Parrothead clown (Tommy Bahama I'm looking at you ...), have a few nice accessories (my grandfather's 1950s classic Patek is a great conversation starter). They're classics/basics for a reason.
In a literal sense, my current wardrobe is a stack of black and grey T shirts, a few pairs of nice fitting jeans, a pair of "going out" jeans, a suit and a few dress shirts, you get the idea. I dress to accent my body, not to impress someone with the labels on my socks. It's also my personality - calm, conservative, confident, not flashy, and I just don't give a fuck about "the latest fashion" that some ... in NYC tells me I need to wear.
My general advice: buy something that you think you'll still want to wear in five years. If you have a closet full of clothes you don't wear because they're not the "cool" color anymore, the cut isn't in style any more (think: parachute pants!), you're doing it wrong.
zyqkvx 5y ago
51 here. Couldn't have said it better.
I would like to add (I don't know if I can speak for you but I'm guessing you agree) that all the clothes I own have no logos. Clothes with prominent logos, or tee shirts with graphics/writing on them look like shit. I also promptly remove from a new car the auto dealers license plate frame and replace it with a plain silver frame. 'Toyota of Costa Mesa' on my license plate frame just tells people I'm not mindful, and I'm a tool. Also it's tacky looking and treating people like you don't care how many commercials they have to see every day.

This is a good guide if you're (about to be) a young professional. Depending on your field. Some fields are a bit more casual though.
A lot of the principles still apply though. Getting in shape first. Importance of fit. Starting out with fundamental pieces. Nine shirts, go neutral if beginner, go bold if advanced. Two jeans. Diver watch.
All in all, helpful piece for the right person OP.
[deleted]
_do_not_read_this_ 5y ago
"Diver" is the style of watch based loosely on watches actual divers used to wear. It's big and bold and draws attention. Throw his recommended styles into the google machine and see what they look like.

My guess is that a decent, not too flashy Diver style watch can be worn casually and dressed; whereas a pure dress-style watch doesn't look right worn casually.
Davidfosford 5y ago
im a male model, and i can say this with confidence
this formulaic way off dressing is boring, and allot of girls see past it.
There is no rule to fashion after you know what youre doing.
This guide is better than dressing in target clothing

but as an actual guide to being fashionable, it misses the mark.
People that know actual fashion are far beyond this.

and p.s there is nothing wrong with short sleeve shirts, you just have to know what shirts to buy.
Nicolas0631 5y ago
Man you are a model, you master this. This here is a guide to get started, not spend much time or money on it and get 80% of the result for 20% of the effort. You insight are interresting but shall be used when you already got the basics right and if you are interrested in the topic.
thrownawayisland 5y ago
Got any recommended reading? Sounds like you know your shit.
Auvergnat 5y ago
The problem with that sort of guide is that they're made by people who have been doing up their wardrobe for so long that they don't remember what it feels like to start from zero. And so you end up with guides that start by choosing a watch...
My tips would go like this:
Nicolas0631 5y ago
Don't worry to get an expensive watch. Fully agree. Anyway nobody care or know the brand except 2-3 stupidly expensive one like Rolex.
But get one that look great on you anyway. It doesn't have to be on day 1, agree, but no need to wait 10 years neither. You can keep to a single one that look great and has reasonable price.
Raknith 5y ago
If you're wearing polo you want to wear Polo Ralph Lauren, not US Polo Assn.

Different strokes for different folks op, I liked the general concept of this but everyone across RP are in different professions and different locations. No one style is better than another just as long as you don’t dress like a mongoloid you should be fine. I’m sure there are plenty of guys in these comments who also have sound advice on it.
L0nerizm 5y ago
This is good if that is you’re style or work in a professional Corp environment, but people should dress for their personality rather than all this one style no matter what. Also the no short sleeve thing is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Truedemocracy4 5y ago
Shirts with a collar generally show providership. Once you get a good body the best weapon in your arsenal is a well fitting vneck shirt and dark jeans, trust me on this. Dress like you want to fuck her, not do her taxes

I'm going to play Devil's advocate.
What? >>> ignore hot tips and move on^(1)
Alright thanks for letting me know /s. Watches are classy but I won't lose sleep at night if I don't have one. Your floral pattern shirts and zesty vests aren't necessary either, as you said. Definitely not masculine.
This may be harsh, but if I want to look like a try-hard wierdo with nothing better to do, I would read this post again and then head to MFA...which is exactly where this came from.
I have yet to see a style guide for redpillers that is simple, masculine, and has all the fanboy nonsense stripped out. Maybe I'll write it myself someday, but don't hold your breath because I'll probably be lifting, reading, or working on my business. Guys, take what you will from this post, but not too seriously.
^1 please don't even bother to explain this, I don't want to know
chadthethrowaway 5y ago
I’m probably younger than most of the guys here, I’m 19. I don’t know about you but I just follow the basics of the YouTuber teachingmens fashion/ alpha m. They have decent guides on how clothes should fit , and basic outfits

Really "masculine" Masculine is whatever the fuck I wear and how I wear it. Fashion is fun once you stop taking it so seriously. Lean the basics then freebase from there. It's really rather simple.

Wear good fitting shirt.
Wear good fitting pants.
Wear nice shoes.
Have a nice belt that matches shoes.
Have a watch.
Don't be fat.
Groom hair.
Brush teeth.

Boom there's your no nonsense guild on how not to dress like a loser. Having a killer style on the other hand is learned through trial and error.

WalterEArmstrong 5y ago
What's wrong with penny loafers, white socks, high water jeans and a white T shirt?!! I almost forgot, no belt!!
miserablesisyphus 5y ago
I like most of this, but disagree with a few:
1) Never wear a vest (waistcoat) unless you're wearing a suit with it. Same goes for ties. Never wear a tie unless you're wearing a jacket. Wearing a vest without a jacket makes you look like you are serving drinks.
2) As for shoes, I personally really dislike chelsea boots, but everyone has their own style. I probably would go with a Chukka over chelsea boot. Also, New Balance does have some nice stylish shoes -- i'm assuming you're referring to the classic new balance dad shoes? I'd probably add a casual shoe in there as well, like chuck taylors, etc.
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
Yeah. I'm talking about the dad shoes.

I just googled Ryan Gosling style and used it as template.
trumplethinskins 5y ago
Ryan Gosling has the cred (and cash) to pull this kind of look off when he files like being a Hollywood socialite.
He's also in the top 0.0001% of men, regardless of what he's wearing.

Does this post apply also to people in their early twenties? It's a good post, don't get me wrong, but it looks like a post for an older audience then those around my age (20).
Nicolas0631 5y ago
Should apply the day you start getting a job and mixing with non students to me.
Even as a student, it has value, especially when you are not in a student env. Remember that men in their early twenties are low value and women prefer older guys so that not completly stupid to look like a 28 years old guy rather than looking like a teenager.

No one style is better than another. I’d suggest finding what works for you personally. Take care of yourself & everything should be fine. But within moderation, we all know what works and what doesn’t depending on the occasion.
Nicolas0631 5y ago
You should have the style that fit your env otherwise you get into trouble. Wearing casual outfit in finance job or wearing a suit at a rock festival are not the best choices !
Of course you can have your own style, you can even standout, but it is much better if people don't think you look is completely out of place.
Even if you love punk style, you would avoid to show that when you work as a trader during the work hours.
Kurush559 5y ago
There's so much I could say about this but my first thought is 'none of this matters at ALL if you're hot and jacked'. Seriously. I can't believe people spend that much money on clothes thinking it's important. What I WILL say, is that it definitely makes a difference if your career success depends on this kind of dressing.
Seriously, guys, no amount of this advice will be useful if you're not jacked, and if you are, it hardly matters whether you have a watch or fancy shoes.
However, I am very interested in style and clothing, so I would say to those that are interested - it's very useful to have a 'look'. Your look. Something that helps people know who you are as a person and matches you. For some of you it might be a fancy watch with a paisley shirt and well-fit chinos. For some of you it might be a tight Henley and levis. Mine is skinhead/mod fashion because its what I grew up on. To any of you guys interested in edgier stuff like skinhead, punk, whatever, it's AMAZING if you're hot. Edgy alternative indie girls are into it because its what they like, and posh high class girls love it because it makes them feel rebellious and cool when they haven't had the chance before.
Nicolas0631 5y ago
I remember from a book on charisma:
1) Body language
2) Look (including of course clothes)
3) Title
All shall be suited to the group of people you are with/target. The Smart Casual is the type of look that would apply to most situations but isn't universal of course.
SalporinRP 5y ago
I used to be very into all these streetwear brands in high school/freshman year of college thinking it made me look really cool.
In sophomore year I went from a skinny 150 to a lean muscular 180 in the span of about 12-14 months. After my transformation I really scaled back my spending on clothes because I was a poor college kid. Went back to the basics, t-shirts, button downs, jeans/chinos/joggers, etc. I had so much more success with women looking buff in a plain white tee and some slim fit joggers than I ever did in some stupid streetwear brand.
Kurush559 5y ago
You do you man. I just like representing my roots
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
I agree. I mentioned somewhere in my post that the most important thing is to get in shape, then everything will look good on you. Or almost everything.
But this guide was made for guys like I was when I discovered TRP at 18 years. I had to find my style with trial and error. And I find this style to be the best for "lookmaxing" if you are at the beginning of your Journey, and is perfect for every one in my opinion. You can't go wrong with a smart casual look.
Kurush559 5y ago
Hmm
I'm conflicted on this one - I sort of see what you mean, but I struggle to imagine this being the best advice for a young college age guy who has no idea about fashion. Even in the most prestigious universities (I went to one) men don't dress like this because its a look for 30+ year olds. I know it would make a guy stand out, but not in a good way. Not just that, but what kind of 20 year old guys have the money for this kind of look?
Nicolas0631 5y ago
You are right in the sence you shall dress like the top tier of people of your group. If you dress very different than your group, it will not be appreciated.
But as men are much more appreciated when they are 30 years old than 20, there quite some value even at university to go at least halfway there.

A Rolex is to watches as Bose speakers are to audiophile style sound, as Dom is to Champagne ...
TLDR: it's a decent watch that looks good but costs too much, more marketing and hype than top quality.
Nicolas0631 5y ago
Objectively a watch today has no pratical use for 99% of people, except for the look.
Nobody care how accurate and interrestingly, the more expensive one are far from being the best at giving the time. The more accurate device for managing your time if your smartphone by far.
Buying a watch with better and more accurate time is useless and an escuse in today world.

That said, if there's a style Rolex you like, and you can afford it, get it for yourself. They do make some nice looking watches, it's just a general principle in the watch collecting community that they're overpriced because they're more about marketing the brand than the actual watch.

It's not really more of a chick magnet than just having a nice watch, and in fact can work against you if you're being obvious about trying to impress via status symbols.
HornsOfApathy 5y ago
Highly disagree.
Blue, navy blue.
Who the fuck wears black suits anymore except to a funeral or black tie event?
yeezusshityall 5y ago
In my field I often have events where I'm required to wear all black, black suit, black shirt, black tie, black socks, black shoes. But if you're not required to your "suit order" should probably be something like blue, grey, black in that order. Black shouldn't be your first suit for sure.
Truedemocracy4 5y ago
Yep black is dead. Navy for sure, grey as a secondary
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
You can wear a black suit at any event. Can you wear a navy blue suit at a black tie event or a funeral? That's the Point if you can afford only one suit.
Imperator_Red 5y ago
Nobody can wear any color suit to a black tie event because black tie events means tux.
SeasonedRP 5y ago
You wear a tuxedo, not a suit, to a black tie event. In the U.S., nobody wears black suits unless you want to look like a funeral director. I think you mean a charcoal gray suit. Some of them are quite dark and almost black. And I agree, a nice charcoal gray suit is a good choice for someone who is purchasing only one suit. If someone is getting one suit and it is charcoal gray, I'd also get a navy blazer for more casual occasions.
rpMadler 5y ago
This.
I can't speak for other parts of the world, but at least in much of the US, black suits should be avoided unless your job specifically requires you to wear that. Charcoal or dark gray would be the best bet if you're only going to have one suit. Those shades are serious enough for conservative businesses, somber enough for funerals, or can be livened up by a colorful shirt, tie, pocket square, etc. for lighter events.
HornsOfApathy 5y ago
You sound like a young fucking retard. Yes, you can wear a blue suit to a funeral. A black tie event? When are YOU going to one? I doubt seriously that you've even received an invite for one in your lifetime.
If you're writing a guide for the average dude, they need a blue suit WELL BEFORE a black one. It also negates your need to buy another blazer, as that suit blazer can be used casually as well.
Just watch TV. Tell me the ratio of good dressed men in black suits vs. other colors. Try.
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
First of all that kind of language shouldn't be used in an argument. No class at all.
And no, in my country at least you can't wear a blue suit to a funeral, because you will look like a moron. And yes, I've been at two black tie events in the last year, and from all my suits my most expensive one is the black one, because exactly at those events you must do a good impression.
From one of those events I landed a nice contract for a website. That's the point.
And again, please watch your language and stay classy.
[deleted]

Wow. Just wow. I don't give a fuck about my language. Did I hurt your fee fees more with another "fuck" in a sentence? Dude, you're not RP. Not at all if the first thing you do is respond with, "Oh please Mr. HornsOfApathy don't say dirty words here! It's not helpful!"

Ok dude, you got me. My fee fees are hurt. Like, really bad. I'm so upset because I aspire to be just like you. You're so great, how can I learn some more? If I can somehow manage to get to a black tie event, how do I land an awesome website design contract? Can you give me some tips?
I'm asking because for the last 10 years I've only managed hundreds of people that actually do work, like you. Maybe it's time for a refresher because I'm very clearly been out of touch with the business and social world. I just sit back in my armchair all day managing hundreds of people much smarter than me - especially about fashion.
No one said wear a blue suit to a black tie event. That's idiotic.
My argument still stands - a blue suit, if you only can afford one, is a better option than black. Fuck this digressed way too far for your butthurt mind all because I used some language that incited you. The BP you.
My advice still stands especially for young retards like you that are still peddling website design contracts.
Good luck dude.
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
I can only laugh at you claiming to be a ceo. With that atitude you wouldn't even be able to manage a couple of dudes at McDonald's. I don't claim on internet that I'm some bigshot ceo that spends his time on reddit(lol). I just say it as it is. I'm a 21 years old who works for himself as many hours as he likes per day. And yes. That means taking contracts and working on them. As any business.
So again. Thanks for any advice if it was well intended, if not, go fuck yourself.
PS: that's diplomacy, you should have learned it as a ceo, lol

Fashion guides are bloop AF. Basically how to be a good slave that stands out within the bloopers boundaries.

First of all, better a bare wrist than a watch worth less than $1k, second... Never ever ever wear US Polo Assn. That's a hoodrat brand. Polo, Vinyard vines, Burberry, or Lacoste only.

I prefer to dress and act like I'm homeless and broke
WalterEArmstrong 5y ago
That definitely keeps the gold diggers away.
gorebwn 5y ago
I honestly thinks it adds to the "?" factor. I drive an old truck, dress like I'm homeless, but I don't carry myself like that. Idk, I wish I had a cooler reason, but really I'm just lazy as fuck and don't care
WalterEArmstrong 5y ago
There's no excuse for laziness but the IDGAF I can roll with.
gorebwn 5y ago
Lazy when it comes go dressing myself*

I appreciate your effort here. For me, I can get away with small, slim fit v-neck t-shirts in almost any situation I find myself in. I have some really nice ones from Macy's, and some cheaper ones from H&M.
Of course, I'm 46 y/o, work remotely, lift like my life depends on it, and do everything I can to scare away Provider Hunters.
In other words, there are differing incentives here.

Black is literally the last colour of suit you should get, it matches with the least possible things in a wardrobe and is the least flexible suit. Your first suit should be navy or charcoal so you can wear it to just about any occasion (except black/white tie, which most people never attend anyway)
unless you REALLY now what you are doing with your style, a black shirt will make you look like a waiter. If you are white it will also make you look pale. If it doesn't fit you like an ace, you are most likely going to look like a tryhard edgelord.
you seem to have a certain fixation on black. why would casual leather shoes have to be black? Best shoe to start out with is a brouge in brown as it can be worn with a pair of jeans and a suit (hint, not with a black suit though...)
I am not even going to touch the section about watches because assuming everyone needs a diver is just plain wrong. Nothing looks tackier than trying to wear something that looks like a Rolex. And an actual Rolex is admitting that one has more money than sense of style. They are the Baby-G for rich people.
SalporinRP 5y ago
No I'm gonna ask why. First of all short sleeve shirts are comfy as fuck and secondly they show off your arms. I also live in an area that can hit 100 degrees in the summer on a very hot day. I ain't wearing a fucking long sleeve shirt.
Your_Coke_Dealer 5y ago
OP is not American; when he says shirts, he means button-downs. T-shirts, polos, and other more casual wear doesn’t count. Short-sleeve button-downs are great for wearing half open in Miami Beach or at an island dive bar, but they’re much harder to pull off in a day to day work environment. For the office, rolling up sleeves on a long sleeve shirt is usually a better look.
That said, if you’re fit, you can pull off a well-fitted short sleeve button down in the right climate. The problem is more so that fat guys in oversized short-sleeve button downs have made them look sloppy in general. Look at the character Batista from Dexter for an example of that
JacobM00re 5y ago
Short sleeved SHIRTS are for bus drivers. T-shirts and Polo shirts are fine.
buttgoogler 5y ago
If I'm near a pool, I'm going shirtless though. If you've been working your ass in the gym, there's no reason for you to wear anything above your waist.
Truedemocracy4 5y ago
Yea that advice is bs. Short sleeve v necks and polos are the way to go especially if you have arms. You need to show that shit off, most button downs even ones that fit toight will Jose it
[deleted] 5y ago
If not, you can float in the ocean and be called Bob.
....yeah, good point, if you have decent arms might as well show them off.
Vouch33r 5y ago
Why not roll sleeves? You can use the shirt in the winter if it has long sleeves, either
But seriously for each their own, rip the sleeves with your guns my man
SalporinRP 5y ago
Because why do I need to put up with the hassle of keeping my sleeves rolled up in the summer when I can just wear a short sleeve shirt. I have both in my wardrobe but the short-sleeve button down is the ultimate summer shirt. Can wear it just by itself, wear it open with a t-shirt undernearth, and if you're doing beach/BBQ stuff in the summer you can wear it unbuttoned with no shirt underneath to show off the abs.

Style is completely personal and one way doesn't suit all men.
nross368 5y ago
Well this whole post is a heap of bullshit. Make a post on fashion basics. Guys need the basics. Then they'll learn where to go from there. Most good fashion is more about variation on known trends more than sticking to one style.

Really..... dude..... really....... this is sad. You sound like you have shit style. Super boring and low effort.

Real fashion has nothing to do with fucking rules. Learn the basics then create your own style. Not this 10 quick ways to look successful without learning what it took bullshit. I've broken almost every rule on this list and get compliments on my style year round. Compliments in a hyper competitive fashion city. This may be stylish in a smaller city or a consumerist rich social group. But move to a large city and you'll look basic. You sound like you hang out with bankers, accountants, lawyers, doctors, or otherwise people that don't know fashion but what tv and advertisements tell them is fashion.

Go to a big city and hang around the big boys. This is shit fashion advice unless you're trying to look like every other poor sucker that thinks this is good style.

I'm laying into you because I care about this disaster of a post you call fashion advice.

Wearing a vest is a surefire way to show you have no idea what you are doing
[deleted] 5y ago
Unless what you're doing is packing heat.
buttgoogler 5y ago
Don't underestimate sunglasses. If you own a pair that actually fits your face, it will boost your look.
Also, keep your shoes clean at any cost. Leather, suede -- doesn't fucking matter. A man with dirty unkept shoes ain't getting no respect from anyone. You can wear shitty torn jeans, but if your brogues shine like your future you'll look like a total boss.
Speaking of suits, there's one crucial rule: you'll look better in a cheap-ass suit that fits your physique instead of 7k gucci suit that's not fitting you.
mindplaybyneo 5y ago
I agree with styles and how girls could get attracted to you. However if you are toned being simple and by just wearing a shirt attracts women a lot.

civilizedfrog 5y ago
You don't need this many shirts especially if you are starting out. 4 shirts is more than enough to go through a week. Get 2 whites, one in any shade of blue and one shirt in any conservative colour. White shirt can be used for formal and smart-casual which makes it absolute necessary in any male wardrobe.
Some other tips:-

What are your thoughts on services such as StitchFix?
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
Never tried it. It's not present in my country. I have a personal tailor that I found. Really cheap. Fixed a vest for under 10$ once and did a great job. Since then I go to her everytime.
OutsideTheCage3 5y ago
Someone was just asking me about this as well, so I wrote out fashion and clothes for players.

Chinos > Jeans is the current trend.
MatrixofLe3adership 5y ago
In general, don't be that guy constantly wasting money on the lastest shit.
SalporinRP 5y ago
Chinos can come in any color and are completely fine. they aren't going away any time soon. They're just colored khakis basically.
TheLegionnaire00 5y ago
I agree. But jeans are more versatile. And you need only 1-2 pairs. If you are short on Cash, go for jeans.
TRPmc117 5y ago
I would ague for one pair of jeans, and at least two pairs of chinos - dark grey and light grey or khaki. This is versatile enough to go with just about anything.

I never post here (gotta lurk and learn more) but please do post a part 2. I'm saving all useful posts in a self-improvement folder so that I have it on hand at all times. I appreciate your post.
