Reading through the rest of your comments, it seems your experience and current attitude is similar to mine.
The ones I met and got to know were incredibly kind and hospitable, and *clean*. They'd be just as horrified at the street-shitting as we are.

I didn't hate anyone at my high school (at least not that I recall in my pre-coffee haze), but I wasn't exactly close with any of them, either, even on the wrestling team.
