Intro
For a while now I have noticed a big issue with younger people. Being in my early 30s its odd because I'm not that far off from these people on the age scale. I was just in my 20s figuring out my life not to long ago. The digital age is destroying peoples critical thinking and problem solving skills. Youtube, Reddit, Google and other places give people a way to ask questions and get answers. There is a tremendous amount of value in this but unfortunely people have abused this and now look for the "How To" guide on how to pull your dick out and stick it in a vagina. How to study. How to read. How to figure out XYZ problem. Even worse people feel entitled to an answer and if they cannot find one to a nuanced problem it’s the end of the world. Fuck it this is to hard. I got news for you assholes with the attention span of a micropenis you need to start focusing and figure out things on your own. If you don’t your just a drone following other peoples instructions.
EDIT: THIS IS NOT TO SINGLE OUT ASKTRP. IT IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT IM TRYING TO GET AT HERE. THIS IS SOMETHING I SEE FREQUENTLY IN THE REAL WORLD NOT JUST REDDIT.

Information and you
To learn anything in life there has to be a starting point. A teacher teaches you math and gives you homework to do. You do the homework and instead of trying to solve the problem you look in the back for the answers or use (google calculator) now at days. Homework done. Good job you just robbed yourself on how to learn to figure out the math problem. Now the next time you get a math problem on a test and you have no answer sheet your fucked. The person who really wants to learn will use the answer as a reference and then sit there and figure out how to get the right answer. This could take, minutes, hours and even days before you the part of your brain clicks and you understand the concept.
Information is there for you to learn how to do things(and about things) but its also there for you to learn how to apply it. This is a daunting task for most people but until you sit there and figure it out whether it be math, game, lifting, or whatever you will never unlock that part of your brain needed to figure things out. You cannot be a real leader if you cannot problem solve. If you cannot problem solve you will not be able to critically think or think outside the box.
Man up to the challenge
Every time you encounter something difficult or something unknown to you there will be that part of your brain that tells you fuck it I'm not doing this. You need to tell that part of your brain to go fuck it self. Imagine the first time you hit the gym. You read Starting Strength now your going to apply it. You go to the gym and see all these other assholes lifting heavy weights and your just starting with the bar. You are awkwardly trying to get your form right. Awkwardly asking people to record you. Looking for answers on how to get your form right and adjusted the more you put weight on the bar. The only way your going to get good is by keep showing up and keep critiquing your self and figure out where you went wrong, why maybe your back rounded on that deadlift and then how to fix it. The point being is you need to focus, you need to discipline yourself to show up to the gym, pick up that book and read, take the time necessary to figure out that math problem and don’t stop until you have solved the problem. There will come a point in any problem where there is no straight forward answer. Your in to deep and the only way out of it is to quit or to figure it out on your own. The day you figure out your first complex problem in life is the day you made your first major step in the being an intelligent person and a step ahead of the rest. Its delayed gratification at its best but the reward and feeling of is like no other.
Invest in yourself
I have come across many people who wont use their money for career training, for a lifting coach, learn game you name it there is someone out there who knows it and knows it well and has training for whatever it is. You may not make a whole lot of money yet but instead of buying that pizza and beer and paying for that Netflix subscription maybe you go buy that training and invest your time in it. I like to think if I'm buying something that’s going to help me learn something or enhance what I already know its an investment in my self and my education. Do your research and find a reputable source with good reviews and put your money where your mouth is. It may hurt your pockets in the short term but in the long term it might make that wallet a whole lot thicker.
You don’t know everything
I have encountered way to many people who read an online post or googled something and read one article and act like t heir a fucking genius. No sorry your not. You may know a little bit but don’t be an asshole and think you know it all now. This is self defeating and only makes you ignorant in the long run. Be open to learning more because in this life you will always be learning. If you shut your mind off to that your fucked and will be like every other Tom, Dick and Beta Billy out there.
Go out and fucking try it
What does an engineer do after he has learned shit tons of theory? He tests it to prove the theory.
What do you do when you learn how to pass shit tests? You go out and try to pass shits tests
You read starting strength now what? Go to a fucking gym and start lifting
Start testing things out from the information you have spent time learning and understanding. Chances are you will fuck things up the first couple times even though in theory this should have worked. Find where you went wrong and try again. The first time I really started learning game here it sounded easy. Open, Push/Pull, Escalate, Close. That’s all you need to do. In practice though its not that easy. Sure there will be an occasional slut that you hookup with and fuck in the first 30milliseconds of looking at her the right way but there are other times where a set can take a long time. Its hard to stay in a long set because you may run out of things to stay or don’t know when to escalate but the more you do it the more you figure it out if you can see where you go wrong. That’s the point of testing it. You keep doing it till you get it right. Stop looking for the answer online or for someone to tell you what you did wrong. As stated earlier there will be a point where there is no straight answer you just need to figure it out as you go.
Closing
Stop being like the rest of the drones out there and start coming into your own. Start figuring out problems for yourself. Stop looking for people to give you the answer. Start going out there and trying things for yourself no matter how hard it is just do it.

Great post. The general malaise you're referring to is the result of a fucked up school system and the overall increased influence of women on men (single moms raising sons etc.). The emphasis is on the "finished product" (final grade/GPA) and not the process of learning or understanding. It really shouldn't be all that surprising though given the influence/dominance of women in the education system at all levels. Women are ultimately going to focus on the final product, and could care less about the process or work behind the product.
That being said, the other major factor that plays into this phenomenon is the sheer amount of information that is literally bombarding anyone with internet access. As someone who grew up for the most part without the internet, its incredible to see how much information on literally anything is a few taps away on a smartphone. While access to such an unlimited source of info is an awesome thing, without the necessary skills to organize and think critically it often just results in paralysis by analysis. In a logically driven society our education system would have adapted itself to meet this new challenge, but given the state of that arena, that isn't likely to change anytime soon.

An unlimited source of info is just another version of choice paralysis, a major problem plaguing us today.
Years ago, I go to a camera store and I talk with a guy I probably know in my town and he recommends a camera of the probable limited selection he has. Now, I go online to get recommendations from complete strangers that are just strings of words and letters in usernames to me and they recommend a ton of different cameras to me. Now, I have no idea what to do and am not developing decision making skills so I keep seeking more information, leading to more paralysis.
Lieisnotreal 5y ago
We should make an app to reduce the choices for everyone ! Oh wait...

I personally believe grades and gpa are bullshit. Pass/fail with high standards and space for mastery is far better for the workforce and people than social promotion and standardized tests for shallow curriculum. I used to crush my college courses effortlessly, even the hard ones, because it's a game and you learn how to play it. Real life isn't like that at all if you do something of value. You're always crossing new thresholds and figuring things out. Being able to regurgitate facts doesn't make the world go around. Problem solving isn't always about using a formula.
DarkSyde3000 5y ago
Not to mention regurgitating a bunch of memorized minutiae onto a piece of paper doesn't mean you've mastered the coursework, like you said that's just part of the game. Most people forget the majority of it to make room for the next test until they get that fancy diploma. Unless they have already established internships or apprenticeships before graduating they're still going into the world with zero experience and completely unprepared.
SmamelessMe 5y ago
Well put. The only things I would like to add are:
There is a reason you know this at 30. Your brain abstracted general method for how to efficiently learn from available information, because you've been learning for the past decade(s). Now you are aware of how you learned.
I do not necessarily disapprove of repeating rudimentary questions on AskTRP. If TRP is intended to be for quality posts that are intended to teach you, AskTRP is more akin to a study group, where basic concepts are repeated over and over as new people come on board, giving you chance to make sure you understand the concepts. It should be the aim of AskTRP to answer questions, and point towards the relevant TRP theory, so the person asking truly understands the why they were given such answer.
Thanks for the time writing this up. It is something that may not be clear to everyone.

I am browsing by new. That's what the place is for.
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
I didnt really want to put asktrp because on blast because it is a place to learn but there has been so many of these questions with no depth and its just the need for someone to do the work for them and give them the answer. If any of the people on asktrp have read both sidebars they would not be asking these questions. All the theory you need is there. plus all the supplemental posts of examples using the theory on TRP.
So many times if these people just made their own decision keeping TRP in mind they might get the response or reaction they want or or not. Its a learning process but they are not even trying. Then 5 months later will make some TRP post about something they tried one time. It leads to shit posting on here also which has been happening alot 2018-2019 with the influx of new people.
SmamelessMe 5y ago
I agree, if people read the resources available, there would be no need to discuss anything, and we could close the AskTRP.
But people are social creatures, and the body of TRP knowledge is substantial. I suppose we are down to personal opinion, but for me there is no harm having a dedicated place where those who want to ask can ask, and those who want to answer can answer.
I don't mind field reports either. Even if they are not of great quality most of the time. They were of help to me when I first started. Showing me that my experiences were not different from the real world experience of other novices. Which is not something the succinct TRP theory presented by the more experienced posters covers above empty phrases like "ignore your ego", "fake it till you make it" and similar. Sure, they may be true, but they don't convey the experience of these posters.
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
There definitely should be a place to ask questions and get insight. Not everything is so cut and dry. For example Learning about frame is a complex topic or it was for me. But the questions coming from what seems to be alot of new young users is just the same thing I see in real life. They just want the answer. Not the understanding of how to get the answer. You can always tell when someone is asking a question to really understand something or missing the concept and the right answer will get the concept to sink in their head opposed to someone who asks a question just to get an answer, just to participate but doesn't really want to know.
Im not trying to be a dick but I i just get this sense that people are not trying hard enough or even just barley. Its all about instant gratification and the quick dopamine hit all the time. I learned alot from many field reports on this sub but those older ones had depth and things to take away from it. Now they seem to lack in substance because people are not even trying to do any of the things listed here except the one thing they think that might get them laid.

Needed this reminder after a long ass shower thinking about which turntable to buy. You gotta stop listening to the damn nerds online complaining and obsessing about everything.

Technics SL 1200, will last you a lifetime
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
I own a pair. Got them 2 summers ago from someone on CL for 700 bucks and 300 vinyls in perfect condition. What a steal.
frooschnate 5y ago
I know, but I gotta search around for used in good condition and all. Their new line is pretty pricey.
I can get a used like new Rega P3 for the price of a P2 right now. Think I might go for it
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
If you are learning how to DJ turntables are the best place to start.
frooschnate 5y ago
I’d say the same. You learn the ins and outs, like driving manual and automatic.
Either way I’m not looking to mix with this, just listening. I’ll be spinning a lot of house records with it though.

Another important factor in this is the number of young men who lack good role models. For millennia young boys have learned how to be a man by watching older men. But in today's world where the majority of men are either adult children or betas who take their lead from women, there aren't any good examples for young men to follow. Imitation is a form of learning.

In terms of solving your first complex problem, this brings me back to one night when I was in high school. I was an unfocused fuck up until 2 months prior and finally had an intellectual awakening.
One night, I came across this problem called Einstein's Riddle (I doubt Einstein created it, it's just really fucking hard and takes a lot of logic to solve it).
Anyways, I spent fucking HOURS on that shit but I felt overtaken by the challenge to want to accomplish this for I don't know why the fuck I wanted to, but I did.
After hours of grinding and almost giving up a few times, I finally solved the riddle. The pure satisfaction of accomplishing that task gave me a good taste of what it means to truly learn things and work at problems and be able to actually accomplish a task without help.
Haven't thought about that night up until now, but thanks for the post mate, it's a solid one.
MatrixofLe3adership 5y ago
There are very good suggestions in this post, but it unfortunately reeks of complaining about other people---and I see no reason for it. Nevertheless, much of it is true. I see fuckups doing this every day, so I think there is an opportunity to exploit by doing the opposite
There are many people who don't have the intelligence to accomplish certain things. They just don't. I have 2 rules:
Accept that and work to the best anyway.
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
I wont lie something set me off that made post this in the way I did. I should have flaired it rant but I thought there is more to take away from it.
True but how many people never even live up to their potential because they took the easy way out or never applied themselves being fully capable?
MatrixofLe3adership 5y ago
Also very true. I fully understand how frustrating it can be, particularly if family or coworkers are involved. The post itself is excellent, Thanks for writing. Also keep in mind that there are young people, albeit rare, who hate this shit from their peers just as much as the old-timers do.
Imperator_Red 5y ago
AskTRP is fucking cancer. I can't believe how shitty it is compared to the main forum. The questions are awful and so is the advice.
bucSlayer 5y ago
Disagree, the main sub is filled with mental masturbation. I’ve learned much more reading the ECs comments on the asktrp sub.
McVaghunter 5y ago
Most of the posts on asktrp are made by guys who have no attention whatsoever to ever work on improving their SMV, they're just looking for a "quick hack" to quickly get laid for the first time or to patch things up with the only girl who agreed to be their gf. The problem is that some of these guys not only have very low SMV but also lack basic social skills; I've seen a shitload of posts with "I have no friends" "I'm not good with conversations" "I get nervous around girls" "tomorrow is my first time ever to" etc... These guys will never start coming into their own.
TRP and askTRP are NOT places to help you get laid for the first time, no, these are places to help average guys with REAL FIELD EXPERIENCE, average sex life and normal social skills who are looking to improve their SMV and refine their Game not only to hit the 3 figure yearly n-count but also to invest less time and effort getting pussy and invest more on pursuing their own mission.
DropDeadTyrant 5y ago
That's pretty much it. I'm sure most of us wouldn't ask those really stupid ass questions if we were regularly receiving enough attention to fuck up and fail and learn. But, when you're not, even the smallest thing makes you question it all. It's the difference between a man with a blueberry plant having his crop die some years and flourish others then finally learning how to grow the perfect batch. Versus someone who can't even get one vine(or whatever blueberries grow from) to leave the soil and doesn't have anything to learn from without asking others.
TheRoad15 5y ago
I've been thinking this over recently and wanting to make my own post about it. I was going to call it "Just Getting It"
It is along the lines of what you're saying. About just getting TRP with examples of where I fuck up but how I can improve. Sort of my first post/story telling and maybe a little helpful for newer people like me.
oorobz 5y ago
Solve problem based on ur thinking even u cant solve u will learn something from it. It is pretty good post, but in the end it had it's own HOW TO DO. Like invest ur self blah blah ...
metallicdrama 5y ago
"Internet for Dummies Second Edition" lol.
NextBad 5y ago
I asked questions, got the right answers, I 'm not quite sure what your point is, it's contradictory

> figure out things on your own.
Remember kids, you can get a teacher for math, science, strength but dear god a teacher for relationships and learning game is off limits
redvelvet_oreo 5y ago
I think your missing the point of the post. It wasn't to single out people on asktrp. It was an example of how people just look for answers and do not actually try to learn the process to whatever the subject matter is and figuring out the answer on their own.
